10 Things to Do When You’re in Perth
Perth is often known as the most isolated city in the world. Despite this distinction, people from all over the world come to visit this stunning West Australian city for its magnificent attractions and entertainment options.
How can I have fun in Perth?
You don’t have to spend much to have fun in Perth. Here are some of the city’s affordable attractions and activities:

Go to Perth’s gorgeous beaches
Perth is home to numerous beaches blessed with pristine white sands and crystal clear waters. You have several beaches to choose from, and, in no particular order, these are:
- Cottlesloe Beach. This is just 20 minutes away from Perth on public transport and definitely one of the most iconic beaches in the area.
- Mullaloo Beach. The waves are safe enough for families and new swimmers to enjoy. Kids will enjoy the playground, while adults can prepare barbecued meals for picnics.
- Scarborough Beach. Call it “Scabs,” and you’ll blend right in like a local. Check out the large play area ideal for young families, the skate bowl, and the beach pool.
- City Beach. The strong waves make this gorgeous location a gathering hub for surf enthusiasts. You can check out the open-air cafes and the chic restaurants for some bites after your swim.
Just make sure to follow dermatologists’ advice and put on some sunblock!
Walk around Kings Park
A visit to Perth isn’t complete without a stroll through Kings Park. Visit the West Australian Botanic Garden if you love to be surrounded by nature mixed with scientific research and conservation efforts.
Remember to be kind to your feet though. If you feel as if you’ve walked too much, a visit to the nearest podiatrist might be needed.
Look through the Fremantle Markets
Here, fresh and local produce is available along with fashionable clothing, handcrafted souvenirs, and piping-hot delicious meals. Fremantle Markets is renowned as the best weekend market in all of Australia.
Don’t eat too much though so you can leave some room for dinner. But in case your stomach feels a little upset, you might want to visit the nearest gastroenterologist.
Cruise along the Swan River
Take a leisurely day out to view the scenic sights of the Bell Tower, the Swan Brewery, and the magnificent skylines of Perth and the Fremantle port. The best time is when the sun is out and the breeze is cool enough for your city adventure.
Careful with your eyes though, and avoid the glare of the sun. It won’t hurt to visit the nearest eye clinic and get an assessment of your eye health.
Visit Scitech
Even if you’re no longer a kid, Scitech is an amazing place to learn all about science, engineering, and mathematics in fun and interactive ways. Found in West Perth, Scitech houses a museum and a planetarium as well.
Entrance fees start at $12 for children 4 to 17 years old. Be sure to visit the planetarium to watch the “Birth of Planet Earth.”
Ride the Perth cycle trails
Looking to have fun and keep fit while staying on a budget? Bring your bike to the cycling trail that shows off local flora and fauna while providing interesting bits of native history.
Ride safely to keep yourself from getting injuries. If you feel any pain, visit the nearest specialist immediately.
View art galleries
Are you into contemporary art, creative crafts, and aboriginal art pieces? Perth houses a lot of amazing art galleries that showcase the inherent creativity of Perth artists and indigenous tribal works of art.
Check out the Art Gallery of WA in Perth and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in Northbridge.
Walk around the New Elizabeth Quay
Surrounded by bars, restaurants, and street art, the New Elizabeth Quay is Perth’s newest landmark coastal development undertaking. The Perth Zoo, Yagan Square, and the state library are all within walking distance.
Surf!
Even though Perth isn’t home to pro surfers, you can still get the best waves at Scarborough Beach, Margaret River, or head over to Rottnest Island.
You can always check with a chiropractor in case your body gets a little banged up after surfing the sea.
Enjoy the small bars
Found in the urban areas of Fremantle, Victoria Park, Northbridge, and the CBD, Perth’s small bars are perfect to unwind from a day of exploring. These bars offer cocktails, beers, wines, cheese, finger foods, and even Mexican favorites.
Our favorite bars are Whisper Wine Bar in Fremantle for their wine, and The Palace Arcade – Victoria Park for their pizzas, chicken wings, and arcade games.
