From 1894 until the 1920s, the Coogee Hotel used to host picnics, gatherings, and meetings between local market gardeners and travellers. Almost a century later, the old Coogee Hotel remains a host to various gatherings over lunches and dinners but now with a new name, Coogee Common.

The team behind this lunch restaurant rehabilitated the old hotel site in 2018 and built a new garden and kitchens to turn it into a farm-to-table restaurant. This resulted in a restaurant surrounded by massive gardens where the chefs harvest 80% of the ingredients they use.

The restaurant’s menu is constantly changing, depending on their daily harvests. Diners can choose between a dining menu with heartier options and a canape menu that features starters and small dishes.

Pros

  • Open 7 days a week
  • Cosy but sophisticated atmosphere
  • Regularly changing menu

After honing his skills at a fugu (pufferfish) restaurant in Osaka, Fuji in Vic Park, and Kailis Brothers in Leederville, Chef Shiro Okuchi took on the challenge of opening his own restaurant in Leeming—Ichirin Japanese Food.

With years of experience working in both Japanese and Australian restaurants, he has mastered techniques in preparing various Australian fish varieties while staying true to traditional Japanese cooking methods.

Ichirin’s current menu features a unique fusion of these two cuisines, Japanese and Australian along with traditional Japanese food.

Customers can also book an omakase menu (chef’s personal selection) two days prior. This idea was inspired by the regulars at Marumo, a renowned Japanese restaurant in Nedlands, who requested an omakase meal from Chef Shiro during the early days of Ichirin.

Lunch is available at the restaurant from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM from Wednesday to Saturday.

To share more of their wine and use their estate’s produce, the Fogartys opened a farm-to-table lunch restaurant.

With the help of Executive Chef Guy Jeffreys, the restaurant serves dishes specifically designed to complement the flavours of Millbrook wines. Chef Guy Jeffreys primarily uses produce from the winery’s garden and orchard, so the menu changes with the seasons.
