How We Picked the Best Coffee Shops in Perth

Smooth Operator Coffee in Perth is one of our recommendations for a carefully selected rotation of tasty brews.

It’s great that their coffee prices range from average to slightly lower than those of other Perth coffee shops.

We saw that there’s also a good number of coffee options like espresso, latte, cappuccino, cold brew, and other drinks like tea and hot chocolate. This goes well with their few toasties or toasted bread.

They may have a small space, but this is uniquely designed where people can unwind with their good tunes.

Still, ordering ahead is advisable if you want to get ahead in line. We like that you can pick it up in 5 to 10 minutes from confirming your order.

Gift cards are also available for purchase. We feel this is a delightful yet easy way to brighten up someone else’s day – you may send one instantly or on a future date.

For early birds, they’re open as early as 6:30 am on Mondays to Fridays, but they also close early at 3 pm.

Also, we suggest looking for their small entrance on the left of the TruGem shop or opposite The Melbourne Hotel. There’s no clear indicator of Smooth Operator Coffee’s company name, so we think some may easily overlook it.

Pros

  • Reasonable pricing
  • Decent coffee options and toasties
  • Efficient pick-up system
  • Opens early morning

Cons

  • Tiny entrance and space
  • Newcomers may easily miss their location

For a cosy coffee time in Perth, Howard’s Groove has a welcoming and peaceful ambience for you and your friends to enjoy.

Customers have several hot and iced coffee options, as well as juices and other drinks.

We also like the variety of their toasted sandwiches – Chilli Gonzales, Cuban, The Ozzy (classic Vegemite and cheese), and The Italian (mozzarella, tomatoes, pesto, and basil on sourdough bread).

What’s more, we appreciate that the waiting time is pretty quick and efficient.

In our opinion, this makes the cafe ideal for those in a hurry for breakfast. This also seems suitable for grabbing a quick coffee before returning to work offices nearby.

Nonetheless, their coffee may taste too milky for some. We suggest letting the barista or staff know your preferences beforehand to ensure you get your desired coffee flavour.

It’s convenient that this cafe is located in Perth Central Business District for better accessibility too. And if you don’t mind walking a bit, we found that Howard’s Groove is just a 4-minute walk from Elizabeth Quay.

There’s also a limited parking space outside the building, so it might get filled fast. For us, it’s best to park early should you want to stay a little longer.

Pros

  • Serene environment
  • Multiple hot and cold drink choices
  • Fast serving time
  • Strategic central location

Cons

  • Their coffee may have too much milk
  • Limited parking

Tartine Cafe serves quick dishes with a posh vibe. We believe this is perfect for catering and impromptu coffee breaks.

They offer a fantastic variety of roasted coffee in Perth. We’re astounded by their cutting-edge espresso machines and Mazzer grinders, which enable their baristas to maximise the flavour and quality of the coffee.

For variety, they also offer loose-leaf teas and beverages made with Belgian chocolate.

We like how they efficiently provide coffee and sweets if you’re pressed for time.

It takes a few minutes to complete their online purchase form, especially if you only have a few orders. Then, they can reserve these for delivery or collection.

This cafe also specialises in both classic homemade baguettes and French pastries. Furthermore, we think it’s wonderful that they offer gluten-free baguettes for individuals with this dietary requirement.

Vegetarians may also savour their hot-pressed sandwiches. Since each is divided into two halves, we advise sharing the other half with someone if you’re a light eater.

They provide yoghurt cups, too – another distinctive feature we love about them. These are typically combined with bananas, muesli (rolled oats cereal), or mixed berries.

In addition, they have some unique desserts. The Belgian chocolate brownie topped with ice cream or the coconut fudge slice is also an excellent choice on hot days.

But, looking for alternative parking in the City of Perth Parking is advisable. Parking may not be sufficient near Tartine Cafe, so the next option is about 5 minutes away.

Pros

  • Good selection of coffee and drinks
  • Serves French pastries and yoghurt
  • Offers both vegetarian and gluten-free options
  • Provides a web form for easy order placement

Cons

  • Not enough parking space
  • Unavailable on the weekends

We recommend Allure Cafe Perth if you prefer medium-dark roasted coffee in Perth to pass the time.

Their coffee is from Papua New Guinea, Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Indonesia. Because of this variety, we appreciate that customers may taste different nuances of intense dark chocolate and potent berry flavours.

It’s also wonderful that they provide milkshakes with ice cream for people who don’t drink coffee regularly. Their popular flavours include chocolate, caramel, vanilla, chai, and strawberry.

We observed that this cafe offers a variety of paninis, wraps, bagels, croissants, and sandwiches too. It seems fun to try out different cuisines prepared by their executive chefs.

For quicker service, we enjoy that they have a separate takeout menu. However, if you have the time, you might like lingering in their outdoor space instead.

Customers can also reserve their catering services, though there isn’t much food to choose from. Plus, the costs might be a bit high.

As for the direction, this café is between Wellington Square Park and Royal Perth Hospital. Since more potential customers can access it, we think their placement is practical.

Just know that Allure Cafe Perth is only open half days, starting as early as 7 am, 5 days a week.

Pros

  • Delicious medium-dark roasted coffee
  • Offers alternatives for non-coffee lovers
  • Serves desserts and appetisers
  • Provides catering services

Cons

  • Not many catering meal options
  • Available only on partial days

Those who love the aromatic smell of coffee in Perth would probably like Upside Coffee.

From the get-go, we find it valuable that they only brew in small coffee batches. This ensures that they can serve fresh coffee the whole day.

Moreover, we love that they have alternative milk options with no extra fee and syrups for coffee lovers with a sweet tooth. Coffee and pastry combos may be available as good deals too.

Their full-service kitchen has a wide selection of bagels, wraps, salads, and pastries. We appreciate that they bake these fresh daily to preserve their crisp or flaky textures.

For us, this could also cover your breakfast, brunch, or light snack options. Plus, they have affordable choices for those with a tight budget.

But if you want other cuisines, we find it handy that there’s also a pastry house, Japanese food mart, and convenience store nearby. You may buy other savoury treats while waiting for your coffee.

In addition, we feel you can get some of our personal or professional errands done inside with their free Wi-Fi.

Outside seating at Upside Coffee is also possible, although this is very limited, with only a couple of tables and chairs for the taking.

Pros

  • Brews small batches to keep items fresh
  • Offers other types of milk and syrup
  • Provides free Wi-Fi
  • Has cheaper food options

Cons

  • Limited outside seating
  • Unavailable on the weekends
