Let’s start with Market Grounds, a fantastic beer garden I often visit after watching a Wildcats game at the RAC Arena. They’re hard to miss as they feature parasols, picnic tables, and fences, all covered in bright blue.
With 18 taps, featuring brews like Gage Roads and Heineken, there’s something for everyone. And let’s not forget their sophisticated cocktails, like an Aperol spritz with peach bitters and pink grapefruit.
They also have a rich selection of foods that you can enjoy for lunch and dinner. Honestly, I can’t get enough of their buttermilk fried chicken. The smoky flavour paired with a pint of pale ale is absolutely perfect!

Should you ever find yourself in Northbridge and are in need of a refreshing pint of beer, look no further than Picabar. It operates within the old Perth Boys School building and is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike.
One thing this place definitely gets right is the atmosphere. It has a massive courtyard shaded by a Morton Bay fig tree, which makes my visits here a lot cooler during the summer months.
And their drinks are equally impressive! You’ll find a great selection of craft beers, including local gems like Gage Roads Single Fin. Wine lovers will appreciate their extensive list, and if you’re into cocktails, their Espresso Martini is a must-try.
Pro tip: Since this place is inside the Perth Cultural Centre, you might as well make the most out of your visit by checking out some cool attractions here. Whenever I visit here, I can always feel the lively and welcoming vibe. Whether I’m relaxing in the lush Garden Bar or sipping a drink under the grapevines in the Mends St Bar, the atmosphere is always perfect.
And with their on-site microbrewery, Ogden’s Brewery, you’re guaranteed to always get the freshest beers. I definitely recommend you get the Ogden’s Pale Ale as your first order, as it has a well-balanced flavour with hints of mango and citrus mixed in.
Pro tip: Every day at this spot is pretty great, but Saturdays are something special. That’s when they host Storm the Windsor, an event that takes the night up a notch with top DJs from Perth spinning the best tracks.

Personally, I prefer visiting this place around sunset. The unobstructed view of the Swan River as the sun sets over the horizon is extraordinary.

The Bird in Northbridge is a must-visit if you’re into music and beers like I am. Since it opened in 2010, it quickly became a cultural hotspot, showcasing some of Perth’s finest musical talents.
The outdoor courtyard is fantastic, with its exposed brick walls and warm incandescent lighting, creating a cosy, jam-room vibe. It’s my favourite place to relax with a drink while soaking in the live music.
Their drink selection is also impressive, with a diverse mix of ales, ciders, and draught beers. Pair your drink with one of their delicious meals, like quesadillas and burgers, and you’re in for a treat.

Another historic place where you can enjoy some amazing beers while jamming to some live music is the Rosemount Hotel. The hotel underwent an art-deco renovation in 1937 and was heritage-listed in 2007, which adds to its allure.
While I don’t visit this place too often, I know how popular its music venue is as it has hosted acts like Tame Impala and Hiatus Kaiyote. It also has a very spacious beer garden, ensuring the atmosphere here is always lively without ever getting too loud.
It’s also no secret that their drink menu is fantastic, offering craft beers, unique cocktails, and a wide range of wines. A special shoutout to their Virgin Mojito mocktail. Its mint and lime combo is super refreshing!

Another highly popular beer garden you’ll find in Northbridge is The Standard. Situated in a converted warehouse, it offers a light and breezy atmosphere that feels both cool and fun.
They have this fantastic outdoor area that features a lush garden and a picturesque rooftop bar set atop a shipping container. I’m particularly a huge fan of their rooftop bar because it has provided me with several Instagram-worthy shots!
For drinks, they really hit it out of the park with their cocktails like the Peach Perfect and Garden State—absolutely delicious! And for those who prefer something lighter, their Hiatus Pacific Ale is just perfect with only 0.5% alcohol content.
Pro tip: The best day to enjoy some relaxing drinks here is on Wednesdays. That’s when they host the Two for One Pasta promotion, which starts at 4 PM.
The Royal on the Waterfront

For an evening of drinks with an amazing waterfront view, there’s The Royal on the Waterfront. This iconic pub offers a stunning outdoor terrace that overlooks Claisebrook Cove, making it perfect for a relaxed drink or meal with friends.
And if the riverside view isn’t enough for you, they also have nine TV screens where you can watch the latest sports games. Whether it be a local Australian rules football game in Optus Stadium or a soccer match in Europe, they got it all here!
It’s also a good thing that they boast a wide selection of craft beers, wines, and cocktails. Whenever we hang out here, my friends and I usually order their Colonial beers, which are made from their own brewery in the Margaret River region.
