The 6 Best Japanese Restaurants in Perth
How We Picked the Best Japanese Restaurants in Perth

Aside from affordability, the value of the dining services must be worth their price. The costs were also compared with other Japanese restaurants in Perth.

We looked at the assortment of food and beverages, as well as their catering and delivery options if any.
Service
The services were reviewed based on the variety and sufficiency of the staff.
Communication
Their staff should be accessible in case of questions or clarifications. They should also be knowledgeable and helpful throughout the service.

Marumo is one of our picks for a well-rounded dining experience at a Japanese restaurant in Perth.
We appreciate that they showcase various Japanese-influenced dishes, which are traditional yet also modern. For us, this caters to both enthusiasts and those hesitant to try authentic Japanese meals.
In our opinion, this restaurant is skilled in ensuring its customers get a taste of everything. They only serve a 7-course Omakase (Chef’s Selection) menu that delightfully changes per season.
The Omakase costs $85 per person, inclusive of green tea, with an additional $2.50 per person for corkage. We think this pricing is average, compared to other Japanese restaurants in Perth.
The meals are designed with fresh produce too. We believe this reassures diners that they only get served food in the best condition.
Furthermore, they have a BYO (Bring Your Own) policy. Their staff doesn’t serve alcoholic drinks, but customers may bring their own to accompany their meals.
Just be aware that dietary requirements can’t be met without prior arrangements. Due to the nature of their menu, they might be unable to accommodate all these requests.
Note that Marumo is open 4 days a week, and unfortunately they’re closed on Mondays and weekends. We found that the best way to reach them is through their email, but they take around 48 hours to send a response.
And due to their many customers, they only accept online reservations through their website. They’re unable to respond to any bookings via phone, SMS, or voice message.
Conveniently, free parking is available at the rear of the Chelsea Village complex. This makes them relatively accessible and you don’t have to worry about parking fees during your stay.
Pros
- Serves well-proportioned Japanese meals
- Uses local ingredients to make fresh dishes
- Customers may bring their own wine
- There’s free parking nearby
Cons
- Only serves a 7-course meal
- Cannot book via phone
- May be unable to meet all dietary needs

Hifumiya Udon Noodle House is a snug and lively Japanese restaurant in Perth worth considering.
First of all, we like that they have a good menu selection. They have various noodles and rice bowls like Teriyaki Chicken, Curry, Donburi, and Udon.
It’s amazing that this restaurant is built with the ambience of Kurashiki, Japan in mind too. The owner aims to provide an authentic Japanese dining experience.
Kurashiki is also the birthplace of Bukkake-style udon. This is why we expect they’re more skilled in making this dish than other Japanese restaurants in the city.
Their customer journey also looks seamless – they allow their customers to add free self-service toppings from the counter. For us, this lets diners appreciate making their meals personalised and suitable to their taste.
Not only that, but they also encourage customers to return their trays after dining. This teaches the discipline of cleaning up after eating, which some customers may not be accustomed to.
Hifumiya Udon Noodle House is open 7 days a week as well. We find this convenient so more customers can schedule their visit without hassle.
Nevertheless, they aren’t taking reservations at the restaurant. Booking is only accepted online.
When you visit, parking is available on Murray Street. But, the nearest space near the restaurant may easily be filled during peak hours.
Pros
- Decent Japanese food options
- Cosy lighting and ambience
- Experienced in cooking Bukkake-style udon
- Encourages responsible self-service
Cons
- Prospects may only book online
- Parking space nearby may easily be taken

If you love Japanese food and liquor, Main Street Ryu could be an exciting Japanese restaurant in Perth for you.
We think it’s delightful that they encourage customers to try new dishes out of the ordinary. Some of their dishes’ colours and styles also look different from traditional ones.
They have different menus for lunch, dinner, drinks, and functions too. They serve cold dishes, bento bowls, donburis, and the like.
Spicy food lovers may also indulge in their Volcano Ramen. We find their ‘disaster levels’ creative and enticing – this is available in Less Spicy, Normal, and Extra Spicy.
It’s much appreciated that they carefully label their menu as well. We believe this makes it quick to spot vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes for the diet conscious.
Remember to let their staff know if you also need gluten-free soy sauce so they can accommodate you before serving any.
Should you want seconds, we like that customers may easily upsize their meat and rice for an additional fee of $4 to $6.
Still, some dishes are only available on limited orders daily. Because of this, we suggest coming earlier to enjoy them all.
Main Street Ryu is open everyday, but they have varying opening times, so make sure to check before visiting to avoid confusion.
Pros
- Serves Japanese food with alcohol
- Accommodates spicy food fans and the health conscious
- Allows meat and rice upsizing
- Open every day
Cons
- Some dishes are limited
- Open hours may vary depending on the day

Nobu is one of the most globally-recognised Japanese restaurants in Perth because of its innovative Japanese cuisine.
Right off the bat, you can see great views from their location. We love that their restaurant is overlooking the Swan River and the city skyline.
We admire their reputable fusion of traditional Japanese cuisine with South American flavours too. This seems a great strategy to create a unique dining experience.
They offer vast food options as well – bento boxes, lunch specials like teriyaki and udon, Wagyu beef, Omakase menu, salads, and more.
Besides their long list of alcoholic beverages, there’s also a bunch of desserts like cakes and ice cream available.
Plus, we believe the customers would be entertained by their highly skilled, knife-wielding chefs. It’s amazing how they turn sushi preparation into a feast before the diners’ eyes.
This is probably why many choose the bar seats – the interactions and engagements with the chefs can make your night.
Nevertheless, check if you can handle sushi or raw food. It’s best to know this early than to have health issues later, like a few customers we talked to.
Also, their pricing is a bit expensive compared to other Perth Japanese restaurants.
Nobu is open for lunch and dinner at almost the same hours daily. There are tons of chances to try their culinary delights.
Pros
- Offers stunning views
- Mixes Japanese with South American cuisine
- Entertaining sushi preparation
- Available every day
Cons
- Risk of getting sick from raw food
- Pricey menu costs

The Bonsai is one of the top contemporary Japanese restaurants in Perth offering delectable share plates.
Apart from providing a menu for family, friends, and colleagues, we find it valuable that they have set menus too.
This lets guests skip the hassle of choosing their orders if they feel overwhelmed. After all, we saw that they have 10 to 16 taste profiles at varying prices – a lot to choose from for newcomers.
We love that patrons with dietary requirements shouldn’t worry as well. Just inform the staff of your preferences, and they’ll direct extra attention to the orders.
Although, their wine is only available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. They employ a BYO (Bring Your Own) wine policy during these 3 days, and corkage is $3.50 per person.
It’s also incredible that separate space is available for those who want privacy. They have dividing curtains at certain parts of the restaurant, so we know they can make diners feel more comfortable.
Unlike other Japanese restaurants in Perth, The Bonsai only serves dinner. They’re also closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
Unfortunately, they don’t have a delivery option yet, so you could only visit their restaurant to try their food.
Pros
- Provides curated share plates
- Offers 10 to 16 taste profiles
- Caters to dietary preferences
- Customers may ask for a separate room
Cons
- Only opens for dinner
- No available delivery
