A Cat’s 2nd Home: The 5 Best Cat Boarding Centres in Perth

How We Picked

Boarding facilities

We looked at cat boarding centres with well-maintained rooms and facilities. This evaluates whether these centres have enough equipment and activities available to keep your cat occupied.

Staff

We also considered how good their staff is at taking care of our cats. This is based on their experience as well as the services offered.

Communication

These cat boarding centres must be ready to notify owners immediately should an emergency occur. They must also be active in responding to enquiries sent through their phones and emails.

Accessibility

It’s important for an owner to be able to easily visit their cats at any time. We rated the location and operating hours of these cat boarding centres.

Pros

  • Friendly and well-experienced staff
  • Has both indoor and outdoor playing areas
  • More than 15 years in operation
  • Spacious cat kennels

Cons

  • Too far from Perth CBD
  • Has a $40 minimum charge

Purrever Cattery is my first choice should I ever need to entrust my cat, Mona, to someone while I’m away from Perth. Their facilities are spacious and are managed by a passionate team.

The owners, Jen and Robbie, started Purrever Cattery in 2006 and have more than 15 years of experience taking care of cats for other people.

They’re friendly and accommodating. I explained to them that Mona is picky when it comes to food, so I was pleased when they said that they have customised meal plans.

Aside from the staff, I also love Purrever Cattery’s spacious facilities. Their kennels are 1.5 by 2.4 metres, with each having its own bed, water, food, and litter tray.

It’s also a great thing that they both have indoor and outdoor playing areas. Your cat will always have something fun to do while staying here!

However, a downside to Purrever Cattery is its location. It’s located in Mundaring, on the outskirts of Perth.

I should also warn you that they have a $40 minimum charge for their boarding services no matter how long your cat will stay with them.

Pros

  • Hotel-style accommodations for your cats
  • Provides daily updates
  • Staff trained in the administration of cat medication
  • Large play area for cats

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Limited visitation hours

Furbaby Retreat is the best choice if you want to provide your beloved cat with premium care and attention while you’re away. They keep each cat in spacious hotel-like rooms, unlike your usual cat boarding centre with kennels.

Owners can choose between standard, deluxe, and special suites for their cat to stay in. Their suites each have their own themes and facilities designed to keep your cat as comfortable as possible.

Don’t worry because your cat won’t be stuck in their hotel rooms all day. Furbaby Retreat has a large play area filled with various toys to ensure cats have the chance to socialise and remain active.

Speaking of staff members, I am happy to report that their staff is very experienced when it comes to dealing with cats. They are also trained in administering cat medication, so you won’t have to pay for veterinary services.

Another thing I love about Furbaby Retreat is its commitment to providing owners with daily updates regarding the status of their cats. You’re free to choose where they should send the updates, whether it be through SMS, Viber, or Instagram.

However, as expected, their services don’t come cheap. Their cheapest rooms cost more than $45 per day.

It’s also a bit disappointing that they only allow limited visitation hours for owners. I recommend you call them in advance before you visit your cat.

Pros

  • Free health check for cats
  • More than 30 years of experience
  • Suite-style accommodations
  • Provides regular updates

Cons

  • Some staff members act impersonal towards customers
  • Limited business hours on weekends

Booragoon Vet Cat Hotel is a fully equipped veterinary hospital and is more than just a cat boarding centre. Its owners, Drs. Tiegan Brockway and Mark McDonald have a combined experience of more than 30 years in providing veterinary services.

The thing I really love about this cat boarding centre is its spacious suite-style rooms for your cats. For $26.50 a night, your cats will enjoy an entire room for themselves, with a veterinarian always on standby to help them in case of an emergency.

Booragoon Vet Cat Hotel also ensures that your cat remains healthy during their stay with free daily health checkups. You’ll know immediately if there’s something wrong with your cat because they provide daily updates to owners.

They send their regular updates through Viber and Instagram.

Booragoon Vet Cat Hotel can also help you with other services like pet surgery, pet dentistry, vaccinations, and more.

Still, there are some things this cat boarding centre needs to improve on. Some customers criticise their staff for acting impersonal whenever they answer enquiries.

I must also inform you that Booragoon Vet Cat Hotel is only open for a very limited time on weekends. Make sure to visit them on weekdays instead if you intend to have your cat stay with them.

Pros

  • Provides regular updates with photos
  • Friendly and caring staff
  • Offers discounts for long-term stays
  • 40 years in operation

Cons

  • Doesn’t accept diabetic cats
  • Some rooms are too small

A Cat’s Holiday Home is a highly experienced provider of cat boarding and veterinary services. This cat boarding centre has an impressive 40 years of experience in the industry.

A lot of cat owners praise the staff here for their friendly and caring attitude. One customer told me that their deaf and grumpy cat had no problems interacting with the staff.

Other people I talked to also appreciate the staff’s ability to deal with their cats’ separation anxieties.

Another thing many love about A Cat’s Holiday Home is its regular updates for cat owners. Customers can receive their updates through Facebook, Viber, and Instagram.

Personally, I think the best thing about this cat boarding centre is its affordable rates. A cat can enjoy a room complete with its own set of facilities and toys for only $19 a night.

A Cat’s Holiday Home is also the perfect choice for those looking for long-term stays for their cats. Owners will receive a discount if their cat stays here for more than a month.

However, I am disappointed that they don’t accept diabetic cats into their boarding centre. You’ll need to look elsewhere if your cat is suffering from diabetes.

I also checked out their facilities one time when I was looking for a place for my cat to stay while I was abroad.

While most of their facilities are fine, I noticed that some of their rooms intended for more than one cat are too small to accommodate many cats at once.

Pros

  • Can pick up and deliver your cat
  • Huge communal play facilities
  • Has isolated units for cats that require special care
  • More than 30 years in operation

Cons

  • Issues with communication
  • Doesn’t provide regular updates on their own

Julie’s Boarding Kennels and Cattery is a boarding centre that can cater to both dogs and cats. It’s a family-owned business that has been in operation for more than 30 years.

The best thing about this boarding centre is its impressive range of facilities and accommodations. You are free to choose whether to make your cat stay in a room of their own or allow them to sleep with other cats in communal spaces.

They also have isolated accommodation spaces they refer to as “Therian Units.” These isolated units have their own ventilation and facilities for cats that need special care.

Julie’s Boarding Kennels and Cattery also has a huge communal play area for cats where they can play and socialise with each other. The play area is always monitored by their staff, so you won’t need to worry about any fights breaking out.

A unique feature this cat boarding centre has that most other centres in Perth don’t have is its cat pickup and delivery service. This service is very useful for people who don’t have the time to visit their facilities.

However, some customers told me that it was very difficult for them to contact this centre. A customer had to call numerous times before someone answered their call.

It’s also disappointing that Julie’s Boarding Kennels and Cattery doesn’t update cat owners on the status of their cats automatically. You’ll need to send them an email or give them a call first before they can provide you with an update.
