Things You Can Do in Perth for a Very Special Birthday

Things You Can Do in Perth for a Very Special Birthday

Happy birthday to you, dear reader! A day like this only comes to you once a year, so you better make sure that you enjoy it as much as you can.

It’s a great thing for us that Perth is jam-packed with things we can do to celebrate birthdays. Let’s get into some fun activities you can do in the city to make your birthday memorable.

Enjoy outdoor activities

1. Enjoy the scenic views of Kings Park and Botanic Garden

Website: https://www.bgpa.wa.gov.au/kings-park

Address: Fraser Ave, Perth WA 6005, Australia

Contact details: +61 8 9480 3600

A good way to start a birthday celebration is to do some reflection and appreciate how far we’ve come throughout the years. Kings Park and Botanic Garden is the perfect place to do just that.

The biggest park in Perth has lots of places you can stroll around, relax, and admire the view. Some spots I recommend you check out are the Lotterywest Federation Walkway and the DNA Tower.

The botanic garden is also a great place to walk around and admire the exotic plants. Before leaving the park, take the time to sit down and rest at the State War Memorial.

Pro tip: Can’t decide or don’t know where the best places in Kings Park and Botanic Garden are? Join one of the park’s free walking tours to have the chance to see every spot in the park.

2. Go on a whale watching tour with Whale Watch Western Australia

Website: https://whalewatchwesternaustralia.com/

Address: Sardine Jetty, Fremantle WA 6160, Australia

Contact details: +61 1300 388 893

Operating hours: By reservation only

Price:

  • Adult – $90
  • Child – $55
  • Senior – $85

Let’s celebrate your birthday by joining a whale-watching tour in Fremantle. There are lots of companies in Perth that offer this service, but my favourite is Whale Watch Western Australia.

I joined some of their tours, and they were fantastic. It was breathtaking to see the massive blue whales just a few metres away from me.

The humpback whales were also a treat to watch. The way they jumped across the air and their graceful motions in the sea were memorable for me.

Pro tip: Make sure you wear a waterproof jacket before joining a tour. These whales make huge splashes, and they won’t care if you get wet!
You should also wear a pair of sunglasses and some sunscreen. Whale-sighting tours are conducted in the middle of the day.

3. Have a fun beach party at Cottesloe Beach

Address: Marine Parade, Cottesloe, Western Australia, 6011

Why not have a fun beach party with your friends down at Cottesloe Beach? A beach famous for its pristine blue water and white sand is certainly the perfect place to have some fun.

Cottesloe Beach is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and surfing. For lunch, you can visit any nearby restaurants and cafes in the area, or you can have a picnic at the nearby Cottesloe Esplanade.

Pro tip: There’s a 25-kilometre bicycle track from Cottesloe Beach to Hillary. Try it out so you can experience a relaxing bike ride along Perth’s coastline.

4. Explore the cool shipwrecks around Rottnest Island

The seas near Perth are full of shipwrecks, spanning from centuries-old wooden ships to modern cargo ships. The best way to see many of them is by snorkelling at nearby Rottnest Island.

There are actually two shipwrecks just a few metres away from the island’s shore: the Shark and Uribes. The Shark is special because it’s located at Henrietta Rocks, a place full of reefs and aquatic life.

There are still lots of shipwrecks you can discover around the island. However, some of these are too dangerous for a beginner to reach on their own.

Pro tip: Aside from snorkelling and swimming, you can tour around Rottnest Island itself. This island is home to an endangered species called the quokka, which is known to be friendly towards humans.

5. Challenge your friends to a laser tag match at Laser Corps

Website: https://lasercorps.com.au/

Address: Progress Dr, Bibra Lake WA 6163, Australia

Contact details: +61 8 6278 1233

Operating hours: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM (MON-SUN)

If you ever dreamed about trying out those FPS games in reality, then you should visit the Laser Corps in Bibra Lake. Here, you’ll get the chance to have a fun team deathmatch with your friends using harmless laser guns.

My gang and I tried out this place one time to celebrate my friend Matt’s birthday. It was super fun to try out different kinds of laser guns on varying “maps.”

Laser Corps also has its own party room, where we held my friend’s actual birthday celebration after playing.

Pro tip: Aside from Bibra Lake, Laser Corps has branches in Kalamunda and Swan Valley. Check them out if those places are closer to your home.
Laser Corps can also come to your place instead and set up a temporary play area if you can’t visit one of their branches.

How about we go on a little educational tour for your birthday? Let’s go and visit the Perth Mint, Australia’s official bullion mint and a prominent refiner of gold and other precious metals.

The best way to experience the Perth Mint is by signing up for one of their guided tours. My last visit here was awesome, as I got the chance to see the process of gold pouring live.

I also saw the largest gold coin in the world, the Kangaroo Coin. This gold coin weighs a tonne and is 99.9% gold.

Pro tip: The Perth Mint has an app called Heart of Gold Australia. Download it to experience a virtual tour of the 12 historic locations in Perth, starting at the Perth Mint and ending at Elizabeth Quay.

Let’s start the day with a hearty brunch at Little French Nest in Fremantle. Most of their menu features French favourites like baguette, gaufre, and French toast.

For drinks, they have an excellent selection of coffees, teas, and juices. I was surprised to know that they even serve some wines!

Pro tip: Try out their mushroom crepe if you want to experience something unique. I love this dish, and most of my friends who visited this restaurant loved this cool dish too!
For a complete breakfast, I recommend you pair this dish with a warm cup of espresso to get your morning started.

10. Treat yourself to a fancy dinner at Wildflower

Looking to celebrate your birthday with something fancier? Then let’s visit one of the classiest restaurants in Perth known for its unique take on indigenous dishes: the Wildflower.

This restaurant prides itself on only sourcing its ingredients from foraged goods. This ensures that all the dishes they serve are fresh and have a distinct taste.

Another unique thing about the Wildflower is its seasonal menu. Their menu changes according to the six seasons of the Noongar calendar.

Pro tip: You can rent Wildflower’s private dining room if you want to enjoy a more private birthday celebration. This dining room can seat up to 20 people and has a sweeping view of Perth.

11. Sip on cocktails with an amazing view at The Reveley

Come visit The Reveley if you want to have an amazing dinner while watching the Swan River. Located on Elizabeth Quay, this restaurant offers a varied menu inspired by international recipes.

The Reveley offers three levels of riverside dining experiences. The first is the ground floor, which is the closest to the river; the second is the dining room; and the third is the rooftop level.

The rooftop level is, in my opinion, the best way to experience The Reveley. Here, you’ll be able to sip on cocktails and enjoy a delicious dinner while having a breathtaking view of the city.

Pro tip: Visit The Reveley on Saturdays and Sundays to have a chance to try out their bottomless promo. The bottomless promo allows guests to enjoy unlimited cocktails for two hours with a three-course menu.

12. Enjoy a wine-tasting experience in Swan Valley

Aside from the excellent wines in the area, Swan Valley also features an impressive view of the Swan River. Make sure your phone is fully charged before visiting because there are lots of Instagrammable shots you can get here!
