9 Amazing Things to Do in Rockingham

Rockingham is more than just amazing stretches of white-sand beaches, sparkling clear blue waters, and rich marine ecosystems. But it’s not just the abundant natural beauty that makes the place so popular.

You’ll find amazing food stops, cafes, and wineries to explore in this scenic spot just 45 minutes from Perth’s southside. So sit back and plan out your Rockingham adventure!

Let’s start with the food to get us going.

Rockingham Restaurants and Cafes

We believe that fantastic days should always start with amazing eats. We’ve gathered Rockingham’s latest food offerings as well as their classic haunts to help you decide.

1. Ostro Eatery

The casual environment of the Orso Eatery fits right in with its modern influence. We suggest getting the artisan sodas and fresh cold-pressed juices to go with your freshly cooked meals.

If you like your shot of caffeine, try their Seven Sins coffee to wake up your mornings. Their daily specials are considered some of the most interesting blends of flavors and textures.

Too much food can upset your stomach though. You might want to visit a gastroenterologist beforehand to get advice on keeping your gut health strong.

Orso Eatery opens from 7 am to 3 pm all throughout the week. Just simply look for their spot at 11A Rockingham Beach Road.

2. Rustico

The decor is distinctly influenced by Spain’s beautifully rustic life. Intimate yet brimming with an undercurrent of energy, Rustico romances you with its diverse selection of food.

From the fried goat cheese smothered in orange blossom honey to the scrumptiously crispy pork belly, you’ll love munching the day away here. You can even ask the in-house chef for a six-course degustation meal perfectly complemented with wines.

Too much wine can cause your teeth to yellow though. Visit a dentist if you think you need to refresh your dazzling white smile.

Rustico is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm to 10 pm. They open earlier on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 pm to 12 am.

The charming restaurant can be found at 61 Rockingham Beach Road.

3. Kent St Deli

Kent St Deli

Locals love this deli, and it’s pretty obvious why. They use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that are perfect for their all-day breakfast menus like specialty burgers and gourmet sandwiches.

Enjoy them on the spot or bring them with you for picnics, and you’ll never go wrong. They’re open all throughout the week from 7 am to 4 am.

They can be found at 3/1 Kent Street, Rockingham WA 6168.

4. Peel Estate Winery

If your palate is still looking for more wines, then visit this idyllic estate. Here you can view the vineyards and learn how grape juice is processed to produce wine.

Will Narin, the owner of Peel Estate Winery, sometimes takes visitors through the history of each vintage wine. You can also enjoy the summer months with live music in the background.

Look for them at 290 Fletcher Road where they open from 10 am to 5 pm.

What to Do in Rockingham

After a hearty meal, you can enjoy more activities. From forests to shores, here are some of our favorite spots to do fun things in reliable Rockingham.

5. Paddleboard in Rockingham Beach

The beach is your perfect destination if you’re after the sea, sand, and sun. In case you need to advise on protecting your skin, visit a dermatologist before heading there.

You’ll know you’re at Rockingham once you get there. Locals will always be glad to give you directions in case you get lost.

The water is perfect for paddle boarding since the water will still be knee-deep after some distance from the shore. Stay safe while having fun!

6. Shoalwater Islands Marine Park

Shoalwater Islands Marine Park

This group of islands houses several animals, with one of them being the Australian fairy penguin. These small birds live on the largest island, aptly named Penguin Island.

Pack some food and drinks with you when you go there, but don’t leave any rubbish behind. You can view their nesting habits while enjoying the spectacular views.

If penguins aren’t enough, you can view the pelicans and the rare sea lions that appear from time to time. Visit the Penguin Discovery Centre to watch orphaned baby penguins up close and personal.

Remember to check their operating days, as the islands close for the winter. In case you plan to catch the ferry, the fee is $14 per person.

7. Explore Point Peron on foot

Explore the abundant marine ecosystems in Point Peron after you walk around the limestone reef caves. The place can be slippery though, so take care of your feet unless you want a visit to the podiatrist.

You can opt to enjoy the coastal views from the stunning bays within the area. If you’re bringing food, remember to respect the environment and don’t leave any rubbish behind.

We suggest day trips for hikes. If you’re looking to stay overnight near Point Peron, we suggest checking the accommodations nearby.

8. Hike the trails at Lake Cooloongup

Hike the trails at Lake Cooloongup

You can find this naturally-saline lake within the Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. Once part of the ocean, the lake is now dependent on rainwater that flows from the higher grounds.

The area around the lake has interesting trails to walk around. Alone or with friends, the woodland trails are highly recommended.

As with other nature trails, entry is free.

9. Discover history at Rockingham Museum

While the amazing art deco building is a work of art in itself, the Rockingham Museum offers an insight into the history of the area. Visitors are often awed to discover the large collection of local newspapers and old maps.

But in case your vision is a little blurry, get your eyes checked first at an eye clinic before scrutinizing these fascinating displays.

Look for the museum at the corner of Flinders Lane and Kent Street. The entry fee is $2.50 for adults and 50 cents for children under 12 years old.
