Amenities
Aside from having good screens and speakers, movie theatres must also provide comfortable seats, food and drinks, and good restrooms to further enhance the customer’s movie experience.

Pros
- 10 movie screens allowing for more options
- Competitive prices
- Excellent visual and sound quality
- Wide array of restaurants available around the theatre
Cons
- Unenthusiastic staff
- Lack of railing or support on walkways
The Reading Cinema in Belmont offers some of the best film viewing experience in Perth. The screens and sound systems they use are some of the most advanced we’ve seen.
They offer four types of viewing experience: Standard, Premium, Gold, and Titan XC. Their Gold and Titan XC viewings offer a unique experience for an added cost.
The Gold service offers wide and spacious reclining seats with waiter service and a gourmet menu during the movie. This service offers a unique one-of-a-kind experience which should be tried at least once.
Meanwhile, if you are a fan of stadium seating and a screen bigger than normal, then the Titan XC experience might suit you.
With a bigger and clearer screen, you’ll be able to appreciate the movie more compared to viewing it on a normal theatre screen.
Having 10 screens available allows them to show all the newest popular movies being released while also showing indie films during the weeks when there aren’t too many new films being released.
Their prices are also reasonable for the service they offer, with their Standard movie experience priced at AUD 14 on average. Of course, more premium viewings like the Gold Lounge will be more expensive though.
Another positive point of Reading Cinema is the number of restaurants available around them. Planning a date or an outing with friends and family is easy to do since you can immediately go straight to a nearby restaurant after watching a movie.
We are also happy to report that they offer free parking services to their customers.
However, some of their patrons have complained about the attitude of their staff. There are some cases when they aren’t enthusiastic to help customers with their concerns and some theatre rooms aren’t supervised well.
While it might not be a huge downside, the lack of railings beside the walkways of their theatres can be an inconvenience to some people who have difficulties walking in the dark.

- Full reclining seats

Pros
- Excellent food quality
- Friendly and approachable staff
- All seats are reclining chairs
Cons
- Some facilities are poorly maintained
- Platinum service theatre screens smaller than competitors
Palace Cinemas offers a unique movie viewing experience with their Art Deco aesthetic and wide array of featured movies of both mainstream and arthouse movies. They can appeal to most moviegoers!
A prime example of their desire to deliver a quality viewing experience is their seats. All of their seats can be fully reclined thanks to the wide spacing they provide to each customer.
In addition, many customers praise their excellent in-house food. You have no need to worry about planning what to eat during the movie, as they can guarantee you the best meal to have while watching.
Another advantage they offer is their excellent staff who are experienced and friendly. Many customers love the service their staff provides and their ability to cater to most requests.
Viewers who want to experience more comfort and immersion can avail of their Platinum Theatre Service. This service offers a more personalised experience with the screen and sound system being closer to you.
However, a downside of Palace Cinemas is the deteriorating state of its amenities. Some customers have expressed concerns about some AC units failing to work and some reclining chairs being too squeaky and uneven.
Another yet less serious downside is the small screens their Platinum Service have. This can be a turnoff for some people who watch movies in a theatre expecting premium service with the biggest screen they can watch a movie on.
3. HOYTS

- Free rewards system
- HOYTS Xtremescreen

Pros
- Offers closed caption services on all movies
- Has a reward system for loyal customers
- Helpful and attentive staff
Cons
- Poor customer support
- Pricy movie tickets
HOYTS Cinema offers an excellent viewing experience thanks to their quality service and amenities that improve the comfort of their customers, especially those who are hard of hearing.
A unique feature of HOYTS we are excited to try is their CaptiView Closed Captioning feature.
This is a little gadget that you can fit in the cup holder of your seat which features an LED display that will show the captions only for the patron who has the CaptiView.
It’s understandable that not everyone is a fan of subtitles and captions being displayed on the screen itself, so we find this compromise acceptable and helpful especially for viewers who have hearing issues.
They still show movies with full subtitles and captions but only at specific times, which you can find on their website.
HOYTS Cinema also has its own rewards program which is quite generous especially since it’s a free offering to their loyal customers.
The rewards program includes discounts for ticket purchases, free popcorn refills, and more. You can also avail of their VIP rewards program which offers more freebies and discounts for a nominal yearly fee.
Viewers who want to enjoy their movies on a really big screen can appreciate HOYTS’ Xtremescreen theatres which offer some of the biggest movie screens and best sound systems in Perth.
Another big plus with HOYTS is their friendly and approachable staff. Many customers praise their staff for being attentive and always ready to help with any concerns during a movie session.
However, there are some issues with HOYTS Cinema that need to be discussed. One is that many customers find their telephone customer support disappointing.
Inquiries about movie schedules or other concerns are oftentimes incorrectly answered or forgotten.
Another downside is the price of their tickets. The ticket price for an adult is currently AUD 22, which is certainly not cheap.
4. Luna Cinemas
Features Offered:
- Art Deco architecture
- Features lesser-known films
- Personalised closed captioning option
Hours Available: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM
(Hours dependent on current movie schedules)

Pros
- More oriented towards independent and less-known films
- Impressive architecture and theatre design
- Excellent food service
Cons
- Smaller cinemas
- Pricy movie tickets
Luna Cinemas is the perfect option for cinephiles who want more than what is trending and mainstream. Their Art Deco architecture and showing of lesser-known films can take their viewers on a fun and unique experience.
Opened in 1927, Luna Cinema has been a well-renowned cinema in Perth throughout the decades and has decided to keep its unique identity rather than change everything to fit into the modern world.
Their theatre rooms have remained mostly unchanged throughout the years, but they’ve modernised their amenities to meet modern standards.
If you are a fan of independent films, then you are in luck. Luna Cinemas prefers to reserve their theatres to indie and arthouse films, unlike their competitors.
They also screen classic films from time to time for those who want to explore older films.
Many customers praise the food they offer as some of the best they’ve tasted in a cinema. People who can’t watch a movie without a snack in their hand will appreciate the unique experience Luna Cinemas can offer when it comes to food.
However, a downside of Luna Cinemas is the smaller sizes of their theatres.
Since most of the original architecture remains untouched, the size of their cinema remains smaller compared to other movie houses, which can be disappointing for people who want a bigger screen.
Their ticket prices also tend to lean on the pricier side, with adult tickets costing as much as AUD 21.50 per person. Thankfully, they offer discounts for students and senior citizens.

Pros
- Uses latest technology for their movie screenings
- High-quality amenities
Cons
- Pricy food options
- Pricy movie tickets
Grand Cinemas in Warwick uses the latest technology to augment the viewing experience of their viewers. If you want the crispest video and audio for your movie, then Grand Cinemas is surely worth a try.
All their movies are in 4k resolution, which is currently the best resolution widely available today. They also use Dolby Atmos Sound, which offers an immersive sound experience.
In addition to their commitment to using the newest technology for their film showing, they also offer some of the best seating we’ve seen.
All of their seats are leather chairs. Many customers have praised the excellent quality of their chairs which offers comfort not commonly found among standard service cinemas.
They also provide premium services for those who want to experience more luxurious movie watching.
Their Gold Lounge not only offers more legroom for their customers but also a private lounge and gourmet menu so that you can enjoy a good meal while watching your movie.
However, many customers seem to dislike the prices of the food they offer. Some have pointed out that the price they demand for their food is too expensive for its quality.
Their tickets are also pretty expensive. An adult ticket for the standard screening costs AUD 23.
