Find your rhythm at the best dance schools in Perth
My mom used to tell me that I had two left feet when I started dancing at 4 years old. However, when she saw that I was determined to dance seriously, she took me to dance classes after school every day. I attended for five years and don’t regret my time there because I learned a lot about balance, flexibility, and posture at a young age.
If you’re like little me, a little intimidated but still determined to dance, I looked into dance schools offering different styles! Explore various genres to find the one that you can groove to.

Jody Marshall Dance Company is one of the longest-running dance schools in Perth, teaching all sorts of dance classes for all ages since 1972.
The dance school is a household name for mainly jazz, contemporary, ballet, and tap dance classes, but they also offer hip-hop, musical theatre, and acrobatics.
One of their highlight classes is body conditioning. This class is designed for students or athletes who want to strengthen their bodies for more advanced dance positions and steps.
The class is perfect for retired dancers to maintain strength and coordination and offers adult dance classes at your own pace. Additionally, their ballet academy provides weekly classes for boys and girls from primary to 6th grade, preparing them for the CTSD exam.
Because of their professional ballet academy, they are known to have strict teachers. Uniforms are also required and must be bought from the studio, which is usually pricier than what you can get at a normal dance store.
Pros
- All teachers have dance diplomas
- Teaching dance for over 40 years
Cons
- Strict teachers
- Requires pricey uniform

“I can highly recommend JMDC, my daughter has danced here for 5 years. The teaching is to a professional quality with a fantastic focus on technique, all while being fun and making great friendships. The end of year concerts are amazing and I especially like the age appropriateness of the routines and costuming.”

If you’re thinking about breaking into show business as a professional dancer, then training under The Dance Collective will give you better chances of getting a spotlight.
The dance school is a main supplier of dancers and choreographers to events companies, television productions, and media companies. Training under the school also exposes you to teachers who have extensive production experience.
Choose from breakdancing, ballet, funky dance, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, Latin, and burlesque. The school offers classes for all ages.
Note that ballet, jazz, contemporary, and pointe require prior training with the company and introductory classes before full enrollment.
Moreover, their pointe classes can only be taken in conjunction with their regular ballet classes. This may rack up your bill higher if you’re only exploring dance as a hobby!
Nonetheless, The Dance Collective is a solid dance school if you’re looking to work in television and film. You might just land a gig in a music video soon!
Pros
- Best for show business exposure
- Offers a wide range of dance styles
Cons
- Requires enrolling in introductory classes
- Specialised classes should be taken in conjunction with regular dance classes
Very inclusive dance community
“Joining The Dance Collective has been life changing. I have been part of the dance community for over 20 years. Though, when I walked into the TDC doors I was met with a level of professionalism, diversity (in multiple ways!), quality, and overall amazing and welcoming vibes, I had yet experienced before. They really stay true to the word ‘Collective’, with everyone being included, as well as the collaborative nature on which the dance school operates. It’s been one of the best decisions of my life to be a part of this incredible dance school and I just wish I joined sooner!.”

The company pursues excellence in dance without every losing sight of the value of respect and inclusion. There is genuinely a place for everyone at The Dance Collective.”

Parents of toddlers with a knack for rhythm may want to sign up their tots for classes at Esteem Dance Company. It offers dance classes in lyrical, jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip-hop, designed for children up to the 7th grade.
The school trains their dancers to join local and nationwide dance competitions in several categories, specifically in jazz and lyrical.
Even toddlers as young as 3 years old can start training, but they can only join competitions if they’ve been training for at least 4 years in the company.
It’s still nice to know that there’s a dance school in town that caters to very young dancers. Plus, the teachers are all well-trained and passed the CSTD examinations, with some training under national dance institutes like the Australian Dance Institute.
They don’t have a full range of dance classes yet, such as Latin ballroom and ballet, but this is a good school to consider enrolling your child if you’re looking to help them get a jumpstart in a dance career!
Pros
- Best for toddler-friendly dance classes
- Specialises in lyrical and jazz
Cons
- Limited range of dance styles
- Requires at least 4 years of training to enter competitions
A school that focuses on nurturing talent
“We absolutely love Esteem and everything it stands for. The owners Carrie ann & Brittany pour their heart & soul into their dance studio and all of the children attending. My 3 girls have danced here for over 5 yrs and just love going to dance class.
If you are looking for a dance school where your child will be nurtured, made to feel a part of something special and just blossom in confidence then I highly recommend you do a trial class. The end of year concert is tear-jerking looking at your child give it their all on stage.”

Being confident in your own skin, especially while dancing, is tough. Thankfully, Diamond Dance offers a safe and empowering environment that encourages self-expression.
It specialises in pole dance, chair dance, heels classes, and flexibility. Unlike typical academies, they welcome women of all skill levels to boost their confidence through dance.
Classes focus on flexibility, coordination, and flow, helping students feel comfortable on a pole or in high heels. It’s all about letting loose for a few hours each week!
The school isn’t child-friendly, however. Since it’s a dance school dedicated to women, only women can join, save for occasional open-house workshops.
If you’ve never done pole dancing before, they offer trial classes for $15 and zero commitments to a class schedule. Slots tend to fill up quickly, so I highly recommend booking a trial as soon as possible!
Pros
- Best for pole dancing and flexibility
- Offers trial classes
Cons
- Classes are only for women
- Not suitable for children or senior citizens
Welcoming and empowering atmosphere
“I joined Diamond Dance around 3 months ago and it’s been one of the best things I’ve done for myself in a really long time! The atmosphere is so welcoming and empowering, I always leave class feeling amazing!”
Julez Ferre, Google Review
Trial classes offer good value for money
“I absolutely love going to my dance classes. I started a few months ago with a $15 trial class. (I know! Super cheap.) I was just looking for something fun to do as a workout. I didn’t think that I would feel comfortable enough being a larger lady, but everyone there is so kind and helpful. I didn’t have any of the strength to dance on the pole well, but I had so much fun that I signed up anyway for 2x classes / week. I do conditioning for pole and level one and although it is hard, I always leave feeling the best I ever have. I have noticed a change in my muscles and am so much stronger now! I can’t recommend this place enough. If you are looking for an opportunity to try something new book one of the trial classes! Just be careful, you will fall in love with pole just like I did!”

Turning Pointe Performance Academy trains young dancers and athletes for national and international competitions in hip-hop, cheerleading, acrobatics, and more.
One of the most unique classes they offer is contortions, which can be taken in conjunction with their acrobatics, cheerleading, or contemporary dance classes. These are intensive classes that condition bodies for advanced stunts for competitions.
Attendance at Turning Pointe is mandatory, with no makeup classes allowed, even on public holidays. This policy may not suit those seeking dance as an after-school activity. Trial classes are available, but the academy selects applicants based on skill level.
If you want to join competitions or take dance seriously as a career, Turning Pointe Performance Academy is a solid school to consider. The studio is quite far away from the city centre, but the lessons you’ll learn are worth the trip!
Pros
- Best for contortions and cheerleading
- Offers trial classes
Cons
- Far from the city centre
- Strict attendance
Supportive and family-friendly team
“Turning Pointe is an amazing dance school. My daughters have been going here for 10 years and have always loved joining in the fun and friendly atmosphere of each class. With talented and supportive teachers, it is truly inspiring to watch what these kids can learn and achieve in their classes. I also love the supportive and family-friendly community here at Turning Pointe. We’ve loved every minute of it.”

“My children have been attending Turning Pointe for 6 years now and I highly recommend it. The teachers are lovely and so supportive and I love that safety is a priority. The parents are all so helpful and, along with the teachers, they are an extended family for us. If you are after a supportive school with fun classes for your little one, make sure you try it out.”
