Opening Hours: Open 24 hours

One of the most interesting places in Australia is the Pinnacles Desert, where thousands of huge limestone pillars rise from shifting yellow sands.

The Pinnacles transports visitors to a new dimension as they travel through Nambung National Park, which runs alongside the Turquoise Coast. The discovery centre is located nearby, too.

Beautiful beaches, coastal dune systems, shady groves of tuart trees, and low heathlands with plants can be found in the park. From August to October, these plants produce vibrantly coloured flowers as well.

The centre serves as a gateway into the park, providing a walking path and an interpretive centre – this is where you’re encouraged to use all of your senses to find the desert’s hidden wonders.

This desert, which draws over 250,000 people a year, is about 190 hectares in size and 60 metres above sea level. It’s also home to thousands of limestone pinnacles, some of which reach heights of 5 metres.

Visitors can get to The Pinnacles by car or tour bus on a fully sealed road.

It also takes at least 2 hours to walk the viewing trail and get to the lookout, so visitors should plan ahead – you might want to have a podiatrist on your contact list in case of a potential foot-related injury.

The fee to get into the park is $15 per passenger vehicle, paid at the gate. There are discounts for seniors, too.

However, the 4 km loop is insufficient for towing caravans and trailers. Don’t worry, they can be left in the parking lot.

There are parking spaces available at various locations along a one-way drive. This is for people who want to pause and take a stroll through the intriguing Pinnacles desert.

Within the park’s boundaries, just remember that it’s not permitted to camp, have pets, or have open fires. Moreover, it’s best not to climb on the pinnacles to show respect.

We also recommend you bring a hat, sunscreen, and water, especially in the summer, on a trip to the Pinnacles. Obviously, it can get really hot in the desert.

Learn about the Wilderness at the Ghost House Walk Trail

Address: Ghost House Rd, Yanchep WA 6035, Australia

Opening Hours: Whole day

Located an hour north of Perth in Yanchep National Park, the Ghost House Walk Trail takes you on a tour to learn about the natural and cultural heritage of the wilderness.

We advise you to bring lots of water and a packed lunch and snacks – it will take most of the day to finish this 12.4 km trail!

The boardwalk Wetlands Route, which borders North Lake and leads you through a wetlands area filled with bird life, is where you may access the Ghost House Walk.

This trail, which travels through tuart forests, banksia forests, and coastal heath, offers lots of interesting variation.

This is ideal for those who sit with their gadgets all day. Even computers need occasional downtime or maintenance work; it won’t hurt for you to get a visual and mental break, too.

After the route ends at Cabaret Cave, it’s only a short distance to Yanchep’s central business district. We suggest eating lunch or stopping here for a cup of coffee or a cold beer.

The Koala Boardwalk is one of Yanchep’s attractions, too. It’s interesting to see that koalas are picky eaters who will only eat certain kinds of eucalyptus leaves.

Yanchep is one of the few locations where you can observe them because they’re not indigenous to Western Australia. On your route from McNess House to the trailhead, you’ll travel past the koala feed plantation.

Overall, after your stroll, you may consider renting a boat to row across the lake (seasonal), going on a guided tour of the caves, seeing the koalas, or having a barbecue in the park with the kangaroos.

Opening Hours: Wednesday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Do you like mini-golf? Open from Wednesdays to Sundays at 10 am to 4:30 pm, the 18-hole Chillisaurus mini-golf course is surrounded by amusing dinosaur statues.

Kids and adults of all ages can enjoy this fun sport. A family pass for 4 people is also available to save more money.

The carpet, dinosaurs, wall paintings, and even the golf balls all glow in the dark. For us, this is an opportunity to let your inner photographer shine and take creative pictures with their colourful location.

Plus, the site is fully air-conditioned and has heated indoors, so it seems easy to get comfortable while you’re playing.

We also suggest visiting their cafe on site. They offer breakfast or brunch, afternoon tea, daily specials with burgers and fries, and more.

They’re open every day of the year, too. So rain or shine, this activity looks like an ideal pastime for all.

Wander through the Crystal Cave

Website: https://parks.dpaw.wa.gov.au/site/crystal-cave

Address: Yanchep WA 6035, Australia

Opening Hours: Monday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Fees: Starts at AU$12.00

To visit Perth’s only urban tourist cave, sign up for a wonderful 45-minute guided tour. Flowstones, columns, shawls, stalactites, stalagmites, and helictites are just a few of the natural cave decorations found at Yanchep National Park’s Crystal Cave.

With the steady pace of the tour, we think you’ll have enough time to immerse yourself in the darkness and your surroundings. In a way, this is a chance for you to meditate in the cave.

However, there are a couple of stairs to navigate, so we believe a moderate level of fitness may be required. To prepare, it’s best to get more active and fit by doing yoga or Pilates a few weeks before the tour.

Also, due to the nature of this location and tour, keep in mind that this may not be an ideal option for wheelchair users.

We think you’ll have tons of opportunity to visit since the cave is open for tours throughout the year. The McNess House Visitor Center is where you can get tickets at least 15 minutes before the tour starts.

The fees are $12 for concession rates, $16 for adults, $8 for children (6 to 14 years old), and free for infants (0 to 5 years old).

Perth’s newest seaside destination is centred around Shorehaven’s Treasure Island Adventure Playground.

In addition to climbing, swinging, and sliding, the playground has a lovely treasure hunt that takes place around the unique island and shipwreck equipment.

Fun fact: the nearby coastline served as inspiration for this nautical-themed playground. We think this gives kids an almost real Treasure Island experience that will keep their imaginations going for hours.

For us, it’s much more than just a playground. We recommend this for parents who want their kids to have a sharper mind while also having fun.

Kids are free to search for clues, solve riddles, and finish the treasure hunt by using their wits and senses – while also making friends.

On top of that, this location uses custom-made, hand-made, and repurposed materials. This is so kids of all ages can play while advocating for the planet.

And there you go! We hope you find the best things to do in and around Wanneroo, Perth. May you and your kids have a delightful experience!
