The Best Thrifting Shops in Perth for a Low-Cost But Stylish

The Best Thrifting Shops in Perth for a Low-Cost But Stylish #OOTD

Have you drooled over some clothes on Instagram, only to remember your bank account isn’t as lavish as your fashion dreams? Because, honey, same!

But instead of drowning in fashion FOMO, I decided to take matters into my own hands! Cue the Google search for thrift stores near me where I could hunt down dresses that could make me become the fashion icon I was born to be (even if my mom disagrees).

After some serious digging through racks, I finally discovered the best thrift stores in Perth. Of course, I’m not one to gatekeep, so check them all out here!

AYLA’s (Assisting Your Life to Achieve) DION Marketplace

Location: 10 McKinnon St, Cockburn Central, WA 6164, Australia

Website: http://www.aylainc.org.au/

Contact information: 08 9414 7286

Operating hours:

Monday to Friday: 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Saturday: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Sunday: 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Assisting Your Life to Achieve’s (AYLA) DION Marketplace’s rainbow-coloured fences are pretty hard to miss when driving down McKinnon Street. And you honestly shouldn’t even hope to miss it because you can score some of the cheapest finds here!

As soon as we entered, we were surprised by the massive inventory. The thrift store offers literally everything, from clothing and toys to books and homewares, at such low prices.

All of the thrift store’s profits are used to help disadvantaged people and LGBTQIA+ people who were abandoned because of their sexuality. This means you not only get great items at bargain prices but also help the less fortunate.

Pro Tip: There’s a small cafe called Patience Café, also owned by AYLA, right next to the thrift store that sells really nice cakes and drinks. If you need groceries, you’ll find some right next to the cafe, which the thrift shop offers for a low price.

Good Sammy Factory Outlet Op Shop

Location: 35 Bannister Rd, Canning Vale, WA 6155, Australia

Website: https://goodsammy.com.au/shop-factory-outlet

Contact information: +61 8 9463 0500

Operating hours:

Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Sunday: 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM

Good Sammy Factory Outlet Op Shop in Canning Vale is every avid thrifter’s paradise. It has everything you want from a thrift store: a large inventory, a diverse selection, and extremely low prices.

When we first came here, the huge number of cages containing clothes and other items was pretty overwhelming. But once we started rummaging through the cages, we soon realised just how much of a gold mine the place was.

We found hundreds of cute clothing items that definitely needed a second chance. We didn’t even realise we were already filling up the cart, but then again, who cares? We’re not going to go broke because everything’s cheap!

Pro Tip: It was a bit dusty when we were rummaging through the cages, so make sure to bring a mask when you visit.

Starick Op Shop

Location: 110 Kooyong Rd, Rivervale, WA 6103, Australia

Website: http://www.starick.org.au/op-shop/

Contact information: (08) 6271 0299

Operating hours:

Monday to Friday: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Saturday: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

At first glance, Starick Op Shop doesn’t really look like a thrift store. It looks more like a small boutique offering brand-new, high-quality fashion pieces because of how organised the whole shop is.

The stock isn’t as huge as other thrift stores, but it didn’t bother us that much since we still scored some lovely dresses and bags. All the clothes were hung beautifully throughout the store, and we didn’t feel overwhelmed searching for good finds.

The dresses that we got were all offered at discounted prices, and we even felt like we were robbing the store. We’re not sure how they can fund the services they do for victims with what the shop’s charging, but they seem to be doing a great job anyway.

Pro Tip: Since Starick is focused on helping women who are victims of domestic abuse, even its thrift store is mainly geared towards women. If you’re looking for men’s clothing or accessories, it’s best to check out the other thrift shops on this list.

Salvos Stores O’Connor

Location: Homeworld, 10/378 South St, O’Connor, WA 6163, Australia

Website: https://www.salvosstores.com.au/stores/wa/6163-o’connor-670

Contact information: (08) 9331 2866

Operating hours:

Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Salvos Stores in O’Connor is one of the many Salvos Stores scattered throughout Perth. It offers a range of donated pre-loved goods, including clothing, homewares, books, toys, appliances, and furniture.

We were just supposed to drop off some boxes of clothes and toys as a donation, but we ended up looking around because of the huge stock. It’s one of the biggest Salvos Stores we’ve been to, and, amazingly, they were able to categorise the items efficiently.

They have a section for streetwear, vintage items, and clothing with fancy labels, which are usually more expensive than the items we got from other thrift stores. But there’s also a section for more affordable items in decent condition that can go to as low as $5.

Pro Tip: If you’re from the north, there’s a Joondalup store where you can also find some fantastic deals. The store is much bigger than this and has a wider range of items.

ParaQuad Industries Op Shop & Book Bazaar

From @meisher500

Location: 147 High Rd, Willetton, WA 6155, Australia

Website: https://www.alinea.org.au/paraquad-industries/op-shops/

Contact information: 08 9354 9673, [email protected]

Operating hours: Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Bookworms will have a field day once they visit ParaQuad Industries Op Shop & Book Bazaar in Willetton. They sell plenty of pre-loved books at very affordable prices, so you can stock up that shelf of yours without worrying about breaking the bank.

We really loved how well the books were arranged on the shelf as it made it easier for us to browse through them. They were categorised according to their genre, such as science fiction, junior fiction, and reference books.

ParaQuad also has a large collection of pre-loved clothes that are sold at around $5 or less. Their men’s clothing collection is a bit bigger than that of other op shops around Perth, so it’s worth checking out for men.

Pro Tip: Film buffs who often drive around the area, try checking the shop every now and then. They have a large collection of film CDs and DVDs that you might like.

Red Cross Shop North Perth

From @opshopsnob

Location: 502 Charles St, North Perth, WA 6006, Australia

Website: https://www.redcross.org.au/support-us/red-cross-shops

Contact information: 08 6444 9805

Operating hours: Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The Red Cross Shop in North Perth pretty much destroys the idea that thrift stores or op shops only offer cheap items. The store only offers high-quality pre-loved items, many of which are designer or branded clothes and shoes.

We found many homewares and cute clothes when we visited, some of which still looked unworn. While the clothes are quite expensive compared to other op shops, they’re still a bargain if you compare them to their actual selling price.

We also really loved how organised the shop was, unlike other thrift stores, where the clothes are piled in a basket. The air conditioning inside also made browsing through their collection pretty comfortable.

Pro Tip: Red Cross has over five thrift shops around Perth. Check your postcode or town on their website to find one closer to you.

Save the Children

Location: 600 Stirling Hwy, Mosman Park, WA 6012, Australia

Website: https://www.savethechildren.org.au/Get-Involved/Op-shops?currentSort=

Contact information: 08 9213 7832

Operating hours:

Monday to Friday: 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Saturday: 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM

With over 10 thrift stores across Metro Perth, Save the Children Op Shop is probably one of the most recommended thrift stores in the city. Every avid thrifter must’ve gone here or heard about it at least once in their life.

One thing we really love about all the Save the Children thrift stores we’ve been to is that they have really good quality control over the items they sell. All the clothes we bought from them are in great condition and don’t look like they’re second-hand.

Those who recently moved into a new apartment will also find a lot of great deals here for their place. If I didn’t have many plates at home, I would’ve snagged a couple of those cute floral plates they have on display.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking for retro-style clothes and quirky dresses, the Mosman Park store of Save the Children has a ton of options for you. They also have a few branded items, but they’re a bit pricier than what you’d expect from a thrift store.

Vinnies

Location: 267B William St, Northbridge, WA 6003, Australia

Website: https://www.vinnies.org.au/wa

Contact information: 08 9228 4877

Operating hours: Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

If you haven’t found the right outfit for a retro party, Vinnies in Northbridge might just have what you’re looking for. The thrift store sells a wide range of awesome vintage pieces for really low prices, perfect if you’re tight on budget.

The thrift store is pretty small, but it’s packed with several clothes and accessories for both men and women. On my first visit to the shop, I managed to find some really cool vintage scarves that I still use as tops every now and then.

We also can’t help but fall in love with the shop’s retro interior, with its colourful walls and vintage posters. We even snapped some photos in the shop while trying on their dresses just because the place looked cute.

Pro Tip: For those who love patched denim jackets, we saw lots of them the last time we visited. You might find more of those and some new ones if you visit the store, too.

Hope Op Shop

Location: 403 Albany Hwy, Victoria Park, WA 6100, Australia

Website: https://www.nakuruhope.org/

Contact information: +61 456 579 403, [email protected]

Operating hours:

Monday, 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Saturday: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Hope Op Shop is another vintage thrift store in Perth. All the profits from the goods it sells are used to provide assistance, such as food, education, and counselling, to the people suffering from poverty in Nakuru.

It was quite surprising just how diverse this shop’s collection is, considering how tiny it looks on the outside. They have every vintage and antique decoration you can think of, from dolls and books to homewares and furniture.

We got these really cute tea cup sets and these vintage margarita glasses. We often use them during house parties and still get questions about where we got them, especially the margarita glasses.

Pro Tip: Although Hope Op Shop is known as a vintage shop, the clothes it offers have a less retro vibe than the ones you’ll find in Vinnies. They’re more classic, so they can be perfect if you’re looking for good office clothes.

Masonic Charity Outlet

Location: 1291 Albany Hwy, Cannington WA 6107, Australia

Website: http://mcowa.org.au/

Contact information: 08 9309 0127

Operating hours:

Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Saturday: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Another great thrift store in Cannington is Masonic Charity Outlet, which is within walking distance of other shops, like Vinnies, Good Sammys, and Salvos Stores. Although it’s smaller than the others, Masonic has a good range of items for shoppers.

The standout feature of this thrift store that we’re really impressed by is its prices. It’s a true thrift store, with all the items, from the books down to the big furniture, priced reasonably.

We also loved that they organised the furniture in a way you would inside the home, giving shoppers a good idea of how to match the decorations and furniture.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking for a thrift store closer to the city, they have another store in Mount Lawley. But if you’re looking to donate some items, you’ll need to head to Cannington since they only accept donations there.
