If you want to see some nice white sand and clear blue water for a perfect beach day, we recommend visiting Cottesloe Beach.

Locals call this destination ‘cott’, and it’s one of the most well-known beaches in Australia. Many people from Perth and from other places come here often.

For us, this is among the best places to swim, have picnics, and let your kids have fun. Just check out some of our photos – you won’t get bored here!

The staff also ensures the guests’ safety. If you prefer not to swim in the deeper areas, you may still enjoy the waters between the shore and the flag posts near the lifeguard.

We also suggest going to one of the nearby pubs or restaurant bars after a long day at the beach.

Travel tip: The best time to visit this beach is from October to March! Cottesloe has beautiful weather during this time.

But overall, the place usually has a cool breeze, which makes it one of the most comfortable beaches to go to for everyone.

Just remember that dogs aren’t allowed on Cottesloe’s main beach. However, a dog beach alternative would be South Cottesloe Beach, which goes from Beach Street south to Mosman Beach.

And if you go in March, art gallery enthusiasts may look for the well-known sculptures by the sea. You may find this exhibition from the sea wall all the way down the beach to North Cottesloe and on the grassy areas around it.

You could also relax on the grassy slopes of the beach and explore the best sights of the seashore. There are lots of trees here, so you can conveniently spread out your picnic blankets with your loved ones.

If you hate the crowds, we think it’s also best to come to the beach as early as possible.

Do you need a spacious area for family picnics, BBQs, or perhaps a wedding? If so, we think the Civic Centre grounds are a fantastic choice.

The Civic Centre gardens are known for their peaceful atmosphere. There are old buildings and lush greenery all around them.

You may use the BBQs for free at any time of the day. Yet, the Town of Cottesloe asks that you be respectful of any weddings that may be happening on the grounds while you’re there.

Let’s walk you through some of the best parts of the Civic Centre building if you’re planning a wedding or know someone who might be interested:

  • Part of the main Civic Centre building on Broome Street is the historic War Memorial Hall. Because it has beautiful jarrah wood details and a stage, we believe this hall is ideal for an indoor wedding.
  • The Main Lawn is the biggest grassy area on the grounds of the Civic Centre, where people can use BBQs. For us, the stage’s stonework makes it a beautiful place for special events.
  • The Secret Garden or Playground 2 is a small patch of grass near the bottom of the grounds. There are many trees here, so we feel this is an excellent spot for photographers and videographers to get their best garden shots.
  • Smaller wedding receptions and business events are also typically held on the Sunken Lawn. This part is best for guests because it has a small, private ambience. This also has easy access to restrooms and parking.
  • Next is the Rotunda, which is also called the ‘Summer House’. This is a peaceful, quiet place where small or more intimate weddings can be held.
  • Lastly, the Cottesloe Arch Monument is a beautiful building that looks out over the beach. We think you’ll love seeing the sunsets here over the ocean. Many beach wedding enthusiasts will likely choose this, in our opinion.

Just note that the mentioned beach locations can only be booked for simple ceremonies, so no equipment or infrastructure can be used there.

Unfortunately, you can’t eat or drink there. So, it’s best to discuss everything with their staff beforehand to make sure there won’t be any problems.

You should also consider if you have a sufficient budget. For your reference, here are some of the Civic Centre’s wedding fees:

Cottesloe Civic Centre Wedding Hire – 3 hour minimum requiredHourly Rate
Ceremony and/or reception – includes all Civic Centre locations$305
Beach ceremony only$176
War Memorial Hall – back up for the rainy weather$305
Refundable Bond – ceremony only$500
Bond Reception – includes ceremony, if applicable$1,000

OPENING HOURSMonday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Those who feel like playing golf may check out Sea View Golf Club. This is the third oldest golf course in Western Australia.

This site is located in the beachside neighbourhood of Cottesloe, which we believe has a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean.

In our opinion, you could easily pretend to be a professional golf player here. Sea View is an ‘A’ grade, 9-hole championship course with real links!

But don’t fret if you’re just a newbie at the sport. This golf course was made to test the skills of players of all levels and is also known for being easy to play.

And even though they’re a private club for those with a membership, non-members are welcome to use their course and have a chill time.

When you get hungry after a long day, their clubhouse also seems like a great place to have drinks, eat, or have a party. You can do these while indulging in the beautiful views of the course and ocean.

In addition, we think the Sea View Golf Club is a lovely place for a good number of special events. Whether it’s a formal sit-down dinner or a casual cocktail party for up to 250 people, their staff can make some arrangements.

Their full-length windows light up the beautiful views of Cottesloe Beach and Rottnest Island, giving you an amazing setting for your dream wedding.

This club also has an in-house caterer with dedicated chefs who can cook for most budgets.

If you aren’t getting married anytime soon (but would like to someday), it sure would be nice to casually think about it while you’re there on a picnic.

If you want to end the day with an excellent meal, we suggest you pick a good restaurant by the beach. One of the most popular dining spots in Cottesloe is the Blue Duck.

With its stunning views, seaside charm, and choice of outdoor seating, Blue Duck is the perfect place to have a blissful time. There are options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

They also serve fun, cosmopolitan food and are well-known for their tasty Australian and modern food.

We think the place is stylish and classy, and the service is quick and friendly. This restaurant also has meals for both vegetarians and vegans!

As you sip your coffee in the morning or after lunch, you may look out over the beautiful beach from the restaurant – make sure to sit by the windows!

And of course, fresh and tasty seafood is what the Blue Duck is known for.

We recommend trying out their most popular dishes, such as the fresh oysters and slow-cooked lamb shoulders. Alternatively, you can get the seafood platter or the grilled octopus.

Just keep in mind to call ahead to make sure you get a table. The Blue Duck is on the expensive side too, so if you want good food and a nice atmosphere, be ready to pay a bit more.

And there you go! We hope you find the top things to do in Cottesloe, Perth. May you and your loved ones enjoy your eventful trip!
