Pros
- Only uses fresh ingredients
- Reasonable prices
- High-quality food
Cons
- Small dining area
- Long wait times
Grand Lane Fish House proclaims itself as having the best fish and chips in town, which a lot of their customers seem to agree with. If you are on the lookout for one of the tastiest seafood in town, they’re definitely worth checking out.
Situated in an alleyway behind Barrack Street, this small yet unique seafood restaurant has garnered high popularity because of the quality of their fish and chips.
They prepare the fresh ingredients in-house before the day starts, with each potato cut by hand and each fish battered perfectly. Their fish and chips are cooked twice so as to really give the dishes a savoury and mouthwatering smell.
Some customers have told us that Grand Lane Fish House’s old-school way of preparing fish and chips really captures the way it’s done back in the UK.
If you’re not really a fan of fish and chips, then they also have other meals available on the menu like New Zealand hoki fish fillet, barramundi, and even prawn tacos.
The best part is that you can eat one of Perth’s tastiest fish and chips for reasonable prices here. A regular serving of fish and chips will only cost you AUD 4.50.
The only real downside to Grand Lane Fish House is their amenities. Their dining space is too small, especially with the popularity they’ve gained throughout recent months.
Having a high number of customers, especially for a small restaurant, is awesome, but it may turn off new customers since the wait times can be too long, especially on busier days.

Pros
- Friendly and accommodating staff
- Excellent food quality
- Easy online reservation system
Cons
- Above-average prices
- Long wait times
TheCray Seafood & Grill Restaurant offers excellent almost 5-star-like food quality in a restaurant setting that is more accessible for most residents and tourists of Perth.
Their menu is certainly quite impressive thanks to the large variety of meals they have available. While they still heavily feature seafood, they also have other meals on offer like chicken curry and spaghetti.
If you are a fan of seafood yet don’t actually know the food preferences of those you will be eating with, TheCray Seafood & Grill Restaurant is certainly one of the safer options to go with.
Aside from their large menu, you and your friends may appreciate the customer service in this restaurant. A lot of their customers love the warm welcome they’ve been given by the staff as well as their attentiveness to any requests.
When it comes to the food itself, TheCray doesn’t disappoint. Large servings of freshly prepared food are one of their biggest strengths, which, despite being pricy, a lot of their customers still enjoy nonetheless.
Another big positive with them is their reservation system. Making a reservation in TheCray is so easy thanks to their online reservation which only requires you to pick a schedule on their website and can be done in a few minutes.
However, as stated earlier, their prices tend to be higher than average. If you don’t want to spend too much on a quality seafood meal, then it might be best to look elsewhere.
Another downside to TheCray is that they tend to have issues following up on orders during busier hours of the day. Some customers have expressed disappointment that they had to wait for more than an hour for their meal.
3. Clancy’s Fish Pub

- Dine-in
- Takeout
Hours Available:

Pros
- Live music performance
- Great seaside view
- Fresh ingredients daily
Cons
- Inconsistent food quality
- Above-average price
Clancy’s Fish Pub is one of the best places to hang out in Perth thanks to its amazing scenery, good food, and live performances.
Located in City Beach, Clancy’s Fish Pub has an excellent seaside view for its customers to enjoy both during the day and at night.
If City Beach is too far from you, then they also have other branches in Canning Bridge, Fremantle, and Dunsborough.
They have many foods available which are made using only the freshest ingredients. All of their fish is bought daily from the nearby fish market.
Some of their most known dishes are the seafood platter, which is a hearty mix of battered snappers, prawn skewers, oysters, squids, etc., and the grilled barramundi with chips, which is a favourite among customers.
Besides good food and an amazing view, Clancy’s Fish Pub also offers a live band performance on most days of the week. If you are a fan of jazz and Latin music, then you can swing by their restaurant sometime for a listen while eating great food.
However, customers have pointed out that their food is too pricey when compared to other seafood places. The seafood platter mentioned earlier is priced at AUD 75, which is certainly a bit expensive for what you get.
Also, some customers seem unsatisfied with the quality of the food they got.
While most seem to love the seafood Clancy’s Fish Pub delivers, it’s still something to be noted that a small yet noticeable portion of their customers doesn’t find the food good.
4. Madalenas Bar
Services Offered: Dine-in

12:00 NN – 12:00 MN (FRI-SUN)
Closed on MON and TUES

Pros
- All ingredients locally sourced
- Dietary options available
- Has its own bar with many wine options
Cons
- No delivery and takeout
- Above-average price
Madalenas Bar offers a unique dining experience most seafood restaurants can’t provide thanks to their 2-storey establishment, which has the seafood restaurant on the first floor and a proper bar on the second floor.
Eating the chef’s special with a special wine can certainly bring a unique atmosphere other seafood restaurants can’t simply provide. They have many kinds of seafood available like oysters, tunas, and sardines.
Aside from seafood, they also have vegetarian meal options and can also accommodate requests for alternative ingredients if you are allergic to some.
The one thing we really appreciate about Madalenas Bar is their commitment to working only with local producers and fishermen.
Their ingredients are bought from local farmers and Fins Seafood, which is a socially conscious fish supplier that works with the fishermen and farmers of Western Australia.
Madalenas Bar also maintains its own kitchen garden, ensuring that only the freshest meals will be served on your table.
Madalenas Bar also offers a wide range of alcoholic drinks at prices not far from what you pay at a typical bar.
However, please be aware that they don’t allow or offer any takeout or delivery. If you want to experience their delicious meals, you’ll need to visit their restaurant itself.
Another downside is that customers find that the prices are too high for the portion size they get. Some have even told us that they left the establishment still hungry despite paying a good amount.
5. Kailis Fishmarket Cafe

Pros
- Has one of the largest seafood platters in Western Australia
- Wide range of seafood on menu
- Beautiful waterfront location
Cons
- Inconsistent food quality
- High prices
Kailis Fishmarket Cafe offers a great seaside view while serving you some of the largest seafood platters in the whole Western Australia.
One of the most famous restaurants in Perth, Kailis Fishmarket Cafe is strategically located in Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, which allows it to give its customers a heck of a view of both the sea and the ships in the harbour.
Aside from the spectacular view, Kailis Fishmarket Cafe also attempts to make a mark on the map by introducing some of the largest platters we’ve ever seen.
Known as the Holy Ship Platter, this large seafood platter is composed of many different types of seafood like oysters, prawns, lobsters, fried fish, scallops, and cuttlefish. This can feed up to eight people and costs AUD 480.
Kailis Fishmarket Cafe also has a lot of other meals available aside from their well-renowned fish platters. These dishes are prepared mainly in three different ways: fried, barbecued, and raw.
With such a wide range of seafood on their menu, it’s no surprise why Kailis Fishmarket Cafe has such a high number of customers every day.
There are still some downsides, however. One is that probably because of the very high number of customers they have to serve every day, there are some cases of their food quality dropping lower than what is expected.
Another downside to them is the high prices of their food on the menu, which some customers have jokingly referred to as tourist prices. If the waterfront aesthetic doesn’t really catch your attention, it might be better to look elsewhere for seafood.
