Weave the most magnificent creations with the best yarn shops in Perth

  • Variety of yarns - We picked yarn shops that offer a wide range of yarn types, colours, and textures to inspire your projects.
  • Yarn quality - We also chose those that sell yarns made by renowned companies like Bambini, Katia, and King Cole.
  • Accessibility - We assessed whether these shops are near major roads and public transit stations. We also checked whether they’re open on most days of the week.
  • Customer service - We looked at whether their staff always treat their customers fairly and respectfully. We also evaluated whether they respond quickly to enquiries.
  • Price fairness - We also considered whether their prices are fair considering their location, the quality of their yarns, their return policies, and their average delivery times.

One of the new hobbies I picked up during the COVID lockdowns was knitting. It was a great way to turn my ideas into tangible and usable creations while cooped up inside.

Years later, my love for knitting is stronger than ever. Aside from attending knitting workshops, I frequently visit yarn shops to replenish my supplies.

I’m not gatekeeping my faves from fellow knitters! Here are my go-tos in Perth.

Yarns On Collie in Fremantle has been a beloved spot for knitting enthusiasts for over 15 years. While I can’t visit as often as I’d like due to the distance, I’ve always been impressed by their vast selection of yarns.

They offer luxurious blends like Falkland wool mixed with Mulberry silk, as well as more affordable options. You’ll find popular brands such as Patons, Katia, and King Cole, so there’s no shortage of options here.

The shop also stocks handy knitting and crochet kits, making it easy to start new projects with everything you need in one package.

Another thing I appreciate is their commitment to customer satisfaction. They have a 60-day return policy for faulty goods.

However, it’s worth mentioning that a few customers have experienced less-than-friendly service from their staff.

Pros

  • Wide variety of yarns
  • Sells knitting and crochet kits
  • 60-day return policy
  • Located near the Fremantle Markets

Cons

  • Some rude staff
  • Pricey delivery fees

One stop shop for all my knitting needs

“Thank you. Thank you. Such a well stocked shop and easy to use website. Is single point needles a dirty word these days? I had to look at about 5 online yarnshops that just weren’t that great, then I found yours. One stop shop for all my knitting needs. Thank you.”

Crossways Wool & Fabrics in Subiaco is an amazing find for anyone who enjoys shopping for yarns near the Perth CBD. As a regular visitor, I can vouch for their quality and variety.

They stock an impressive variety of yarns from brands like Patons, Panda, and Cleckheaton. For lovers of thick blankets and such, they also sell a wide variety of chunky yarns.

Furthermore, they have knitting kits that include everything you need, making crafting simple and enjoyable.

While product variety is a huge reason why I frequent this place, another key reason is their knitting workshops. I’ve picked up so many new techniques from the classes I’ve attended there.

However, be aware that their prices tend to be on the higher side. It’s worth considering other options if you’re on a budget.

      Good range of yarn

“Thea has a good range of yarn along with needles and patterns to make whatever your heart desires. She has added some higher end yarns while still retaining a full range of work horse yarns from Patons and Cleckheaton… and there’s chairs and tables nearby for yarn purchase examination and coffee!

      Well worth a visit!”

“Good range of selection to choose from even though the price was a little on the dear side. The staff were keen to help and knowledgeable.”

If you’re in Balcatta and still on the hunt for a reliable yarn source, check out Stitchers Corner. With over 45 years of experience, they are one of the oldest and most trusted sellers of yarn and fabrics in Perth.

They primarily feature products made by Gumnut Yarns, boasting an impressive collection of over 400 types. Like others, they also sell kits for those who are just starting out in the world of knitting and crocheting.

Aside from their products, I also love that they provide gift vouchers, perfect for sharing the joy of needlework with loved ones. Plus, their occasional workshops are a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and meet fellow enthusiasts.

Sadly, not all of their yarn products are stocked regularly. I recommend giving them a call first to check if they have what you need before heading over.

Another yarn shop I visit occasionally is The Teddy Tree, tucked away in Mount Hawthorn. Jennie started this cosy little haven in 2001, primarily to sell stuffed toys, Teddy bear-making kits, and a myriad of yarns.

One of the best things about this store is its undeniably vast array of yarn products. They boast over 330 different options from well-known brands like Fiddlesticks and Cleckheaton.

With such a variety, you’re bound to find the perfect yarn for any project.

Shopping here is also a breeze thanks to their efficient online store and swift delivery service. You can expect your yarns to arrive at your doorstep within just three days.

However, one downside is their prices, which can be a bit higher than average. To ease the financial pinch, I strongly recommend taking advantage of their interest-free payment plans.

          • Sells Teddy bear-making kits
