Pros
- Offers trial classes
- Has payment plans
- Competent instructors
- Good approach
Cons
- Limited availability
- Only has weekly programs
Perth Singing Academy may only be open once a week, but plenty of aspiring singers we’ve spoken to swear by their lessons.
They offer classes for students from age six and above, and there’s no age limit on the age of the adult students they take in. They also have performance options in shows or concerts for those who want to take singing more seriously.
Anthea Allen, teaches most of the classes in the academy, and she’s received mostly glowing reviews from the students we spoke to.
We decided to see for ourselves by participating in the free trial lesson. Anthea was able to adjust her approach and align her teaching style with our personal goals for the class.
Parents who enrolled their shy children in Perth Singing Academy also noted how Anthea was able to bring their children out of their shells.
You don’t need to have aspirations to make it big or become a professional singer to enrol here. They welcome students with all kinds of goals, whether it’s to sing better, be more confident, or want more stability in their voices.
Students can choose the songs they want to sing as well.
While you may not get your desired outcome immediately, you can train for it in your weekly lessons with your teacher.
This leads us to our main gripe with Perth Singing Academy, which is that they only offer weekly lessons. Weekly sessions may be enough for some, but others can benefit from more sessions.

Pros
- Good variety of classes and workshops
- Can teach students how to play instruments
- Chance to interact with other students
Cons
- Mostly catering to children
- Mostly focuses on rock
School of Rock Perth doesn’t just focus on training singers but also musicians. Other than singing lessons, they also offer classes for students to learn different instruments.
They have a good range of regular classes. These include Rock 101 classes for kids ages 8 to 13, performance classes, songwriting classes, online classes, and adult programs.
Outside of these, they also hold regular camps and workshops, although these mostly cater to children. These camps are often for Rock 101 or a rookie class for younger learners aged 6 to 7.
That said, they do mostly have young students, and most of the feedback we received were from parents.
Parents appreciated School of Rock’s holistic program in building skills for their children while also encouraging a love for music. And because the school has multiple classes available, it’s easy to find one that will suit your child.
As their name suggests, they do focus on the rock genre. However, we do think they’re a good option if you’re looking to build your child’s basic skills and overall musicality.
What we like best, however, is the opportunity for students to interact with each other in lessons. This allows children to share their love of music with others and also interact with others in a band setting.

Pros
- Also has piano lessons
- Can teach children as young as six months
- Has multiple instructors available
- Offers a trial class
Cons
- Limited classes for adults
- Most classes scheduled on weekdays
Forte Music in Canning Vale aims to immerse infants in music even before they turn a year old. This makes them a great option for parents who want to support their infant’s developmental skills while encouraging a love for music.
We like the variety in the classes they offer, and they don’t stick to offering vocal lessons exclusively. You or your child can enrol in instrument lessons, such as piano, strings, guitar, saxophone, flute, or percussion.
Each class teaches the basics of music. These include reading sheet music and writing musical notation.
We appreciate this approach, especially for beginners like us who only learned singing by ear. There’s much more to singing than just following along, and we appreciate learning the basics, even if it can be intimidating initially.
They also offer options to participate in group or individual classes. If you aren’t sure, you can take their free trial class to see what suits you or your child best.
We have taken their classes for adults, but most of their classes are for children, and their approach is tailored toward youngsters, too.
For instance, they have a prize system for young learners, which rewards students with coupons to be used in later lessons.
They’re also open seven days a week, although most of their classes are scheduled on weekdays. While this hasn’t been a problem for us, we imagine it can be difficult for parents with children of schooling age.

Pros
- Offers a half-hour trial class
- Good balance between practical and theory lessons
- Has group and private classes
- Has skill levels for group classes
Cons
- Limited classes for adults
- Most classes only meet weekly
Focus Music has a hands-on approach to each student enrolled in their programs. We especially like how they have a comprehensive curriculum per term that gives structure.
We looked at their curriculum and were impressed by how they balance music theory and practical skills. While it may be boring for young learners to dabble in music theory, it’s a necessary skill to have for budding musicians.
We can attest to this. Music theory can be daunting to learn, but it pays off.
We left our classes with a better understanding of the chord progressions and the circle of fifths.
This helps when it comes to singing the right melodies and transitioning between notes. Understanding music theory helped us with our inflections while still staying on the beat.
Classes are by term, namely for their structured group classes. They cap classes at a maximum of six students to allow for the teachers to give adequate attention to each student.
Classes are divided by skill level as well: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. We think this is great, as it allows collaboration with other students of the same skill level.
However, most of their classes are for children. While they do offer classes for adults, these are mostly upon request and cost more than their regular classes.
Furthermore, they mostly offer weekly classes. Young or newbie learners may need more frequency, so if you need more classes in a week, you’d have to request a special arrangement.

Pros
- Accepts students of all ages
- Friendly teacher
- Offers a free 40-minute trial class
- Most classes are one-on-one
Cons
- Only one instructor
- No physical location
Noakes Music Studio is owned and run by musician and certified music instructor, Max Noakes. Max has over 17 years of experience in teaching music and is passionate about his craft.
He offers vocal lessons for students of all ages. Students in Perth can choose between face-to-face classes, while students outside of Perth can avail of his online classes.
While he offers face-to-face classes, he currently doesn’t have a physical location. So if you’re a student looking to have face-to-face classes, you may have the lessons in the comfort of your own home.
We strongly recommend Max for adult learners, as most of his students are adults. We spoke to a student in his fifties who appreciates Max’s approach to him and his learning.
What we like most about Max is that he doesn’t discriminate by age and he encourages his students to learn more and keep going. We took his class as twenty-something students without prior experience in singing.
We’re in awe of his patience. Max knew how to keep us motivated, especially when we got discouraged or frustrated during the lessons.
His other students also commended this trait as well, which benefited their progress as students and musicians.
However, Max is the sole instructor for his lessons. We haven’t heard complaints about his availability from past and existing students, but this might be an issue when his services start to get more popular.
