5 Best Grocery Stores in Perth for Fresh Finds, Recommended by a Local (AKA Me)

  • Produce Freshness - I selected stores that regularly sell fresh produce from local farms, especially fruits, veggies, meat, and poultry.
  • Variety of Goods - I chose stores that sell a wide variety of goods, including imported items that are not readily available in other stores. These include gourmet imported raw cooking materials, tropical fruits, and seasonal veggies.
  • Location Convenience - I chose stores that are located within the city centre of Perth or at least 15 minutes away. I made sure to include stores that are also open daily or 24/7 for anyone who needs urgent shopping.
  • Deals and Promotions - I selected stores that offer deals and promotions, especially on their online store for grocery deliveries.

Out of all the chores and errands I do regularly, grocery shopping may be my favourite. I love browsing through the aisles, taking my time as I search for new things to try at home.

If you’re like me who loves grocery shopping, here are my best recommendations. They offer a diverse range of goodies for you to try, and I swear by the freshness, quality, and value for money!

My family has shopped at Woolworths for as long as I can remember. As one of the largest grocery chains in Perth and Australia as a whole, it offers the convenience of having almost everything we need, which is why my parents still shop there.

One of their favourite things about Woolworths is that they can shop for anything they may need from their mobile phones. My parents aren’t the most tech-savvy, but the mobile application is very user-friendly.

Plus, they get to score deals and discounts on select items if they shop online. The only caveat is that for certain products, such as milk and toilet paper, customers are only allowed to purchase two packs at a time.

If they ever need to drop by the physical store, Woolworths has multiple locations around the city. There’s a Woolworths in almost every district in Perth, making shopping for essentials super convenient for any resident (my parents included!).

They’re often very crowded, though, especially on Sundays!

Pros

  • Has an online store
  • Multiple locations

Cons

  • Always crowded
  • Has a product limit of 2 packs per customer

Convenient location

“Woolworths is my go-to grocery store in the city. It’s conveniently located and always stocked with fresh produce and a wide range of products. The staff are friendly and helpful, making shopping here a breeze. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality groceries in the heart of Perth.”

Clean facilities and fresh groceries

“Clean and lots of varieties of groceries, vegetables, fruits, poultry, meat&seafood items both frozen and fresh, fresh bakery items, Asian condiments, ready to eat frozen foods and self billing facility.”

The Re Store is my go-to for gourmet goods whenever I feel like indulging a bit now and then. The store has all sorts of imported European goods like wines, spirits, cheeses, oils, and produce that you won’t find in local grocery stores.

I usually drop by whenever I want to build my own cheese board or cook up a new recipe with gourmet ingredients. Their products are all imported, so the hefty price tags are not surprising.

I don’t mind paying a little more than I should for, let’s say, a bottle of olive oil, though. The quality of their products is consistently good, and they showcase new wines and spirits now and then.

My concern is that I always have to research products during my visits. Many lack English translations, and the staff doesn’t explain the goods on display (they’re usually busy entertaining regulars).

Pros

  • Best for gourmet European goods
  • Specialises in European fine wines and spirits

Cons

  • Pricey goods
  • Unhelpful customer service

Niche European products available

“Great variety of Italian food and grocery, Especially handmade pasta and cheese has a great selection. Some very niche products are available like dried porcini.”

Spoilt for choice

“This store is jam-packed with Italian food produce. It also holds local and international wines and offers made to order rolls, which are delicious. Staff are super friendly, and prices are reasonable. Be warned, though out can get super busy, especially on weekends. Enjoy!”

I love buying fresh fruits from Golden Choice Fresh Market because they sell locally sourced goods. You can buy in bulk and enjoy wholesale prices!

I love baking, so buying ingredients like apples, berries, bananas, and all sorts of fresh vegetables (seasonal or not) is like a baker’s paradise at Golden Choice. Aside from locally sourced goods, they also sell tropical fruits and Asian veggies, which are typically hard to find in local grocery stores (and they’re also not that expensive!).

If fresh isn’t what you’re after, they also have an aisle lined with frozen food like buns, dumplings, and more to take home.

Parking is a nightmare, though, and the location is inconvenient due to the small space. It’s best to come on foot and early in the morning to avoid crowds and long queues.

Pros

  • Best for fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Sells unique tropical goods

Cons

  • Parking nearby is difficult
  • Usually crowded

Pocket-friendly goods

“As an international student in Perth, this is the most pocket friendly grocery store for me. Not only the convenient pricing, this store also offers exclusive collection of fresh tropical fruits and Asian vegetables which might be difficult to find in other supermarkets. They have a wide collection of items starting from breakfast cereals, lentils, flours, noodles, all Asian spices and sauces to eggs, vegetables, fruits, frozen Asian food and much more. Located in the heart of Subiaco, this is also easily accessible by public transport. They have free parking spots just outside and even street parking nearby.”

Soumi Chatterjee, Google Review

Wide selection of items

“This is the place to be for all your fruits and vegetable needs! Some tropical and Asian spices and frozen ingredients you can buy from this shop. Good parking as well just in front of the store or nearby in the street parking. Great selection of fresh and also bargained items for not-so-fresh goods. If you crave for that tropical fruit like green mangoes, longgan and other sweets and dessert, you can definitely find them here!”

The Good Grocer is one of the few 24/7 grocery stores in Perth. For fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and more, I rely on it for healthier midnight snacks.

And because they’re open 24/7, I don’t usually see lots of crowds late at night, making browsing and shopping quite therapeutic because I don’t have to be in a rush (no staff member chasing me away).

Their goods are fresh, but the selection isn’t as diverse as other stores. It’s great for everyday essentials or a healthy snack when others are closed, but not ideal for bulk buyers or those loyal to specific brands.

You can shop on their website and either pick up your order later or have it delivered. It’s quick, easy, and convenient, though you have to trust the staff to choose the freshest goods for you (unless you give them very specific instructions).

Pros

  • Open 24/7
  • Accepts pick-ups and delivery

Cons

  • Pricey goods
  • Produce selection isn’t diverse or wide

Great for everyday essentials

“This is our local and we’re totally chuffed! Recently had a name change from IGA to The Good Grocer, it’s also had a revamp and looks fantastic!

The fresh local produce is fab! Plenty of pre packed salads and fruit. There are also quite a few premade in house meals ready to go. I love their roast selection with a variety of roasted meats and veggies to choose from. The seafood section’s great too! There’s a lovely florist in store who is super friendly and helpful, heck there’s even a bottle shop section!”

SEENWA, Google Review

Open anytime you need something

“What’s not to love? Definitely an IGA for a richer suburb, you pay more, but correspondingly they stock better stuff, a lot of which simply cannot be found elsewhere. They keep it fresh by changing the store layout every so often. Open any time you need it. Checkout is managed well enough. Even though I no longer live nearby I have never regretted taking a trip down here.”

If you’re a vegetarian or vegan or are trying to switch diets, Growers Lane has a selection of fresh produce for you.

They’re known for their vegan-friendly and vegetarian deli inside, but you can also purchase produce if you prefer to whip up your favourite meal at home.

All their fresh produce is 100% Australian-grown, supporting local farmers. The fruits and veggies are farm-direct, and the meats are organic.

Growers Lane is easy to navigate, with organised items and well-maintained aisles that match its high-end aesthetic. Shopping here is pleasant and accessible, but visit early in the week, as some items run out by the weekend.

Staff members are helpful, but I’ve had some encounters with an unfriendly few. Luckily, it’s easy to browse for stuff on your own here!

Pros

  • Convenient location
  • Well-organised and maintained displays
  • Specialises in farm-direct and organic goods

Cons

  • Some products are usually out of stock
  • Complaints about unfriendly staff

Gourmet goods at affordable prices

“Just found out yesterday. Great quality fruit and vegetables. Price is definitely cheaper than supermarket. It’s like gourmet grocers and continental shop tucked into 1 place but they try their to keep price ungourmet.”

LLL, Google Review

Well-maintained grocery store

“Don’t let the high end appearance fool you. They offer a great range of fruits and vegetables at very god prices. We used to go to another place around the corner but it was convenient and well priced. But it got way too crowded. Hard to get around and long queues at the checkouts. Growers lane’s prices are pretty much the same. But it’s so much easier to get around and park.”
