The 5 Best Tennis Coaches in Perth

  • Affordability: Prioritising budget-friendly options, we chose tennis coaches offering quality training without a hefty price tag.
  • Facilities and Equipment: We selected coaches who work on well-kept courts and roll with tennis clubs that are all about their top-notch gear. This ensures that you have the best resources at your fingertips.
  • Service: Our assessment zeroed in on coaches who go the extra mile, offering a wide scope of tennis programmes and sufficient support for a well-rounded approach.
  • Communication: Emphasising effective communication, we considered approachable and helpful coaches who made their clients’ sessions seamless throughout.

Fun fact: Australia’s tennis journey kicked off 150 years ago, bouncing through Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and Adelaide since Hobart’s first court in 1875.

Now, if you want to make your own history and be the next Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams, finding a great tennis coach is the first step.

Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up some of Perth’s best—check ’em out below!

Tennis Central is a go-to for newbies or seasoned players in Perth. We like that their adult coaching covers it all: forehand, backhand, serving, and volleys.

With the coaches, we think you could be rallying and playing matches by the third or fourth session—depending on your progress, of course.

What’s cool for us is that their adult beginner classes keep it intimate, capped at 8 students per class. This way, the coach can really dive into the technical details to get you playing at a match standard.

The coaches hired also bring a mix of local and international knowledge, which we feel boosts their credibility. And once you can hold your own on the court, you can dive into drop-in training, cardio tennis, and social comps (competitions).

During the social comps, we’d say the court becomes a social hotspot! This is where we believe you can show off your tennis moves and make some new buddies. Game, set, match—social life upgraded!

Plus, the pro shop here’s got everything too—apparel, accessories, racquets, and footwear. No need to shop around elsewhere.

Just a heads up, though. This club’s programmes are quite popular, and the coaching team is occasionally booked solid. Nonetheless, we appreciate that the staff can offer clients alternative sessions whenever possible.

Pros

  • Comprehensive coaching sessions
  • Small and focused beginner classes
  • Typically fast coaching progress
  • Well-equipped pro shop

Cons

  • Harder to book at times

InStyle has been smashing it since 2005, offering tennis coaching for all ages and skill levels in Perth.

What sets this tennis club apart, in our view, is its game-based approach. Beginners get to play while learning, focusing not just on shots but also on sportsmanship and court etiquette—all must-haves for any tennis player.

Oh, and we’ve seen their well-maintained open gardens and courts—talk about a sweet spot for every game!

We were impressed by the roster of offerings for adults as well. Cardio tennis for fitness enthusiasts, adult skills training for newbies, and the laid-back Friday ladies drop-in for a social hit. There’s something for every preference!

Another thing we appreciate is that they have well-structured adult programmes that tailor groups to your skill level, whether you’re into the social scene or eyeing a higher pennant division.

So if you can’t decide which group to pick, we’re confident they can help you!

And if you’re into pro gear, their pro shop looks like a treasure trove. They stock everything from racquets to apparel. Plus, a few clients we talked to really liked their racquet restringing service for its quick turnaround.

Still, note that Saturday afternoons and Sundays are their downtime, so make sure to plan your tennis rendezvous for the weekdays.

Pros

  • Over 18 years in the business
  • ‘Learning through play’ approach
  • Variety of personalised programmes
  • Fast restringing service

Cons

  • Limited weekend availability

Maylands Tennis Club’s location, featuring 13 grass courts and 3 hard courts, creates a backdrop with the iconic Swan River that we find very charming. We think the nearby parks and bowling club add to its overall appeal too.

We love that court availability for coaching sessions is also a breeze here. There are grass and hard courts all day and flood-lit options for night play, which we believe ensures accessibility for all.

If you’re not feeling so confident, no sweat! Their adult coaching programme provides tailored sessions and the option to create classes with friends. For us, this adds a lively social touch to the sport.

One more awesome thing—they’ve got private lessons! This gives clients a VIP treatment for improving their technique, tactics, and fitness. If you’re more of an introvert, we believe this could be your jam!

On the flip side, we’re a little iffy about the need for advance bookings all the time, particularly for the cardio tennis. While we get the whole organisation thing, we’re all about the spontaneous and fun side of the game too.

But guess what? We checked out their calendar, and there are usually loads of open slots waiting to be snagged!

Pros

  • Scenic riverside location
  • Day and night accessibility
  • Plenty of courts and available times
  • Proximity to a bowling club and parks

Cons

  • Requires advance booking

Tennis Factory’s got some serious street cred, scoring awards from Tennis West and Tennis Australia for their top-notch coaching programmes.

And let’s talk variety. From what we’ve seen, this club goes all out with programmes like tennis hot shots, cardio tennis, and primary school tennis. With tonnes of options, we believe it’s a tennis wonderland!

But check this out—while they offer coaching for both guys and gals, we believe the ladies coaching programme is their finest work.

For the ladies who prefer rocking the court with other women, we think this is your cosy spot to level up your footwork and positioning game. From beginners to intermediates, they cover the basics and throw in some fancy moves.

And if you’re thinking of bringing a buddy, yes, you may! You can choose to go solo or grab a friend for a private lesson.

Oh, and we appreciate this club for giving free trials to both kiddos and adults. For us, it’s the perfect chance to get a taste of the coaching scene without denting your wallet!

But while they’ve got these 10-week programmes that promise top-notch results, the rates here are a teensy more expensive compared to other Perth tennis coaches on our list.

Still, we’re happy with how the staff breaks down their fees. Clear costs and booking info for cardio, drills, and private lessons—no surprises there.

Pros

  • Award-winning for years
  • Specialised ladies coaching programme
  • Transparent with fees
  • Offers free trials

Cons

  • Pricier than others

Looking for something a bit more intense? Total Tennis’ cardio sessions are like fitness parties led by experienced coaches, if that’s what you’re after.

We’re also happy that there are coaching programmes from beginner to advanced, covering all the ABCs of tennis. Not only that, but Total Tennis also seems legit when it comes to coaching kids.

Affiliated with local schools like Floreat Park Primary, City Beach Primary, and the International School of Western Australia, it seems like a real go-to spot for the little ones.

And even if you’re a parent, you can still hit the court! The ladies group coaching includes crèche (childcare) services for just $10 per child. We believe you can make Fridays your tennis day, even with the little ones tagging along!

It’s amazing for us that this tennis club can cater to both early birds and night owls midweek too. No more excuses for not getting into your tennis groove!

If you’re really serious, we suggest trying out the one-on-one sessions. It’s a chance to fine-tune your shots or level up your game with expert guidance from the coaches.

The only hiccup? They’ve got a small team—just 3 coaches at the moment. For us, that could mean limited slots, though we think it’s still worth a shot. Just be savvy and book ahead if you’re interested!

Pros

  • Flexible day and night sessions
  • Babysitting services
  • Kid-friendly environment

Cons

  • Limited slots with few coaches
