Cons

We were impressed by the numerous recognitions that Dr. Rob Paul managed to acquire over the years, such as the Helen Jane Lamard Prize. Clearly, he’s one of the most renowned eye specialists and surgeons in Perth.
Dr. Paul has a very warm comforting presence during consultations. His discussions are always informative without being overly wordy or complicated.
We found that patients were very appreciative of how he managed to educate their eye conditions without using too many medical terms. They quickly understood and made informed decisions based on his assessments.
The clinic itself is very clean and brightly lit. The atmosphere is extremely professional and modern. The reception staff is just lovely, as they make the patients feel at ease.
Some of his patients have been regularly seeing him for over five years. This loyalty is a testament to his skill and attitude as an eye surgeon.
However, we have a strong note of caution for patients with cars. Despite the ample parking, consultations with Dr. Paul can be slightly hard to secure, as he sees a lot of patients. To ensure your appointments, we suggest contacting him by telephone.

Dr. Lourens van Zyl has a clinic at Crystal Clear Eye & Laser Centre. He’s widely known for his brilliant method of connecting with patients of every age. His explanations can be very in-depth yet exceptionally easy to understand.
Many patients reported that during their consultations with Dr. van Zyl, he remained professional yet casual all throughout. They appreciated this trait since it made them feel better after understanding their eye conditions.
Dr. van Zyl uses clear terms to help patients comprehend their current eye health situation. He encourages patients to be more watchful of their eye health and provides advice on how to keep their eyes healthy and reduce eye problems
His clinic offers a payment plan that funds all medical bills and out-of-pocket costs, which we think is extremely convenient. The payment plans cover all medical fees from $2,000 to $5,000. Additional payments or rebates are easily credited to the plans.

Pros
- Available five days a week
- The doctor has broad experience in eye surgery
Cons
- Doesn’t use the latest tools
- Unavailable on weekends
- Appointments can be delayed at times
Dr. Nigel Morlet is a very pleasant eye doctor with an extensive background in his field of expertise. He heads the New Vision Centre clinic that offers various services for multiple eye concerns.
The clinic is very clean, warm, and welcoming. We found that patients generally had an easy time consulting with Dr. Morlet. Some patients, however, had to wait longer.
We later found out this was due to unforeseen circumstances, as Dr. Morlet sometimes sees patients with multiple eye issues. These situations can take longer than usual.
Our impression of Dr. Morlet is that he’s a very patient and knowledgeable physician. He takes time to consider his words and makes them simple, clear, and concise.
We were less impressed by the reception team since they seemed to be overwhelmed by their work, as reported by waiting clients. Some patients who came in for check-ups were not entertained promptly.
Most of the patients had very positive results, but some who came in due to complications claimed that their outcomes weren’t encouraging. They attributed it to Dr. Morlet using tools that aren’t as modern as his peers.
But overall, our impression of Dr. Morlet and his clinic is mostly positive. Many of his patients have praised him for his skills and services. However, we feel that the administrative side of his clinic can improve more.

Pros
- Available five days a week
- The doctor has broad experience in eye surgery
Cons
- Long waiting hours
- Some patients were not impressed with her disposition
Dr. Andrea Ang holds consultations at Lions Eye Institute. She has been noted by many patients to be quite competent as a specialist in eye surgery. She also has a great background in her field of expertise.
However, there were reports that she has been dismissive of the needs of her patients. One patient commented that although they tried to ask for further recommendations, they weren’t entertained very well.
But other patients, such as one who got their eyesight back, did have good things to say. We suggest consulting with Dr. Ang only when your primary ophthalmologist isn’t able to accommodate your needs.
The clinic where Dr. Ang holds her office also had some negative feedback. The reception team was noted to be cold by most patients. Others noted that the nurses seemed quite unwelcoming and unfriendly.
The overall consensus among patients is that the general attitude of the staff needs improvement. The appointment system was also noted to be quite challenging. Many patients seemed unhappy about the long waiting hours.

Pros
- Available five days a week
- The doctor practices eye surgery extensively
Cons
- Rates can be expensive
- Reception team needs time management skills
- The doctor can have challenging moments in dealing with patients
Dr. Boon Ham is a genial surgeon who sometimes has difficult moments when taking care of his patients. Overall, his demeanour is warm, although this isn’t consistent with all patient experiences.
Some patients felt that they were not heard, while others complained about the high consultation fees.
They mentioned that the fees would have been reasonable if the service provided by Dr. Ham was commensurate. They felt that the clinic’s services fell short of their expectations.
However, some patients do appreciate Dr. Ham for his time in helping them with their eye issues. Some patients have been clients for over 10 years with many good things to say about him.
The reception team at the clinic also garnered some mixed feedback. Most of the patients agreed on the lack of professionalism the team had in dealing with patients.
We suggest that you visit Dr. Ham only when your preferred surgeons are unavailable.
