1. Studio Thimbles

Website: studiothimbles.com.au
Address: 437 Hay Street, Subiaco
Contact: 0403 120 016 | [email protected]
Hours: Class-based schedule
Learning to sew can feel daunting at first, but Studio Thimbles makes it easier with their fully equipped studio. They offer beginner-friendly sewing courses and provide the materials and equipment, so you can start creating without buying anything.
We spoke with a client who took an introductory garment construction class, and they said the hands-on support was excellent.
Small group sizes mean you get plenty of direct guidance and quick feedback as you learn. From there, you can move into social sewing and more advanced alterations as your skills grow.
Plus, the studio welcomes both kids and adults, making it a great option for different age groups.
But since their focus is mainly on sewing and textiles, you won’t find many other art forms here.
Supportive atmosphere, great instruction and interesting projects
Supportive atmosphere, great instruction and interesting projects- the perfect place to learn to sew. Olga is great and a wealth of knowledge- I loved my classes at Studio Thimbles. I was a complete beginner- never touched a sewing machine before I started- and I always felt I was given excellent support and coaching to succeed, and most importantly, enjoy the process of sewing. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn to sew!

Best decision I made this year
Absolutely loved my sewing classes. Best decision I made this year. I can’t believe I have made my own apron, skirt and now dress! I have so much more confidence and skill now in sewing and mending projects at home. The teachers are fantastic, patient and helpful. I looked forward to the class every week.

Fun, satisfying & different activity to do
Fun, satisfying & different activity to do. Recently went with my 10 year old daughter for decoden craft. Location is easy to access and there’s metered parking right outside (take coins – no card facility except ‘easypark’ app). Joe and his team were super friendly & helpful

Address: 89 Eighth Avenue, Maylands
Contact: [email protected]
Hours: Wednesday-Friday, 10:00 AM-4:00 PM; Saturday-Sunday, 9:30 AM-2:00 PM
Families looking for a flexible creative outlet will feel right at home at The Sunshine Lane in Maylands.
They offer casual drop-in craft sessions alongside structured after-school classes, creating a welcoming space for hands-on creativity at different skill levels.
Their after-school programs introduce kids to different mediums, including clay and repurposed art. Regular visitors can also get more value from the family membership, which includes free studio entry during drop-in sessions and discounts on products.
However, the studio’s smaller size can make private group bookings harder to arrange. They’re also closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so you’ll need to plan around those days.
Super fun and easy to just walk in and start making something
Just took the kids for a craft date. 4yo really enjoyed making some polymer clay monsters (with a little help!) while I glazed a mug and the baby slept in the pram. Super fun and easy to just walk in and start making something, with the set up / clean up taken care of 😂 Will go again for some collage making!

I highly recommend visiting The Sunshine Lane for any fun, creative experiences!
My fiance gifted me a polymer clay earring workshop for my birthday and it was such a wholesome experience! Our teacher was super friendly and helped us make some beautiful little creations. We left with about 6 gorgeous pairs of earrings between the two of us and felt very inspired to take it up as a hobby. I highly recommend visiting The Sunshine Lane for any fun, creative experiences!

But since the workshops take place at different venues, the overall experience can vary depending on the space and setup.
A wonderful way to share quality time
Had an amazing experience doing the flower crown workshop with my teen daughter. The workshop itself and location catered to all senses. This was up there with one of the best experiences we’ve shared together. A wonderful way to share quality time. Look forward to attending future workshops.

Just remember pottery that breaks during drying or firing isn’t eligible for a refund.
Shiloh guided the session perfectly, giving a brief but really helpful run through the basics
Walking in the space was set up so thoughtfully and they made everyone feel welcome, with a drink in hand. Shiloh guided the session perfectly, giving a brief but really helpful run through the basics, then letting everyone be creative and do their own thing. She and Aïscha were hands on and so helpful, enthusiastic and kind for the whole session, but never intervened when it wasn’t welcomed (and kept the mimosas flowing, the perfect playlist of tunes going, and took some happy snaps for us too!)
