Where to Find the Best Counselling Services In Perth

How We Picked The Best Places for Counselling Services in Perth

Accreditation

There are a lot of illegitimate resources out there. This is why made sure that each clinic mentioned below has the proper licenses and accreditation to conduct its services.

Environment

When looking at counselling services in Perth, we also took the environment they provide into account. We made sure each space is relaxing, welcoming, and conducive to healthy counselling.

Conduct

Not only did we check to see if the counsellors we saw maintained a pleasant demeanour, but we also made sure they used legitimate practices that are ethical and legal. We also made sure any administrative staff had professional conduct throughout.

Pros

  • Very cozy and relaxing environment
  • Well-rounded and caring approach

Cons

  • Sometimes responds a bit slower to online enquiries compared to calls
  • Closed on Sundays

Energetics Institute is one of our top picks because of their welcoming space and well-rounded approach. It’s a family-run operation with Richard and Helena at the helm.

They are specialists with lots of experience in psychotherapy. They really advocate for incorporating body psychotherapy into their approach, and we can attest to its merits.

We appreciate how they don’t prioritize one over the other when it comes to body and mind. We found their approach to be a good balance of both things.

They are very empathetic and respectful, and we never felt that they were unprepared. We can recommend their help even when you feel like you’re in a particularly dark spot.

The clinic has an online form on its website that you can use to book a session. If you’re not sure what service is right for you, you can always call them to ask.

They are very accommodating with questions, so you should be able to get the clarification you need. If contacting them via their online form, do note that they don’t always answer on the same day.

We find that, though they try to be as responsive as they can, there is occasionally a wait of a couple of days. If you really want details and a booking fast, we recommend calling them.

The space itself is very cozy and doesn’t feel overly medical. We found it very comforting and easier to feel at ease in their presence.

There’s also ample parking outside, so we definitely like the overall environment. Richard and Helena offer lots of options, so you’re not really forced to pick an approach that doesn’t work for you.

We like their group sessions, in particular. It’s a good way to get some enlightening guidance without having to do a one-on-one session.

This can be helpful if you’re not comfortable going into a solo session right away. On the other hand, you can also stick to one-on-ones if you don’t want to be with a group.

They managed to create a supportive and safe space while still encouraging you to take active steps toward self-improvement. We appreciate how this really helps in terms of healing and combating any problems.

Pros

  • Open all week
  • Very easy and smooth booking process

Cons

  • Not affiliated with any private funds
  • Exterior areas could use renovations

Vision Counselling and Psychology actually has multiple locations in Perth, but we recommend their Scarborough branch as it has the most consistently positive track record.

They have both psychologists and counsellors in their team to find the right fit for your needs. We feel this is an important distinction that can be very helpful if you’re not sure what kind of help could most benefit your situation.

One thing we really appreciate is their commitment to providing accessibility and inclusion. This can go a long way for more marginalized demographics that still need counselling services in Perth.

The counsellors here are very communicative and understanding. They will listen to your concerns and help you to move forward.

The great thing about their approach for us is how they tackle negative behaviours and feelings without making you feel judged. They come off as very professional and caring at the same time.

We do feel that the Stirling Leisure Centre could do with some updated interiors, as you can kind of feel that the place has seen better days. That said, Vision’s actual space is very well-kept and maintained.

Booking is a pretty smooth process, and you can call, send an email, or use their website booking page. Make sure you specify the branch that you prefer as they all share the same contact lines.

On their website, you can pick your counsellor of choice.

Pros

  • Very proficient with CBT
  • Passionate with finding the best solution or approach

Cons

  • Limited staff size
  • Offers limited after-hours service

This counselling office is run by psychotherapist and counsellor William Macaulay. He actually has a branch in Como that is just as good, but what gives the Wembley office its edge for us is the location.

What we like about the Wembley space is how inviting and warm it looks. It also doesn’t feel too claustrophobic.

William is very personable and you can feel how passionate he is about his work. We find that he is at his best when conducting cognitive behavioural therapy, though he is also skilled in other areas of counselling.

The biggest reason we vouch for his style is that he can bring you enough guidance in one session but is actually worth visiting more than once. It feels like he genuinely wants to help you succeed, and his approach and words back them up.

It’s not hard to open up to him, and he knows when it’s time to consider other forms of therapy. We also appreciate his insights on self-improvement, acceptance and growth.

Finally, one highlight of his counselling services is his approach to LGBT concerns. A lot of societal and religious conflicts may affect this community, and he is passionate about helping individuals love themselves and overcome the anxiety that may come with gender identity.

Overall, it’s a reliable space to reach out to if you’re in need of counselling services in Perth.

Pros

  • Lots of after-hours options
  • Open all week

Cons

  • Building is spacious but intimidating
  • Booking and payment confirmations take a day to process

To kick things off on why we recommend them, all of the staff at Lion Counselling and Psychology are really friendly and helpful. This can really do a lot for your comfort right off the bat.

We find dealing with them very easy from start to finish. Even when you call for an enquiry, you can rely on helpful answers and warm responses.

Another thing we appreciate is the variety of their after-hours options. You can choose from online and in-person counselling depending on their availability.

While they do have busier times, we find that there’s never a wait time too long and you still get the full session you need.

They’re also open all week, so it’s easy to find a schedule that suits you. In our experience, both calls and online enquiries are met with pretty swift responses.

The building where you can find their practice can be pretty daunting at a glance. That said, the space itself feels welcoming and there’s the added boon of having ample parking space.

While they also offer CBT, it’s worth noting that they also offer counselling by way of clinical hypnotherapy, schema therapy, ACT, MBCT, and EMDR, among others. If you have your doubts, you can always voice out your concerns as the staff is quite accommodating.

We never felt like they were forcing one particular counselling method, so we think that’s an ethical plus for this clinic.

Pros

  • Very mindful of beliefs and personal issues
  • Well-versed in career-related issues and advice

Cons

  • Faith-based approach may not be for everyone
  • Doesn’t always respond promptly to calls or online enquiries

Connections Counselling Perth is another with multiple branches. That said, the most arguably popular space is their South Perth one.

They generally have good services all around, but we really want to highlight their pause retreats and counselling for post-natal depression and PTSD.

We find their counsellors very adept at dealing with such heavy issues without any airs of judgement or pushiness. Everything seems to come from a place of understanding and knowledge.

We should note, though, that they are heavily Christianity-based. Much of their messaging revolves around that.

While it never really comes off as preachy, we do feel that it’s worth mentioning in case individuals are seeking out less faith-based approaches.

Of course, this practice still bases its approach to counselling on research and regard for mental health. So, you don’t have to worry about empty platitudes as they will truly provide knowledge-based guidance that is simply centred around faith.

We personally find that the Pause Retreats are what resonate the most among their offerings because of their focus on women reconnecting with themselves and taking time for their own well-being.

The space itself is also clean, peaceful, and functional. Overall, we think it’s good to reach out here if you’re feeling some turmoil or seeking out reliable counselling services in Perth.
