5 Best Butcher Shops in Perth You Need to Try for Your Next Sunday Barbecue

  • Meat Freshness - I chose shops that sell fresh meat sourced from their own farms or suppliers that are certified by the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) or approved by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
  • Variety of Meat - I made sure to include shops that offer a wide selection of meat and poultry like beef, lamb, pork, and chicken, as well as less common meat like duck, rabbit, and veal.
  • Location Convenience - I made sure to include shops that are located within the city centre of Perth or at least 15 minutes away. I also considered how easy it is to park or access the butcher shops.
  • Customer Service - I chose butcher shops that maintain a high standard of customer service, serving customers who request all sorts of cut styles from American and Italian to Brazilian.

Sunday barbecues are the absolute best, and I don’t think I’ve ever missed whenever my dad hosts one. He goes all out on his grill!

However, before he does his magic, I go out to get the goods. I’m on butcher shop duty!

Out of all the shops I’ve visited, I narrowed down the very best on this list. I highly suggest asking the butchers for their recommendations for your barbecues or maybe a new recipe (they don’t disappoint)!

Torre Butchers has been serving quality meat for over 70 years. They’ve served my grandparents, my parents, and now my own family, and I can vouch that they’ve been very consistent with their meat quality and choices.

They offer beef, lamb, pork, sausages, poultry, game, and veal. Experienced butchers can chop your order any way you want. I usually get lamb and pork chops, plus prime ribeye steak. They’re also great with advice; once, a butcher recommended sausages and sauces for my dinner.

I did notice, however, that the prices tend to change a lot. They’re not the cheapest in the city, either.

Also, parking can be a nightmare if I drop by during rush hour. I recommend coming here on foot when you can!

Pros

  • Wide range of meat available
  • Has been in business for over 70 years

Cons

  • Inconsistent pricing
  • Limited parking

Best family-run business in Perth

“I have been a loyal customer of Torres for over a decade now, and I can truly say that this is one of the best family-run butcher shops I have ever come across. The staff members are always welcoming and friendly, and their in-depth knowledge about their products is beyond comparison. Not to mention, the quality of their meats is exceptional, and the prices are very reasonable.”

If you love hosting Sunday barbecues, prepping your grill for Brazilian-style steaks and sausages from Churras is a must! Originally a delivery-only service, it now has a physical store specialising in South American meats.

A few of their bestsellers are flavoured pork sausages like Brazilian Toscana, Pork Belly Chorizo, Smoky Chipotle, and Jalapeno and Cheese. Their Angus beef steaks, tomahawks, lamb shoulders, pork loins, and beef fillets are also local favourites.

Because their selections mainly consist of prime steaks and sausages, they’re quite pricey. They have a limited range of poultry or game selections (except turkey), which may be disappointing for those who don’t eat steaks.

If you’re really into grilling and barbecues, Churras is the best butcher shop in Perth. You can even try their products cooked off the grill in-store before buying!

Pros

  • Best for barbecue meats
  • Specialises in South American-style meat

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Mainly sells sausages and steaks

Juicy and delicious steaks

“My Brazilian friend Recommended this Butcher. The steak was so Juicy and delicious. I Especially love this Jalapeño and cheese sausages. Can’t wait to go back and buy another stuff. highly recommended!”

A rare gem in Perth

“Love this place. One of the rare places to find Entranya. Their pichanya is awesome as they source from three different suppliers, so you always have a choice. Lamb shanks each time was perfect and they precut them, which makes it easier to cook/fit into in a pot.”

The sausage rolls and Christmas hams at Mondo Butcher & Grocer are some of my absolute favourites growing up. My family orders a bunch of them as gifts for close friends during the Christmas season, and they quickly became family favourites.

The butcher shop sells more than just hams and sausages; they offer turkey, beef roasts, lamb, steaks, pork loins, and chicken. They mainly sell basic cuts, though.

Prices are reasonable, and the meats are always fresh. I also visit the small grocery and deli for cheeses, oils, crackers, and dairy products.

They’re really a go-to for pantry fillers, small goods, and meats, and I can’t rave about their Christmas hams enough!

I just dread the actual shopping experience, though. The shop is usually packed with people, especially during the holiday season (but they do offer deliveries in case you can’t make the trip!).

Pros

  • Has a deli and a small grocery
  • Best for Christmas hams and meats

Cons

  • Usually packed
  • Limited cut styles

Good quality meats

“$10 for such a loaded roll, you can select from a variety of meats (roast beef/pork..) too. Roast beef was so juicy and flavourful, meat juices soaked right into the bun. It’s a butcher shop but they sell sandwiches out of the corner too, highly recommend for some good quality sandos and such a great price”

Not a lot of butcher shops in Perth sell duck and rabbit, but Barbaro Bros Butchers does! I once had to buy duck and rabbit for a new recipe I was testing, and although the shop was far from the city centre, it was worth the trip!

Aside from rabbit and duck, they also sell beef, lamb, veal, chicken, turkey, pork, turkey, and sausages. All their lamb and beef products are produced in their own family-run farm while their other products are sourced from other local farms.

For their meat quality, Barbaro Bros earned awards such as the Perth Royal Gold Food Award and won first place in Australian National Sausage King Competitions.

I’ve trusted them since my first visit, but I usually stick to rabbit and duck now. My last order of beef and lamb had fatty, bony cuts that weren’t worth the price.

Pros

  • Award-winning butcher shop
  • Sells meat from their own farm

Cons

  • Far from city centre
  • Bony and fatty cuts

Friendly customer service

“I’ve been going to Barbaro Bros Butcher for years now. The staff are friendly, providing great service and also a supply of great produce.”

Whenever I crave Italian or Greek-style marinated meat, I turn to The Corner Butcher for their selection of lamb, beef, pork, and free-range poultry.

They source all their meats from reputable suppliers such as Amelia Park, Borrello Beef Processing, and Mount Barker Free Range Turkey, to name a few.

What I love about The Corner Butcher is their expertise in different cut styles. They know exactly how to prepare American cuts and even recommend the best parts to get!

Sometimes, though, I notice that they tend to choose high-end cuts even when I don’t ask for them. I recommend telling them your budget for meat cuts before asking them to choose for you.

As one of the city’s popular butcher shops, expect a line. I’ve never visited without waiting, but they pay great attention to your requests despite being a bit slow.

Pros

  • Best for flavoured and marinated meat
  • Butchers are well-versed in different cut styles

Cons

  • Slow customer service
  • Inconsistent pricing

Delicious and high-quality meats

“Wow what a beautiful butchers! The counter today was 10/10. I got lamb soulvaki kebabs, and chicken chimichurri kebab, chicken breast schnitzels and belly pork – all of it was absolutely delicious and so reasonably priced too. The gents who served me were so lovely and friendly, this is my new favourite butchers in Perth and I’m so glad I found you! Photo of my yummy dinner 🤤 Thanks guys!”

Meat that never disappoints

“This place is fantastic. Always busy which is an obvious sign of quality. Sausages are epic and the meat in general never disappoints.

I purchased a 1.4kg T-bone on the weekend and it was so tender and full of great flavour. Was worth it for the flavour of the fat alone which you don’t get in Supermarket meat.”
