Pros

  • Provides numerous IP services
  • Communicates well and responds quickly
  • Free initial discussion
  • Offers fixed prices

Cons

  • May require an appointment
  • Small parking space

Because of their wide range of intellectual property services, Northern Lights IP is one of the firms we suggest for your next IP lawyer in Perth.

Their offerings include writing patents and defending them, protecting your brand by filing trademarks and registering designs, and giving you advice on how to move forward.

Some of their past clients also told us how informative their team was. When it comes to explaining patent law concepts, we appreciate that they simplify the concepts using everyday language.

We think it’s important for patent lawyers to be good communicators. This is mainly because the nature of their cases makes it easy for words and ideas to get mixed up.

It’s also helpful that their staff answers questions quickly. For us, this makes them very reliable.

In addition, we like that the first meeting with one of their lawyers doesn’t cost anything. This helps people get the information they need before making a final decision about their patent needs.

Northern Lights IP has reasonable rates in the city too. They typically charge based on what you initially expect.

To be sure, it’s best to have a conversation with them at their office, which is available Mondays through Fridays. Yet, note that they have enough parking for only a few clients by their location.

Pros

  • Among the biggest Australian IP specialist firms
  • Highly experienced firm
  • They cover most IP services
  • Available in 4 locations

Cons

  • Parking space may be inadequate
  • Their target may be mainly older businesses

Wrays is one of the largest independent intellectual property (IP) specialist firms in Australia we recommend for a reliable IP lawyer in Perth.

First of all, it’s impressive to us that they’ve been a patent and trademark law firm for more than 100 years!

Their team has heaps of experience with recognising, protecting, and enforcing intellectual property rights in a wide range of industries and technologies. We think clients won’t need to go to other companies for similar services.

Besides patents, they deal with trademarks, designs, copyright, litigation, commercial contracts, licencing, and searching services too.

We commend the fact that they also have a diverse clientele. This includes people from all over the world, such as small and medium-sized businesses, large corporations, universities, government agencies, and overseas law firms.

However, we noticed that their online presence for younger brands and businesses isn’t that strong yet. This makes us think that they may be used to working with older companies more.

Still, you can send them a message online for any enquiry. They’re also pretty accessible, as they have 4 offices: Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide.

Just note that parking may be challenging in their Perth location because the streets seem a tad narrow. As an alternative, Transperth buses stop here, making it easier for people to get around.

Pros

  • They can cater to Asian-Pacific clients
  • Offers searching and watch services
  • Charges capped or fixed prices
  • Provides a free quote and consultation

Cons

  • No parking outside their location
  • Unavailable on weekends

We recommend Mann IP as one of the best IP lawyers in Perth because they can work with a lot of different clients.

Aside from Perth, they serve the Asia-Pacific region too! The company works with the standard time zones of Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore, which we believe makes them easy to reach internationally.

This company mostly makes patent, trademark, and registered design applications, files them, and defends them in court. Also, they tell clients about intellectual property rights issues like infringement, validity, and enforcement.

We especially like that they offer comprehensive search and watch services to keep track of what competitors are doing with their IP.

The prices for all applications are also capped and fixed. We appreciate that this keeps clients from having to pay extra fees along the way.

But for some patents, the process took longer than expected. This depends on the client, but many people can still say that the firm is trustworthy.

Once you fill out their simple online form, Mann IP will give you a free quote if you’re interested. They also give private meetings, but only during the week.

Also note that they don’t have a parking spot outside, but you may park at City of Perth Parking instead.

Pros

  • Several attorneys have engineering degrees
  • Offers fixed fees for their services
  • Laid-back atmosphere for consultations
  • Reasonable rates

Cons

  • May prefer onsite to phone consultations
  • Many other establishments share their parking space

Another firm with some of our favourite IP lawyers in Perth is Patenteur.

We believe they have a unique team with an impressive background – several of their lawyers also have engineering degrees!

In our opinion, this gives more credibility to their understanding of clients who are inventors or entrepreneurs.

We also like that they charge a fixed fee to prepare and file patent applications. Yet, this depends on how difficult the client’s invention is to make and how much work it takes to make a good application.

Moreover, the price for a provisional patent application starts at $4500. We think the price is pretty reasonable since this is within the average rate in Perth.

And if you don’t want to do patent availability searches yourself, we find it handy that they can do this for you. For $3,500, their team will write you a comprehensive report.

Still, one client had trouble understanding how the patent law worked because he wanted to talk about it over the phone. When possible, we feel it might be best to discuss these matters in person to avoid misunderstandings.

Their location has good parking too, but keep in mind that there are many cars parked for other businesses in the same building. As a result, the space may get filled easily.

Pros

  • Experienced with big companies
  • Informative and offers detailed info sheets
  • May give affordable rates
  • Provides ample parking

Cons

  • Meetings may take longer than promised
  • Contact details are required before getting free info

Although O’Sullivans Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys is a small company, they still made it on our list because of their experience. We like the fact that their IP lawyers in Perth have worked with several big companies before.

For $1,500, clients can get a good international patent search too. We believe this is a fair price compared to several other firms that charge more.

We appreciate that searching for trademarks can be done for free too! All you have to do is fill out their short request form, which shouldn’t take more than 5 to 10 minutes.

Nevertheless, this could take longer if you don’t already have your trademark images ready to upload.

Also, we like that clients can get a free, detailed info sheet about intellectual property from their website.

But you’ll have to put in your name and email address to get one – we think this could be a dealbreaker for some. Still, we feel it’s better to know about them as much as possible before you proceed.

A few clients we talked to also shared that some meetings with them lasted longer than planned. Make sure to set your expectations beforehand, so both parties can keep better track of time.

Conveniently, there are many places to park near O’Sullivans Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys to make your visits more seamless. There are a few cafes and bars nearby when you get hungry as well.
