Pros

  • 10 years of experience
  • No cancellation fees
  • Specialises in small group tours
  • Offers private tours

Cons

  • Website can be inaccurate about availability
  • Response time may take as long as 24 hours

Best of Perth Tours is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a more personalised tour experience. This tour agency specialises in small group tours of up to 10 people.

They even offer private tours if you want to explore Perth with only your close friends and family.

Best of Perth Tours is knowledgeable about the best places to visit in Perth thanks to their more than 10 years of experience in the industry. Aside from the metropolitan area, they also offer tours to nearby attractions like Swan Valley.

I joined Kim, my friend from Singapore, on one of their tours to the wine region of Margaret River.

I arranged our reservation with Best of Perth Tours and was pleased to learn that I was free to cancel my reservation at any time and they would refund me in full without any cancellation fees.

The tour itself was a very fun experience. Tim, our tour guide, was a chill guy to talk to and very knowledgeable about the area.

The tour was a 2-day experience, and I was amazed to discover that our hotel stay was already included in the tour price.

Overall, I can confidently say that Best of Perth Tours is one of the best choices for discovering the best things my city has to offer.

However, I hope they fix some features of their website, especially their reservation system. Some dates are sometimes shown as unavailable for reservations, but it turns out those days are available when you ask over the phone.

It’s also quite disappointing that you’ll sometimes have to wait as long as 24 hours before you can get a reply from Best of Perth Tours.

Pros

  • Website has a tour finder tool
  • Wide variety of tours
  • Specialises in small tour groups
  • Winner of the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice 2020 Award

Cons

  • Can’t respond to calls while a tour is ongoing
  • Modifying reservations can’t be done online

Up Close and Local Tours is an award-winning tour agency with many awards and accolades. One of their most prestigious awards is the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice for 2020.

This tour agency specialises in providing small group tours and private tours. The maximum size for their group tours is 12 people.

What I find awesome about their website is its built-in tour finder feature. This app is a great tool for those who are totally new to Perth, as it searches for the best tour experience based on your set preferences.

Another thing I like about Up Close and Local Tours is its wide variety of tours. Aside from the usual tourist spots like Swan Valley and Perth’s historic buildings, they also have unique tour experiences on offer.

I joined their Asian Street Food Walking Tour, which explores the best food spots in Perth’s Chinatown. The tour guide, Kaling Leung, was very helpful in introducing me to the best Asian dishes I haven’t heard of yet.

However, the staff of Up Close and Local Tours is small, and they don’t have a dedicated staff responsible for answering calls and emails. As a result, they can’t respond to calls when they’re in the middle of a tour.

Another small issue I found with this tour agency is its reservation system. Customers who want to change their tour date can only do so by phone or email.

Pros

  • Unique Segway tours
  • Provides corporate and private tours
  • More than 15 years of experience
  • Short and fast tours

Cons

  • Above-average prices
  • Issues with communication

Segway Tours WA, as the name suggests, is a tour agency that uses Segways to conduct its tours. Their tours are an excellent alternative for those who are unable to join long walking tours.

Because you’ll be riding a Segway to the famous spots in Perth, the tour is likely to be short and fast. Most would only take you an hour and a half to finish, which can be a good thing for people who have busy schedules.

Another good thing about Segway Tours WA is its more than 15 years of experience. They have used the Segway to great effect in making their tours a one-of-a-kind experience.

I tried their Rottnest Island tour during my third visit there. It was fun to ride a Segway while quokkas alongside the road looked curiously at me and my fellow tourists.

Our tour guide was also active in providing us with tidbits of trivia throughout our little tour around the island.

I am happy to report that Segway Tours WA is also offering special tours to corporate clients. They also provide private tours if you want a more personalised experience.

However, a downside to this tour agency is its above-average prices. Their one-hour tour already costs more than $80, which is too pricey in my opinion.

Another downside to Segway Tours WA is its poor communication. Some customers told me that they had to call this company numerous times before someone replied to them.

4. Peddle Perth Rickshaw Taxi Tours

Pros

  • Unique rickshaw tours
  • Provides team building activities
  • Can accommodate groups of up to 150 people
  • Winner of the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice 2022 Award

Cons

  • Sometimes cancels reservations
  • Some famous spots in Perth aren’t included in their itineraries

Peddle Perth Rickshaw Taxi Tours might just be what you’re looking for if you want a unique way to explore Perth. All their tours are conducted through rickshaws, a method of transportation that originated in Japan.

Their rickshaws have earned admiration and interest among many media outlets in Perth. Peddle Perth Rickshaw Taxi Tours won some awards, like the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2022.

The tours they offer will take you to popular tourist attractions in the cities of Perth and Fremantle. However, my personal favourite is their Small Bar Tour, which will take you to the best hidden bars around the city.

Another awesome thing I can say about Peddle Perth Rickshaw Taxi Tours is its ability to accommodate large groups of people. Their rickshaw fleet can show groups of up to 150 people the best spots around Perth.

Their ability to handle a large crowd is what makes them a great choice for corporate events. Aside from tours around Perth, they also organise scavenger hunt games and team-building activities.

However, some customers were disappointed that this tour agency failed to show them some tourist spots in Perth.

One customer told me that their tour didn’t include the light shows that were being held at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

I should also warn you that this tour agency is very popular and has many customers. They sometimes overbook, which leads to them having to cancel some reservations.

5. Perth Explorer

Pros

  • Friendly and professional bus drivers
  • Affordable prices
  • Long list of tour packages
  • Multi-language commentary on buses

Cons

  • Bus sound system needs an upgrade
  • Old buses

Perth Explorer offers its customers a chance to see a lot of the city through its fleet of speedy buses. Their open top buses provide tourists an unobstructed view during the ride.

Their tours are excellent for those looking to explore Perth on a budget. Many of their tour packages are cheaper compared to those of other tour agencies in the city.

Another thing I find awesome about Perth Explorer is its long list of tour packages. They have themed itineraries, a one-day full tour of Perth, and even a tour package bundled with a Swan River cruise!

Perth Explorer offers special tours outside the city, like their stargazing tours in the Pinnacles Desert.

To help immerse tourists further during a bus tour, each tourist is provided with a recorded commentary, which they can listen to during the ride.

These commentaries are multi-language, which is extremely helpful for non-English speakers. Some of these languages are French, German, and Malay.

I asked some customers what they thought about Perth Explorer’s staff. Most praised the bus drivers for their friendliness and professionalism.

One customer told me that their driver kept the mood of the crowd high by cracking some jokes along the route.

However, while many praise the staff for their professionalism, some have complaints about the buses.

They told me that the sound systems installed on the buses were too weak to hear the commentaries clearly. Some of Perth Explorer’s buses are also in dire need of replacement as they are too old to keep running efficiently.
