Pros
- Warm and lovely interiors in 3 interconnected rooms
- Offers tea types per taste note
- Each tea is brewed at the ideal temperature
- Has espressos, champagne, and wine options
Cons
- Several treats can be too sweet
- Other booked events may cause a lot of noise
The Cape Arid Rooms, in the south-eastern wing of the State Buildings, is known for its excellent high tea in Perth.
They offer tea per taste note – sweet and mellow, vibrant and refreshing, rich and bold, and light and aromatic. They also have a ‘rare and precious’ tea classification.
We like that they brew each tea at the ideal temperature so anyone can enjoy the beverages at their best.
But if you’re not a tea fan, their espresso has different flavours too. This includes short black, short macchiato, cappuccino, latte, flat white, and long macchiato, alongside their milk alternatives.
On the other hand, different kinds of champagne and wine are available too.
These beverages complement their tasty delights like egg sandwiches, coffee almond éclair, cocoa sponge, cookies, and the like. Yet, some clients noted that some options are too sweet for their taste.
Their location has warm and lovely interiors as well. It consists of 3 interconnected rooms with detailed watercolour and ink paintings on the walls, high ceilings, and timber-shuttered windows.
However, some booked events may occasionally cause a lot of noise and interrupt the dining experience of other customers.
Cape Arid Rooms’ high tea services are available Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 5 pm. Just note that a 24-hour advanced reservation is required.

These go perfectly with their tea options – Lavender, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Chai,

Pros
- Caters to both adults and kids
- Offers traditional high tea and teddy bear picnics
- Open for high tea 5 days a week
- Decent parking space available
Cons
- Cannot cater for dairy, nut, or gluten-free, high teas
- The parking area can get a bit hot
Cottage Tea Rooms is one of our favourite venues for high tea in Perth since they cater to both adults and kids.
Those who booked their high tea can enjoy these services Tuesdays to Saturdays at either 11 am or 3 pm, for 2 hours each.
During traditional high tea, each person receives substantial food – 4 sweets, 4 savouries, 3 sandwiches, and 2 scones with jam and cream. They may also choose between bottomless tea or 2 coffees per person.
For kids, we also like their Teddy Bear Picnic option. The children will get a personal basket with homemade treats among a quaintly-decorated table with teddy bear decor.
Additionally, their friendly staff will guide the little ones in a teddy garden-making activity, and the kids may take home some of the teddy bears.
However, they cannot cater for dairy, nut, or gluten-free high teas due to limited storage and menu capabilities. So, knowing which food to avoid would be best for the kids’ health.
They’re also open for casual dining 6 days a week if you want to pop in for their famous scones with tea or locally-roasted coffee.
Cottage Tea Rooms has a decent parking space available, though there might not be sufficient trees for shade during hot days.

Pros
- Award-winning high tea services
- Has 2 high tea seatings to accommodate more
- Good selection of sweet and savoury options
- Available live harpist
- Free wi-fi
Cons
- Pricing is expensive for some
- Need at least a 72-hour notice for dietary requirements
Located on the lobby level of the luxurious Duxton Hotel Perth, Firewater Grille is an elegant and stylish venue for tea.
It was incredible that their high tea in Perth won an award in 2021 as Gold Plate Award Winner - Best High Tea.
To accommodate more people, their high tea services are at 1 pm for the first seating and 1:30 pm for the second, for 3 hours each. But, bookings are necessary to secure slots.
Dietary requirements also need to be provided at least 72 hours before the reservation. Unfortunately, last-minute requests won’t be catered to.
Their menu also boasts delicate canapes, savoury delights, and an assortment of handcrafted desserts. Freshly-baked lemonade scones are also served warm with whipped cinnamon cream, wattle seed butter, and apricot jam.
A live harpist would be there to heighten the overall ambience and experience as well.
Free Wi-Fi is available too, making their place an ideal location to hold work meetings or to enjoy time with friends.
Furthermore, Firewater Grille is located right next to the Perth Concert Hall. They offer pre-show meals, as well as post-event meal and beverage options.
Just one thing, though. Some customers think their pricing is expensive, with a 20% surcharge for public holidays.
