Perth: Things to Do in the City with Kids
Kids can sometimes get bored when faced with academics all day long. Luckily, we have a list of activities that can stimulate their minds while being fun.
What are the best things that I can do with kids in Perth?
The best things you can do with your kids in Perth are:
- Discover how science can be fun at Scitech.
- Explore the movies at Galaxy Drive-In.
- Connect with the animals at Perth Zoo.
- Swing at Wembley Mini Golf.
- Ride a bike through Kings Park.
Make science fun at Scitech
Address: City West Centre Corner Railway Street & Sutherland St, West Perth WA 6005, Australia
Website: https://www.scitech.org.au/visit/
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:30 am to 4 pm, except Christmas and Boxing Day
Cost: Rates start at $12 for kids 4 to 12
Find out fascinating facts at Perth’s most fun and educational centre designed for kids and kids at heart. The interactive museum has several facilities like theatres, a planetarium, and themed exhibitions.
We got to learn that starfish can regrow four of their five limbs. While we can imagine the pain it must feel, we can’t say the same thing if our feet were aching from exploring Scitech.
Scitech is the perfect spot to get out of the rain or the muggy weather outside. You can even hold a birthday party inside, which is ideal for four to 12-year-old children.
Watch movies under the stars at Galaxy Drive-In
Address: 157-167 Goollelal Dr, Kingsley WA 6026, Australia
Website: http://galaxydrivein.com.au/
Hours: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 6 pm to 10:30 pm
Cost:
- Tuesday: $20 per car
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday double feature (2 movies): $10 for adults, $5 for children above 4, free for children under 4
We love packing up a mattress at the back of our trucks and tailgate park in Galaxy Drive-In. Bring some food and drinks, and you’re good to go, especially if your kids are movie buffs.
Watch movies under the stars with your kids at a bargain $20 entry fee per car, and make the night memorable. In case you have issues with your vision, you might need to visit an eye clinic first.
The best times are during the weekends when double feature movies are shown. Galaxy Drive-In opens at 6 pm, and movies start at quarter past seven.
See the animals at Perth Zoo
Address: 20 Labouchere Rd, South Perth WA 6151, Australia
Website: http://www.perthzoo.wa.gov.au/
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm
Cost:
- Adults at $34.60
- Australian concession at $27.50
- Seniors at $27.50
- Children at $17.30
- Mini-groups composed of 2 adults and 2 children at $91
The Perth Zoo has been operating for 120 years and counting with millions of visitors appreciating the conservation efforts of the zoo. Take a zebra car tour with your kids, and watch the giraffes pass by.
Walking around with your kids can also be fun too, as long as everyone is protected from the hot sun. Do what dermatologists say and rub on some sunscreen.
You can also sit down and picnic in several shaded locations scattered all throughout the zoo. If your kids get tired of the animals, which we doubt, they can also get some fun time at the playground.
Swing away at Wembley Mini Golf
Address: 20 Labouchere Rd, South Perth WA 6151, Australia
Website: https://www.wembleygolf.com.au/cms/mini-golf/
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm
Cost:
- Weekend rates for children at $14, adults at $20, and families of 2 adults and 2 children at $59
- Discounted rates for weekday sessions
When you’re looking to increase hand-eye coordination for yourself and your kids, Wembley Mini Golf is your best bet.
Not only is the 18-hole mini golf course entertaining, but it’s also outfitted with water features, bridges, and sand traps just like its full-sized version.
You might have to practice your swing when you golf. Just don’t swing too hard, or you might need an urgent visit to a pain specialist in the middle of your game.
The course is designed for kids and adults, so you won’t have to worry about your kids getting it right. Just simply choose whether you’re perfect for a starter, intermediate, or advanced course.
They can get fully booked, so you might want to set aside two hours for this. While waiting, you can chill at the restaurant and bar for your turn.
Ride a bike through Kings Park
Address: Fraser Ave, Perth WA 6005, Australia
Website: http://www.spinwaywa.bike/
Hours: Open 24 hours
Cost: $1.40 per hour
Breeze through the historic Kings Park on a rental bike with your kids as long as you maintain the 10-kilometre per hour speed. Be sure to check out all the sights such as the State War Memorial and DNA Tower climb after.
Watch out for some areas though since bikes aren’t allowed in all of Kings Park. It would also be best to cycle at a moderate pace to keep your kids safe unless you want to visit their pediatrician in the middle of the ride.
If you have your own bikes, you won’t have to get a rental. Just drive and leave your car in the parking lot and start biking at the designated shared pathways.
