How We Picked Restaurants to Have Dinner in Perth

Menu

We picked restaurants that offer a wide variety of high-quality food and drinks.

Ambience

This is based on the overall atmosphere of the restaurant, which includes the design, comfort, and feel of the place.

Service

The friendliness of the servers and the restaurant staff can enhance your dinner experience, which is why we’ve added this criterion.

Cost

Everyone has a different idea of what’s affordable, but this is based on the value for money they provide through their menu items.

Pros

  • Has vegan and vegetarian options
  • Uses high-quality local ingredients
  • Has 4 and 6-course tasting options
  • Follow the indigenous 6 farmer seasons

Cons

  • Mixed reviews on service
  • Can be noisy
  • Small portions

Wildflower is a unique fine dining restaurant that follows the six farmer and forager seasons from indigenous culture. Regardless of the season, they use only the finest fresh ingredients that are harvested locally.

You can choose between the four-course and six-course tasting options, which costs $138 and $175, respectively. Their servings are pretty small, and you can finish all meals on the menu without much trouble.

Their small servings have led to complaints from some customers claiming it wasn’t worth the price they paid for. All meals, however, are of great quality, but we suggest that you check their current menu before choosing to dine there.

We also like how they offer vegan and vegetarian options, which also change every season. You can let the staff know if you have any other dietary restrictions or allergies, and they’ll do their best to respect it.

Unfortunately, customer feedback regarding their service has been mixed. While most customers we’ve spoken to say that the wait staff is accommodating, others said that they were left alone on their table with long waiting times.

Since they’re located on the fourth floor at COMO The Treasury, we encourage you to request a window seat to get the best dining experience.

However, we have heard some complaints about the acoustics of the restaurant and that it can end up noisy when the place is packed.

If noise is a dealbreaker for you, the best option would be to come in between Tuesday and Thursday to avoid the weekend rush.

Pros

  • Good for wine enthusiasts
  • Can accommodate walk-ins
  • Cosy ambience
  • Consistent quality of food
  • Can choose between tasting menu or à la carte

Cons

  • Can be noisy
  • Tends to be busy
  • Cannot be contacted through phone

Nieuw Ruin is a must-go if you’re looking for a new dining experience, whether you’re looking for a satiating meal or a fun night of wine mixes and cocktails.

They have an interesting take on the dining experience, and instead of having individual tables, they have communal tables for different guests to be able to interact with each other.

Don’t worry. The place isn’t cramped, and there’s still enough space for social distancing. However, do expect some level of noise, as it is definitely a lively restaurant.

They can accommodate walk-ins, but we still recommend that you book ahead to ensure your slot. Our only gripe with this is that you can only book reservations on their online form through their website or through email.

If you’re coming in for an unscheduled visit, it’s best if you only have a small group with you or are only looking to have drinks by the bar.

They pride themselves as a place serving good food, good cocktails, and weird wine, which we can attest to. All of their food is sourced locally, and their wine selection is mindfully chosen to support small and independent producers.

We also like how you can select between the six-course tasting menu or order meals à la carte. They have generous servings for each meal, which we think is worth the prices they charge for.

You can browse their extensive wine collection which they have on open display on their shelves or in their fridge, which we think elevates the whole dining experience.

3. Bivouac Canteen & Bar

Pros

  • Can accommodate walk-ins
  • Can choose between tasting menu or à la carte
  • Generous servings
  • Has vegan options

Cons

  • Customers felt rushed during their meal
  • A little expensive
  • May not be able to accommodate allergies

Bivouac offers a new and fun way to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine. They have a good variety in their menu from their starters to drinks, and you can choose to order à la carte or their four-course tasting menu with handpicked dishes from the chef.

The prices for each meal are on the pricier end, but they don’t skimp on the servings, so we think it’s a good deal. However, we do suggest carefully ordering the dishes you want to try, as it’s possible you may not finish each meal.

They have vegetarian and vegan options, but if you have any other dietary restrictions or allergies, we urge you to call them in advance and ask if they can make accommodations for you.

This is because some customers claimed they were told by the restaurant they couldn’t accommodate them because of their allergies and they were required to bring an EpiPen during the meal.

There were also some complaints about the whole dining experience, as some customers felt rushed during their meal.

Diners have a 90-minute time frame for their visit, which is made known to them in advance, but a couple of customers have complained that the wait staff kept reminding them about said time frame despite the restaurant being empty.

We think the restaurant can improve their service in this aspect, but we think 90 minutes is ample time to finish your meal unless you’re taking a large group with you.

4. Post

Pros

  • Serves all meals of the day
  • Extensive drinks menu
  • Quiet and cosy ambience
  • Good serving size
  • Can choose between tasting menu or à la carte

Cons

  • Some complaints on wait staff
  • Has a surcharge on Sundays and public holidays

Post is the second restaurant on this list that’s located in COMO The Treasury, and if you’re looking to enjoy Italian cuisine, this is the place to go.

Their biggest advantage is that they’re open for most of the day, and you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have a different breakfast menu, but their lunch and dinner menu are the same with à la carte items or a six-course tasting menu.

Ordering from their à la carte menu or enjoying the tasting menu are both good options, and the best way to decide which one you’ll choose is to explore their menus online and see which one you prefer.

Their prices are on par for fine dining establishments, but what we like best are their serving sizes, as it’s just the right amount for one person to enjoy.

However, if you’re dining on a Sunday or on public holidays, be prepared to pay for the 10% and 15% surcharge, respectively. This is to properly compensate their staff, but these days can also be busier compared to regular days.

The ambience and overall feel of the restaurant are unique and something you can’t find anywhere else. They’re located in the former City General’s Post Office, and the interior has been redesigned well to pay homage to this history.

If there’s one thing that can taint your dining experience here, it’s the wait staff. Some customers have claimed that they can be noisy around the restaurant and sometimes rude in serving their meals.

5. Fleur

Pros

  • Can accommodate walk-ins
  • Can accommodate dietary restrictions
  • Can choose between tasting menu or à la carte
  • Cosy and quiet ambience

Cons

  • Inconsistent quality of food
  • Some complaints on food being too experimental
  • Small serving sizes

Located in The Royal Hotel, Fleur boasts a pleasant mix of an ornate yet modern interior to reflect the high quality of French cuisine they serve. Taking from their name, Fleur is decorated with colourful bouquets and artworks.

You can order from their à la carte options or their tasting menu, but we suggest ordering from their à la carte menu to be able to get more control over the food you’ll consume.

This is because the tasting menu is handpicked by the chef and some diners have complained that the dishes, while of high quality, were too experimental with too many flavour profiles.

The quality of the food can be inconsistent as well, and this can be because of too many things going on with each meal, which makes it hard for you to enjoy the meal at its fullest.

The serving sizes are a bit small as well, which customers don’t think match the price they charge it for. For instance, the six-course tasting menu is at $110 per person, and that doesn’t include the beverages!

You can save more if you order individual meals, unless you order some of their mains that can equal the cost of their tasting menu!

Overall, we do think they’re a great option if you’re looking for a unique dining experience, but you must be prepared to splurge quite an amount if you’ll be dining here.
