Explore the Rich Wine Heritage of Perth in Its Best Wineries

Perth is a beautiful city with amazing weather all year round. While that makes the city a great place to enjoy outdoor activities, it also makes the nearby regions the perfect places for producing the finest-quality wines!

Amazingly, 30% of all the wine awards hosted in Australia were won by Perth’s local wineries. That’s despite the fact that Western Australia produces less than 5% of the country’s total wine output (Wine International Association).

So if you’re looking to get a taste of some of our exquisite wines, make sure to stop by these amazing wineries located only a few kilometres northeast of Perth!

If you’re interested in learning about the history of Perth’s winemaking industry, then come visit Sandalford Winery. Located in Caversham, this is one of Perth’s oldest wineries and has more than a century of presence in the industry.

Its roots can be traced back to 1840. John Septimus Roe, the first surveyor general of the Swan River Colony, was granted this 1,250-acre land on the banks of the Swan River by Queen Victoria in recognition of his services to the crown.

Nowadays, the grapes grown on this land are turned into a wide selection of fine wines, like Chardonnay, Merlot, Muscadelle, Riesling, and Semillon.

A lot of the wines sold by Sandalford are known both inside and outside of Australia. Their most popular wine, the Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon, is well-loved due to its delicate notes of mint mixed with a hint of oak flavours of cedar and spice.

You can try their wide selection of wines through their wine-tasting sessions that they offer in their own bar and restaurant located inside the estate.

Pro tip: If you can’t visit the Sandalford Winery for any reason, you can still explore the estate through your computer or mobile device through their virtual tour.
