The 15 best bao buns in Perth are why we crave these sweet & savoury bites 24/7!

Diet plans? Forget it! Hand us another bao bun, and we’re good to go. Soft as a pillow and filled with soy-glazed pork or sweet red bean paste, these bites are hard to pass up.

What’s even better is that Perth has bonza bao bun joints lining up its streets! This guide narrows it down to the crème de la crème, so you can forget about biting into any dry and flavourless baos.

Juicy Bao Bao has a low-key atmosphere that feels like dining at your mum’s place. But we’ll be real, steamed BBQ pork bao is the reason why we go here. It’s hands-down one of Perth’s best, with its smoky-sweet character enhanced by cloud-like buns.

Tip: The best time to rock up is after 7 pm when it’s all chill and the crowds have buggered off.

HQ Bar + Kitchen’s stunning views had us wondering if HQ stands for ‘hot quality.’ With its Asian fusion menu and next-level baos, it definitely fits.

Their braised pork bao had our toughest critics eating like kids. The filling was caramelised just right, with a subtle kick of nuts and chilli!

Tip: Even though it’s half a bar, you can still bring the little ones. Highchairs are available.

We gave Little Bao a whirl last month, and honestly, it didn’t disappoint. We loved their pork belly bao. The crackling, salty meat was the main palate-pleaser, but a nice punch of red onions, tomatoes, and delicately sweet glaze deepened its complexity.

The creative spin What the Bao puts on Asian flavours has us hooked, especially their Hong Kong roast duck bao. We tried it a while back, and the tangy-sweet hoisin sauce did wonders with the already crispy and complex meat!

Our team had an afternoon for the books at Miss Chow, a joint for baos and cocktails galore. Sunlight streamed through the modern resto’s big windows, and Swan River views sprinkled that extra touch of Perth magic.

We went for the spicy pork bao buns, and they were spicy without burning mouths, with a trace of sweetness within the bold meat!

Little Bangkok’s servers made it clear their goal is to bring the depth of Thailand’s flavours to Perth. After the meal, all we could say was ‘Mission accomplished!’

All the bao buns here bring a lip-smacking balance of sour, sweet, and salty flavours, from the chicken to vegetarian ones. However, the soft-shell crab remains the tastiest version for us. Its oceanic sweetness and zesty, crispy greens are top-tier!
