Cottesloe Beach in Perth is an ultimate summer hotspot. With its dazzling blue waters, powdery white sand, and vibrant atmosphere, this beach is an all-time favourite among beach enthusiasts for swimming, surfing, and snorkelling.
We find it convenient that this beach is conveniently located just 15 minutes west of Perth’s city centre, making it easily accessible for locals and tourists alike.
There are also several accommodation options available nearby, ranging from luxurious beachfront resorts to cosy guesthouses. If you’re on a budget, don’t worry! There are affordable hostels and vacation rentals to suit all preferences too.
In our opinion, the beach boasts excellent amenities, including clean restrooms, changing facilities, and showers, so we think you can easily freshen up after a fun day by the sea.
Here, we recommend diving into the refreshing waves, paddling around, and letting the cool sea water embrace you. The best part? It’s free!
You can also gather your friends and challenge them to an epic beach volleyball match. For us, what could be better than the sun, the sand, and a bit of friendly competition?
For adventure seekers, we feel it’s best to bring your own snorkelling gear to explore the underwater wonders. This way, you can enjoy it without spending more than you intended to.
But if you prefer a peaceful activity, we suggest packing a scrumptious picnic basket and setting up under the shady trees for a delightful feast. Or, if you’re a grill master, we advise you to take advantage of the free BBQ facilities provided.
In our opinion, transportation to Cottesloe Beach is a breeze too! You can hop on a bus or train from Perth to reach this sandy paradise.
If you want to drive here instead, there’s ample parking available, but make sure to arrive early, as it can get crowded during peak hours.
Also, note that the summer months from December to February are likely the best times to visit Cottesloe Beach – and likely other Perth beaches too. This is when the weather is sunny and warm, creating an ideal setting for beach activities and relaxation.
But while having fun is a priority, we believe safety should never take a backseat. Always swim between the flags, which indicate the patrolled areas.
If you’re not a confident swimmer, we also advise you to wear a life jacket or use a floatation device while in the water.
But even though the water is cool, remember that it’s still pretty hot in Perth. So, it’s best to regularly apply sunscreen to avoid painful sunburns and uncomfortable trips to the dermatologist.
Pro tip:
We think you shouldn’t leave Cottesloe Beach without experiencing the iconic Indiana Teahouse. For us, it’s not only a charming cafe with delicious treats but also offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.
Sip on your favourite beverage and indulge in delectable cakes while the sea breeze plays with your hair – what sheer bliss!
