Pros
- Great view
- Good ambience
- Opens until late at night
Cons
- Service can be slow
- Not good for solo diners
Bathers Beach House prides itself as Perth’s only “absolute beachfront restaurant,” and it’s true. All corners of the restaurant open up to a beautiful view of City Beach, with beach chairs ready should you want to lounge after your meal.
They serve modern Australian fare, and we strongly recommend their seafood options and their grazing board. We came with a small group of friends, and it was a good deal, especially given their serving sizes and prices.
Unfortunately, we don’t recommend them if you’re a solo diner unless you’re looking to splurge. The mains average at around $30, and the quality can still be a hit or miss, as we overheard diners by our table complain about their dish.
It’s a great spot for bevvies, especially for beer enthusiasts. We were able to choose from multiple local beers, and they had some select beers on tap.
However, service can be inconsistent, especially during peak hours. When we came by for drinks on a Friday night, it took almost twenty minutes for our drinks to get served.
We also won’t recommend them if you have special dietary restrictions. One person in our party asked if they could make accommodations for their nut allergy, but the restaurant wasn’t able to do so.
But if you prioritise a beautiful view over the dining experience, you’ll definitely enjoy it here.

Pros
- Quick service
- Good variety in the menu
- Good value for money
Cons
- Beverages not as good as food
- Inconsistent quality of food
At just 15 minutes away from the Perth CBD, Odyssea is a must-go if you’re seeking a quick escape from city life. It offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, with a seasonal menu that’s sourced from local suppliers.
Their modern Australian menu fuses local ingredients with spices from other cuisines. One dish we didn’t expect to like was their roasted cauliflower mixed with gochujang and kewpie.
It’s certainly a strange mix, and it might be a tad too experimental for those unfamiliar with the sweet and savoury taste of gochujang. However, we do think it’s worth a try to experience how these two ingredients complement each other.
During our second visit, however, the food served wasn’t of the same quality. The lamb lacked a bit of flavour and was a bit fatty for our liking.
We also tried some of their beverages this time around, and while their drinks menu seemed promising, we ended up finding them a bit lacklustre. I chose one of their prosecco-infused drinks, and it wasn’t as refreshing as I expected it would be.
One consistent quality across our two visits, however, was the quality of service. The staff was always attentive and orders were served in a timely manner.
We were also impressed by how responsible they were when it came to serving alcohol. We witnessed the bartender refuse to serve a guest alcohol who was already strongly intoxicated.
We appreciate gestures like these, as it shows us that they care for the welfare of their diners.

Pros
- Fun atmosphere
- Good party spot
- Affordable food
Cons
- Beachside view not as great
- Not good for a sit-down meal
Not every beach restaurant has to be laidback. El Grotto is our go-to spot if we’re looking for a party, and for good reason.
They’re the only taqueria we visited on the list, and they don’t disappoint. They serve classic crowd favourites like tacos, burritos, and shareable dishes like nachos with guac.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a taqueria without tequila or cerveza—and they’ve got plenty.
It may not be much for the culinary experience, but we do like having food options after having a few drinks. They’re also relatively cheap as well, with most menu items priced below $20.
El Grotto doesn’t directly open to the beach, unlike other restaurants we recommend here. The view is blocked by large plants and trees, and while this isn’t a problem for us, it may not be suitable for those looking for a clear beachfront view.
That aside, we like how the restaurant’s ambience changes depending on the time you come in. Weekends and disco nights are livelier—and noisy—that’s fit for a night of fun.
But if you come in for a weekday lunch, it can be quite relaxing. Not many come during these hours, and you can enjoy your meal on their outside terrace.
However, we don’t recommend El Grotto if you’re looking for a hearty, sit-down meal. This is because they’ve only got a few food items on their menu, which may not be satiating for some.
4. The Sandbar

Pros
- Laidback ambience
- Has live music
- Good view
Cons
- Some complaints of discrimination
- A bit expensive
- May not always accommodate dietary restrictions
The Sandbar is a laidback restaurant located on Scarborough Beach. They’re a great choice if you’re looking for a restaurant that regularly has events throughout the week.
They have quiz nights every Tuesday at 7 PM, scheduled comedy nights, and kids’ fun nights on weekdays from 4 to 6 PM. On top of that, they also have live music playing almost daily with different local artists.
We came when they had a live band playing, and we enjoyed the fun yet relaxing atmosphere of the place.
The food served is your typical bistro food, and certainly nothing too fancy. We went for prawn salad, tacos, and pizza, which were all prepared well and something we enjoyed.
They have an extensive drinks menu, with multiple options for your liquor of choice. They’ve got a decent wine selection, but it’s the cocktails and spirits where they really shine.
We also came back to enjoy their dedicated breakfast menu. I went for the avo toast, and while their menu states that they have a gluten-free option for this, I was told that it was currently unavailable.
It is a little pricey, but the quality of food served has been consistent, which we think is well worth the price.
What we’re disappointed with, however, were reports of discrimination toward some potential diners. We interviewed people who stated that they were refused entry because of their visible tattoos, which obviously angered them.
5. Il Lido Italian Canteen
Cuisine: Italian
Cost: $$$
Website: https://www.illido.com.au/
Address: 88 Marine Parade, Cottesloe WA 6011

Pros
- Unique interior
- Generous servings
- Good beach view
- Extensive wine list
Cons
- Seafood not always fresh
- High corkage fees
- Inconsistent quality of food
If you’re on Cottesloe Beach, we highly recommend Il Lido Italian Canteen. It doesn’t have your typical beach restaurant interior or ambience, but we love the uniqueness of its Art Deco style.
While other restaurants on this list serve pizza and pizza, Il Lido is our pick for authentic Italian-style dishes. Their dishes are a bit on the pricey side, but they have generous servings, especially for the pasta.
They have weekly Oyster Sundays, which we were able to participate in. Unfortunately, the oysters weren’t as fresh as we would have liked and weren’t worth the price we paid for.
They have an extensive wine list, and our server was able to recommend us the perfect bottle for our meal.
Because of their unique interior, we made sure to try dining both indoors and outdoors. You can’t go wrong with either.
Their outside terrace has a beautiful view of Cottesloe Beach and is especially great for sunsets. Dining indoors, however, offers a sharp contrast to the bright beach outdoors, which is unlike any other beach restaurant we’ve tried.
If you’re planning to dine here for a birthday or special event, it’s best to be aware of their corkage fees. This is because we heard one diner complain about being charged an extra $3.50 per head.
