Pros
- Lively yet cosy ambience
- Good variety in menu
- Reasonable prices
- Generous serving sizes
Cons
- Menu can change without prior notice
- Complaints on service
- May not accommodate special dietary requests
El Publico is considered by many diners as their favourite Mexican restaurant in Perth, and it’s for good reason. Other than the good variety in their menu, the restaurant’s interior is a good combination of lively and cosy.
They’re most popular for their chicken quesadillas and cochinita tacos, and we love how their dishes don’t hold back on the spice—unless you request otherwise, of course.
We also like their generous serving sizes, especially in relation to their prices. A single serving doesn’t go over $20 unless you order their mixed grill or their four-course meal that’s $60 per head.
You must note, however, their menu can change without prior notice, so if you have some favourites on their menu, it’s best to call beforehand to see if it’s available.
They may also not be able to accommodate special dietary requests, and while they have some vegetarian and vegan options, they may not be able to modify dishes upon request.
Furthermore, they can’t assure you that their dishes won’t be cross-contaminated with possible allergens.
This has caused multiple diners to complain, claiming that their requests were not accommodated. Unfortunately, when they reported this to the restaurant’s management, they were unhelpful and didn’t respond politely.
Because of this, we suggest that it may be better to dine somewhere else if you want to enjoy Mexican food but have special dietary needs that need to be accommodated.

Pros
- Good variety in menu
- Has extensive wine and bar menu
- Fun ambience
- Friendly staff
Cons
- No phone number
- Limited menu for vegans and vegetarians
- Inconsistent quality of food
- Can be busy during weekends
La Cholita is the place to go if you’re looking for a place to wind down and have a meal with friends. We like how you can get bowls of guac and tacos with the option to get sangria by the litre or wine by the bottle.
This environment means that they attract quite a crowd during weekends, so if you’re looking to dine during the weekend, it’s best to make a reservation beforehand.
However, they don’t have a phone number, so you’ll have to make a reservation on their website. Fortunately, the process is relatively straightforward through their online portal.
We like the variety in their menu, although they have more items for the wine and bar menu. They have multiple cocktails, beer, and wine options available as well as sangria.
Their most extensive bar options, however, are for their tequila. You can choose between blanco, reposado, and añejo, with each category having different liquor choices.
They are a little expensive, especially considering their serving size. While customers do like their guac and tapas, we have found that the quality of their food tends to be inconsistent.
Regular diners have noticed this too, claiming that their go-to dishes aren’t served in the same quality on their visits.
Furthermore, they also don’t have a lot of options for vegans and vegetarians, unless you’re fine to go for safe menu items such as guac and queso quesadillas.
3. La Cabaña
Specialties: Margaritas, corn cobettes
Website: https://www.lacabana.com.au/

Business Hours:

Pros
- Has indoor and alfresco dining options
- Pets allowed
- Friendly staff
- Casual ambience
Cons
- No reservations
- Tends to be busy
- Inconsistent quality of food
- Limited menu
La Cabaña is a favourite option among families and pet owners alike because of their alfresco dining option. However, you’re also free to dine indoors if that’s what you prefer.
We like their casual ambience, and this attracts large crowds on most days but especially during weekends. Furthermore, they also don’t accept reservations, so it’s possible that you may have to wait to be seated.
Thus, if you’re unwilling to wait or don’t want to dine in a restaurant that’s almost always full, it’s best to look elsewhere. But if an energetic ambience is exactly what you’re looking for, then this is the place for you.
Because they tend to be busy on most days, this has led to an inconsistent quality of food being served. We didn’t hear complaints about service being slow, so this may affect the quality of the food while they’re being prepared.
They’re unlike other Mexican restaurants. That is their dishes are not exactly traditional Mexican cuisine but rather have Western Australian influences.
They also don’t have as many options on their food menu, so we encourage you to check it out before dining here. But if you’re coming in for drinks, they do have a pretty good selection of cocktails and wines to choose from.
That makes them a perfect place for some after-work drinks with your mates. Just be sure to check the prices beforehand, as they don’t exactly come cheap.
4. Pancho’s Mexican Villa
Specialties: Tacos, nachos, enchiladas

Pros
- Extensive menu
- Fast service
- Good for families
- Has vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options
Cons
- Tends to be busy
- Inconsistent quality of food
- Mixed reviews on service
Pancho’s Mexican Villas has been in business for over 40 years and has been a favourite for many diners. They’re perfect for families for their extensive menu, which means there will always be something available for kids who are picky eaters.
They’re also great for events like birthdays and gatherings because they have banquet menus complete with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
That said, they have an extensive menu. This is mostly an advantage, but their menu can be difficult to navigate, especially for first-time diners.
Furthermore, the sheer number of dishes on their menu has compromised the level of quality of their food.
They do tend to be busy on most days, but based on customer feedback, service is almost always quick. However, it’s possible that the rush to get food out promptly also contributes to the inconsistent quality of food.
This has also led to some complaints about service. Some diners do raise their complaints to the restaurant staff, and unfortunately, we’ve heard multiple diners claim that the staff didn’t welcome the feedback or were unhelpful.
We do think their prices are good considering their portion sizes, but because of the complaints we heard regarding food quality, we think they can improve on this aspect.
Overall, they’re a good choice when dining with a large crowd, but if you want the assurance that you’ll be served good quality food, it may be best to look elsewhere.

Pros
- Accommodates special dietary needs
- Offers healthy options
- Uses fresh ingredients
- Generous servings
Cons
- Limited beverage options
- Poor customer service
If you’re looking to enjoy Mexican food while still sticking to your diet, Guzman y Gomez is the place to go.
They offer healthier options for traditional Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos, and nachos. On top of that, they only use fresh ingredients and don’t add any artificial flavours to their food.
Customers like their burrito bowl best, although you’re still free to enjoy your burritos the traditional way. We also like their affordable prices, which is great considering their generous serving sizes and quality of food.
We appreciate how they do their best to accommodate special dietary requests and practise hygienic kitchen habits to avoid cross-contamination between allergens.
If they’re unable to accommodate your dietary requests, they’re transparent and will tell you their limitations. We value this honesty, especially for those who have severe allergies to certain ingredients.
They have several options available for those who have special dietary needs, such as salads and veg tacos. However, they don’t have as many options for beverages, and they’re limited to mostly beer and margaritas.
They’re not known for their beverages, so we don’t take this against them. Their ambience reflects this too, as it brings out a modern and almost hipster vibe for a Mexican restaurant.
The most worrying complaint we heard about was regarding their customer service. Unfortunately, many customers complained about the restaurant’s staff being unfriendly and sometimes rude.
If you’d like to avoid this service, ordering their food online and having it delivered to your home is an option you can take.
