The Best Halal Restaurants in Perth So Good They Almost Made Us Convert

  • Food Quality: Rubbery chicken should be a crime against food enthusiasts everywhere. Naturally, we only included restaurants with lip-smacking servings.
  • Authenticity of Flavors: Lousy imitations are a no-no, especially when it comes to halal food.
  • Ambiance: Halal doesn't mean you have to eat in a dated, fluorescent-lit room with dull, plastic chairs. The general atmosphere and looks played a part in this review.
  • Value for Money: Who says good halal food has to break the bank? We're all about delectable flavors without the financial indigestion!
  • Hygiene Standards: Cleanliness is a must. No one wants to eat halal bites in a restaurant that looks like the set of “Saw 1.”
  • Service: Being served with a smile is as important as the perfect ratio of spices in your biryani.
  • Wait Time: We know great food takes time, but let's keep it under an hour.
  • Accessibility: Do you really want to trek through three suburbs or scale a cliff just for a decent falafel?

If you think halal means “bland,” prepare your palate for a revelation.

Halal, rooted in Islamic dietary laws, isn’t just about restrictions. It’s a standard ensuring dishes not only meet religious guidelines but also uphold top-notch quality and ethical sourcing.

Over the past months, we combed through Perth to find the best haunts that serve such meals. Our search led to gourmet dishes, home-cooked eats, and streetside grub we still think about 24/7.

Stylish and sun-kissed, The Sarapan is a halal resto that doesn’t only check the flavor department. The interior’s neutrals aren’t eye-searing, and the lush greenery adds a pop of nature.

It’s their halal Malaysian staples that kept us coming back, though. Our all-time favorite is the nasi lemak, a fragrant dish boasting rice cooked in coconut milk, spicy sambal, fresh anchovies, and silky-soft chicken.

Another meal that earned them a spot in our list and hearts is The Melt. A bite of this sandwich-style nosh bursts with the floral notes of bunga telang (Asian pigeonwings), complementing the essences of salted eggs, spiced beef, and fiery coconut gravy.

We’re also glad the welcoming staff recommended the curry puffs. These bites are highly savory and hearty—perfect with their lemon tea and Malaysian pulled coffee.

As for the drawbacks, they can get too crowded at times, and some mains can be pricey.

Pros

  • Homely vibes and views
  • Authentic
  • Great coffee
  • Speedy service

Cons

  • Pricey mains
  • Small servings

Will Definitely Be Back

“Oh em gee, the Roti Banjir was amazing. The dhal and sambal were very flavorful and blended together nicely onto a super decadent and flaky roti. The sous vide eggs were cooked to perfection.

And to top it off, I think the coffee was one of the best coffees in Perth. Yum!

Will definitely be back to try more menu items.”

Value For Money

“We had a very sumptuous brunch today at The Sarapan at South Perth, and it didn’t disappoint our first visit. Ambiance was so cozy and the staff were really nice as well. We didn’t wait too much time for our foods to arrive at our table so that’s a plus points for them. Value for money were spot on! Generous portions and flavour wise you can really taste the authenticity of the Malaysian cuisine at their menu.”

Adding Manise Cafe here was a unanimous move. Its no-nonsense decor and time-honored halal Indonesian specialties hit the spot.

We regularly clean up their deep-fried fish cakes filled with yolks, an entree that epitomizes the umami and hearty combo this spot does so well. Dunking a piece into the tangy and sugary tamarind sauce completes this headliner.

The beef bangers, which make up the bulk of their menu, don’t disappoint, either. Our team doesn’t have preferred options (they’re all good), but it isn’t a bad move to start with the grilled oxtail, fried ribs, and beef swimming in a peanut soup.

Vegetarians are bound to be impressed, too. From lightly battered eggplants to a savory bowl of greens and potatoes covered in peanut sauce, Manise Cafe’s “No meat, no problem!” plates are highly rated.

However, you shouldn’t expect large servings. The dining area is also a bit cramped.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Laid-back
  • Authentic
  • Diverse menu

Cons

  • Small servings
  • Cramped
  • Dips can be too spicy

Chill Place To Hangout

“Authentic indonesian halal food. Feel free to try their food. Nearby to Perth Mosque.

Interior good and chill place to hangout too. If you come alone, no worries you still be able to dine in.

You also can get your favourite Teh Botol here too. Food taste fine and savoury. It does bring memories back home for the taste of Nasi Goreng.”

All Authentic

“Manise is amazing. Must try in Northbridge for tasty Indonesian food. We had the Gado Gado, Nasi Goreng and the eggplant dish, all authentic and the satay sauce is delicious.”

Yes, Karache by Sani can get too bustling and slow during the hectic lunch hours, but not adding them here would be a mistake.

Their rotating selection of stews, spicy curries, seafood, and halal meats are huge hits. The ever-jampacked alfresco and indoor areas also host enjoyers of teh tarik, a sought-after milk tea with kuih, a bite-sized sweet.

For us, though, nothing touches their rendang, a robustly spiced beef dish that elevates the tier of what essentially is a hole-in-the-wall haunt. The aromatics, coconut milk, and patient cooking result in a sweet, earthy, and savory specialty that melts in the mouth.

Pairing the beef rendang with their top-notch curry puffs is also a no-brainer. But if you prefer a more intense side dish, the martabak, a thin-crust pastry with strongly seasoned protein, will do the trick.

Pros

  • Energetic atmosphere
  • Breezy
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Can get crowded
  • Slightly slow service
  • Small servings

I Was Pleasantly Surprised

“I am a loyal customer here. This restaurant stands out as one of the finest Asian cuisine spots in Perth. Not only is the food delicious, but the portions are also quite generous. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they only charged $10.90 for their substantial serving of chicken fried rice. I’m thrilled!”

Ikhwan Cafe may not have the glitz of upscaled restaurants or the whimsy of quirky getaways, but their chicken and lamb skewers more than make up for their somewhat boring look.

Their nasi goreng has shattered our diet goals more times than we can count, too. Before you throw shade our way, just know that their take on this Indo masterpiece maintains the fiery and savory profile that almost all food critics and fans praise.

And don’t get us started on their strong noodle selection. From Thai-style tom yum famed for its citrusy broth to their stir-fried noodles crowned with your protein of choice, Ikhwan has a knack for all things slurp-worthy.

The cherry on top is their all-you-can-eat buffet, a full-course feast typically available on Sundays. This deal has a rotating menu, but you can expect a drool-worthy mix of noodles, skewers, and mini desserts, like kuih and jelly cakes.

Pros

  • Offers all-you-can-eat
  • Authentic
  • Affordable
  • Diverse menu
  • Home-style cooking
  • Homely atmosphere

Cons

  • Mundane decor
  • Can be slow
  • Limited space

Won’t Hurt Your Pocket

Petra is the Middle East on a platter, no question. Just look at their chart-toppers: grilled baba ghanoush, creamy chickpeas with tahini, and simmered fava beans with a garlicky touch.

The restaurant’s lighthearted decor and cheerful vibe also extend to the staff.

On top of that, we swear by their shawarma, charcoal-grilled chicken, and lamb cooked in yogurt. These offerings become more palate-pleasing with spiced cauliflowers or a plate of fattoush salad on the side.

For a sweet finish, we usually go for their kunafa. This treat features a layer of shredded phyllo dough that conceals a luscious filling of stretchy cheese, soaked in sweet honey.

A major snag to point out, though, is the quality of their all-you-can-eat servings. We tried them once, and the dishes weren’t as robust as their regular offerings in terms of flavor.

Pros

  • Homely vibe
  • Diverse menu
  • Fair prices
  • Authentic food

Cons

  • Bland buffet offerings
  • Busy peak hours
