The Best Yum Cha Spots in Perth That Are Affordable and Authentic!

Yum cha has stood the test of centuries, and it’s easy to see why. With steaming dumplings, hot tea, and a spread of mouthwatering sides, it’s no wonder this dining tradition could fill banquet halls and bellies.

It’s the flavours, from the savoury meat fillings to the velvety custard, that keep yum cha joints bustling and running. Just ask us Perthites.

The local restos we included here dish out authentic, affordable, and downright festive yum cha.

Most yum cha joints are chock-a-block with queues, but Yum Cha House keeps it flowing with attentive staff and a clever trolley system.

Last time, we wolfed down their soup dumplings—salty and pillow-soft meat coated in a gelatinous broth. A jasmine tea balanced it out, while the prawn dumplings and crispy radish with bacon made the $32 meal feel like a steal.

Tip: You can bring your own drinks here. Just prepare for a corkage fee.

BamBamBoo

From bambamboofood

Address: 25/140 William St
Contact Details: +61 402 982 569
Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 11:30 am to 7:45 pm
  • Fri – 11:30 am to 8:30 pm

BamBamBoo smoothens operations with its flash iPad ordering system and reliable trolleys. The highlight, though, is the dumplings—particularly the steamed chicken ones boasting sweet and tender meat.

The har gow dumplings are spot on too. Each bite has that delicate shrimp sweetness wrapped in mild aromatics and a trace of chilli sauce. But if you’re craving a full-bodied order, the xiao long bao’s smoky filling and thicker buns will leave you feeling full.

Tip: No reservations here, so be an early bird to get the best seats.

Emma’s Seafood and Dim Sum Restaurant

From krumark

Address: 886 Albany Hwy, East Victoria Park

  • Sat to Sun – 11 am to 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Facebook

We were absolutely spoiled with a spread of classic yum cha favourites at Emma’s. The prawns were juicy in delicate wraps, the pork spiced just right in a soft dough, and the veggie dumplings? Clean, fresh, and absolutely herby!

Their chicken feet deserve special mention. Drenched in a rich soy and garlic sauce, each piece is full of umami notes that connect with the dumplings’ same flavours and the tea’s lighter notes.

Tip: Anyone rolling with more than five mates should give them a bell to lock in a booking, particularly if you’re visiting for dinner.

  • Sun – 10 am to 3 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm

Facebook

It’s always a good sign when The Wang’s Treasure House is ever-busy. But don’t just take our word for it. Try the king prawn dumplings, and let the umami-filled flavours win you over.

Spring rolls with sweet pork fillings are part of the experience too, adding a crispier side to the feast. And to finish, you have durian mochi, which is creamy, elastic, and a bit pungent treat for dessert lovers.

Tip: Queues here can get long. If that’s bad news, swing by on a Monday.

On The Point Chinese Restaurant

Contact Details: +61 8 9325 5555
Operating Hours: Daily – 10:30 am to 3 pm, 5:30 pm to 10 pm
Facebook

Perched above Swan River, On The Point offers both classic Perth scenery and authentic Chinese eats. It’s also an upmarket haunt with features regular yum cha joints don’t have, like an indoor cocktail bar and luxe alfresco area.

As for food, Chaozhou-style pork dumplings hit all the right notes, balancing nutty, savoury, and sweet perfectly. The resto also serves braised chicken feet and earthy mushroom dim sum, which pair deliciously with their durian bao’s custardy filling.

Tip: No dramas with parking here. There’s a lot of parking space, and the first hour is on the house.

Pinn’s Palace

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 10 am to 2:30 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 10 am to 3 pm, 5 pm to 9:30 pm

Facebook

Pinn’s Palace recipe for yum cha success is combining a no-fuss setup with a large menu of Malaysian-Chinese bites. Seriously, we had it all here, from succulent prawn dumplings to golden egg tarts leaning on a buttery profile.

The fried squid tentacles didn’t miss too—crunchy, golden, and popping with strong peppery notes that give the green tea a purpose.

The only issue is there are no trolleys; we had to tough it out in line.

Tip: Yum cha times change here. Call the number above for the latest updates.

Northbridge Chinese Restaurant pulls in patrons and soon-to-be regulars with its old-world, airy setup. What makes them stay, though, are the yum cha favourites, like those pan-fried pork and steamed prawn dumplings.

The tea options, jasmine and chrysanthemum, are equally popular, with their floral taste freshening things up. In terms of dessert, the pineapple custard tarts are a staple, offering a sweet and zesty contrast cutting through the dim sum’s savoury palette.

Tip: If you’re after deals and discounts, time your visit around Lunar New Year.

Fortune Five Chinese Restaurant

From sgfoodonfoot

Address: 108A James St, Northbridge

Website

A golden rule? Don’t hit up Fortune Five if you’re counting calories. This Cantonese-focused joint has over 50 yum cha options—steamed dim sum, porridge, chicken feet, custardy buns, and more.

But as expected, staples are what people line up for, with steamed pork and prawn as the go-to. They’re quite heartier than what other entries provide, but you can still generally expect savoury and sweet notes.

Tip: Check their website, as they post discounted meals there.

Website

Silks is a far cry from your average yum cha joint. It’s set in a swish casino locale and whips up fresh takes on traditional dishes, mainly by using Western Australian produce.

If you want to go all out, don’t miss the prawn black gold dumplings—jazzed in edible gold leaf and a slick of olive oil. But for those sticking to the classics, beef siu mai won’t do you wrong with its grass-fed beef that’s sweet, savoury, and silky.

Tip: Get to know their dress standards, especially if you’re booking a private dining experience.

Website

Every time we rock up at Canton Lane, we’re clocking in a 20- to 30-minute wait. But once those trolleys roll over, it’s all worth it. The simple pork and prawn dumplings are bang-on with their umami goodness!

The sides here aren’t just an afterthought either; they’re as tempting! Take their spicy chicken feet or the vanilla-tinged egg tarts.

Tip: Since Cantone Lane is one of this list’s busiest spots, consider ordering via Uber Eats if you don’t like dealing with long lines.

It’s no shocker that pork and prawns sell the fastest though, whether steamed or deep-fried. The Shanghainese pork buns and beef rice rolls come in strong too, packing more robust meat fillings.

Website

Sweetwater Rooftop Bar ditched the trolley system for an 8-set course yum cha feast—and it’s a game-changer. But don’t stress; this panoramic spot still has the must-haves, from prawn dumplings to pork buns.

Among that selection are the pork potsticker dumplings, rich in umami with just the right dash of ginger and soy sauce. It’s often eaten alongside tender char siu pork shoulder and finished with either soft lotus buns or durian mochi.

When the crew is in the mood for a big feast, Pearl River Restaurant is always on the list. The roomy interior has that perfect banquet feel, and their extensive yum cha menu—with all the Hong Kong and Cantonese classics—always slaps.

When we last swung by, we had the pork siu mai and sticky rice in lotus leaf. On the second round, we mixed it up, starting with smoky BBQ buns and veggie spring rolls, before ending on a sweet note with chewy durian mochi.

Tip: The yum cha schedule here is consistent; arrive between 11 am and 2:30 pm.

Website

One look at the sprawling and fish tank-filled Aquarium Seafood Chinese Restaurant and you know they’re serious about yum cha. Our last meal here confirmed it.

Along with their pocket-friendly prawn and pork dumplings, the spicy pepper squid and mildly beefy honeycomb tripe we ate were top quality. And those Chinese doughnuts were absolute winners too—puffy and coated with just the right amount of glaze and dusting!

Tip: You can visit at night, but the dim sum selection will be limited. Calling ahead is the quickest way to find out what’s available.
