Hours: Class-based schedule
Learning to sew can feel daunting, but stepping into a fully equipped studio makes getting started much easier.
Studio Thimbles offers beginner-friendly sewing courses with all the materials and tools you need, so you won’t have to buy an expensive sewing machine right away.
One client we spoke with recently joined their introductory garment construction class and said the small group setup made it easy to get support. The instructor also gave quick feedback on their stitching technique, which helped build their confidence.
From there, students can move through structured courses covering social sewing and more complex alterations.
Best of all, the studio welcomes both kids and adults, making the classes accessible to different age groups.
However, the range is fairly focused on sewing, so people looking for creative classes in areas like painting may need to look elsewhere.
Supportive atmosphere, great instruction and interesting projects
Supportive atmosphere, great instruction and interesting projects- the perfect place to learn to sew. Olga is great and a wealth of knowledge- I loved my classes at Studio Thimbles. I was a complete beginner- never touched a sewing machine before I started- and I always felt I was given excellent support and coaching to succeed, and most importantly, enjoy the process of sewing. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn to sew!

Best decision I made this year
Absolutely loved my sewing classes. Best decision I made this year. I can’t believe I have made my own apron, skirt and now dress! I have so much more confidence and skill now in sewing and mending projects at home. The teachers are fantastic, patient and helpful. I looked forward to the class every week.

The studio offers a wide range of events, including beautiful bridal showers, school holiday programs, and team-building sessions.
This welcoming space goes far beyond just teaching art basics. They also provide highly practical studio services like equipment hire and kiln firing for independent artists.
Plus, you get free two-hour street parking on weekdays, and the studio sits just a short walk from Leederville Train Station.
But keep in mind that their office stays completely closed from Saturday to Monday, and collecting your finished pottery takes several weeks.
Would definitely recommend!
What fun! I attended a stained glass workshop and had a great time. It was well organised and had everything I needed, including some tasty snacks. 🤭 It was fun working through the process and I was pleasantly surprised with the final product- some new plant friends. It’s a beautiful space and everyone was so friendly. Would definitely recommend!

She took the time to help everyone individually
My wife and I attended a pottery class and had an absolutely wonderful time. The instructor was fantastic — very knowledgeable and great at explaining how to use the wheel, throw clay and create different shapes. She took the time to help everyone individually and offered plenty of useful tips and advice along the way.

3. Malini Parker Visual Artist and Art Classes Perth

Website: https://maliniparker.com/
Address: Perth
Contact: [email protected]
Hours: Seasonal workshop schedule
Malini Parker, a scientist-turned-artist, leads beginner art classes with a distinctive and purpose-driven teaching style. Her unique background adds a thoughtful depth to the experience that you won’t always find in casual hobby classes.
Her step-by-step lessons are designed for complete beginners and curious dabblers who want to build confidence quickly. She also offers a personalised four-month creative mentoring program for those who want more guidance.
This setup works especially well for busy adults who can’t commit to weekly lessons but still want structured, meaningful coaching.
But because the workshops run seasonally instead of weekly, finding a consistent schedule can be tricky.
Additionally, the classes focus heavily on expressive abstract painting, so they may not suit anyone looking to explore a wider range of art styles.
I’m looking forward to my next workshop!
I’ve attended a few of Malini’s workshops and they are AMAZING! A relaxing and enjoyable day (or weekend), and you come away with beautiful paintings that you never knew you could do! Her style of teaching is warm and friendly, and she really brings out the creativity within you. I’m looking forward to my next workshop!

Malini is funny, warm, reassuring, kind, bursting with love and a constant source of encouragement throughout the class
Malini’s art workshops are unique. I’ve attended them myself and they are so much more than what you would imagine – they are deeply fulfilling and inspiring. At first I was a bit worried about painting as I don’t consider myself a creative or an artistic painter. It’s just not my strong suit. But taking a workshop with Malini is a transformational experience. Malini is funny, warm, reassuring, kind, bursting with love and a constant source of encouragement throughout the class.

Address: 15 Halley Road, Balcatta
Contact: [email protected] | 0414 673 691
Hours: Book to schedule an appointment
Collective Obsessions acts as a massive creative hub that provides open studio access alongside wildly diverse medium exploration. They teach vibrant acrylic flow, alcohol ink, water marbling, and intricate wood burning.
The friendly instructors welcome complete beginners and encourage hands-on, messy experimentation. You can also join their open studio membership, which gives you ongoing access to professional materials and equipment.
This flexible option is especially useful if you want a dedicated space to practise between workshops. For group activities, you can book their interactive classes for hen parties or corporate team-building events.
However, the wide range of membership options can feel confusing at first. To add, some classes use strong-smelling materials, such as resin and alcohol ink, which may not suit people sensitive to strong odours.
Big thumbs up to all staff 👍👍👍👍👍
I love that I can work at my own pace with one on one instruction and attention, while focusing on my art. I’ve been inspired through colour exploration and various techniques to expand and grow in my art journey. Collective Obsessions is a safe space where I am made to feel at home, and free to express myself visually and experientially. Playing with interactive art has become my colour therapy!! Big thumbs up to all staff 👍👍👍👍👍

A really fun evening creating some resin artworks with family
A really fun evening creating some resin artworks with family. And as someone without a creative bone in my body, I really enjoyed it! The instructors were great- very clear directions, and super friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a different activity to do as a date night, or just with friends.

Jenny gave so much encouragement and help along the way
It was a fantastic collage workshop. Jenny was so helpful from the design stage to putting the collage together. Jenny gave so much encouragement and help along the way. She is very knowledgeable.
