The 5 Clinics with the Best Psychologists in Perth

The 6 Clinics with the Best Psychologists in Perth

How We Chose

Credentials

We only chose practitioners who are registered psychologists. Furthermore, we checked their educational backgrounds and other information such as any relevant history.

Experience

We based this on the years in the industry and areas of expertise of each psychologist.

Offered Services

Since mental health has a broad range of therapies available, we chose the top clinics that offer various psychotherapy services that are suitable to many patients.

Facilities

Since a comfortable environment is a crucial factor in the overall experience of the patient, we only chose clinics with good and cosy facilities.

Patient Satisfaction

We chose clinics with a minimum 4-star rating in sources such as, but not limited to, Google Reviews, and positive feedback from their previous patients.

  • NDIS-registered provider
  • Online one-on-one sessions are available
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

The Centre of Psychological Enrichment (COPE) is a small practice in West Perth made up of four experienced psychologists. Their perfect Google and Facebook Reviews scores are what made us curious enough to check them out.

At the helm of COPE is Dr Hugo Gonazles, who has over 25 years of experience in psychotherapy. It’s notable that in the past two decades, he has gained an extensive background in treating a wide range of issues.

Furthermore, Dr Gonzales has honed his skill in using several types of therapy like behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy, among others. He has used these techniques to treat anxiety disorders, PTSD, depression, and personality disorders.

We are big fans of their play therapy and art therapy for kids and adolescents since these modes may help them open up more. Besides that, we also appreciate that Dr Gonzales offers workshops for organisations for a fun and interactive approach to building skills and relationships.

Another thing that we like about COPE is that they offer group therapy sessions which are great for couples and families. In addition, they also conduct support groups, stress management groups, OCD and depression groups for adults, as well as educational group programs.

Upon talking to Dr Gonzales, we were glad to learn that he offers both short-term and long-term therapies for his patients, utilising his repertoire of strategies to best support them.

As for the patients we have surveyed, they have noted satisfaction in their modes of therapy with COPE. Furthermore, they were especially happy with how they were assessed and the empathy and support they received during therapy.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Offers online therapy
  • Offers outcalls

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Relatively new to the industry

Humanique is a psychological therapy and counselling centre that was established in 2018. While they are quite new to the industry, they quickly became a top choice due to their affordability and location.

Dr Dale Shresta is the principal psychologist and partner of Humanique, and she mainly focuses on adult patients, providing evidence-based approaches to their treatments. Some examples of her approach are Interpersonal Therapy, ACT, Skills training, Schema Therapy, and CBT.

Another good point about them is their affordable treatment rates, which are relatively lower than other clinics in the area. Notably, a session only ranges from $170 to $210 before Medicare or Private Health rebates.

It’s also noteworthy that they stay true to their commitment to providing an accessible mental health service. In addition to their low session fees, they do not impose additional fees for weekends and after-hours bookings.

Based on our surveys, we noticed that the patients at Humanique appreciate the approach of their doctors during treatment. We are glad to note that the patients here felt supported by the staff, and they also appreciate the frankness and directness of their approach during sessions.

Overall, we think that Humanique is a good clinic that provides a confidential and non-judgmental space for their patience, plus the convenience of online therapy and outcalls when needed.

Pros

  • Offers telehealth sessions
  • Has over 30 years of experience

Cons

  • Has only three specialists
  • Can improve their booking process

Wisdom Health offers psychotherapy services that are centred and based on the unique needs of their clients. They have vast expertise in treating patients with persistent pain, chronic health conditions, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and different forms of Depression and Anxiety.

Notably, they are committed to practising mindfulness, and their practitioners are greatly experienced in meditation. They also offer a wide range of evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, depending on which suits the patients, such as:

  • Metacognitive Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Positive Psychology
  • Supportive Psychotherapy
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Wisdom Health currently has three psychologists in its team. The most experienced of them is Dr Robert Segal, a clinician with over 30 years of experience in individual and group psychological therapies for ages 16 and above.

We like that Dr Robert has gained extensive experience dealing with a wide range of mental health issues. He has a wide range of expertise in tackling relationship issues, severe mood and emotional dysregulation problems, substance abuse, PTSD, and eating disorders.

Notably, Dr Robert also focuses on schema therapy to identify and address the root cause of each patient’s problem. He is also a Psychology Board of Australia-approved supervisor, meaning he can provide supervision for psychological trainees.

While we were not able to gain information on Dr Robert Segal’s rates, we are happy to learn that he is registered for Medicare and health fund rebates. However, missed sessions require full payments, while cancellations of less than 24 hours prior are subject to a cancellation fee.

Honestly, we feel like the biggest downside to Wisdom Health is its limited number of practitioners. Since their psychologists manage their bookings, patients may encounter some challenges when there is a large volume of patients.

  • Inviting and cosy faciltiies
  • Affordable rates
  • Has unique services such as Yoga Therapy
  • Has expertise in Forensic Psychology & Perinatal Psychology

Cons

  • Located in an old building with no wheelchair access
  • Closed on Sundays

Perth Psychology Collective is directed and founded by Dr Kirstin Bouse. Her main focus in treatment and therapy is on new parents facing difficulties, and also on patients with perinatal mental health issues,

Interestingly, Dr Kirstin’s expertise has a curious combination of forensic issues such as child protection, family court, offending behaviour, cases related to trauma, and mental health issues related to parenting and motherhood.

She is also focused on training other psychologists in their forensic assessment and intervention skills while offering internships to masters and doctoral practitioners at Perth Psychology Collective.

When we surveyed some patients, they mentioned that Dr Kirstin made them feel safe, and they appreciated her efforts in connecting with them. It is also -appreciated that she likes using humour in therapy while remaining respectful to her patients.

Another thing that we like about Perth Psychology Collective is its facilities. They have cosy clinics and an inviting reception area where patients can even make coffee or tea.

We think that one of the things that make this centre stand out is its unique offerings, one of which is its Yoga Therapy. In this mode of therapy, the Yoga Specialists help patients gain mental clarity by creating a suitable routine based on symptoms each patient would like to target.

Last, we appreciate that Perth Psychology Collective offers its services at affordable rates that range from $150 to $254 per session. The rate varies depending on the time of consultation and the qualifications of the chosen practitioner.

We also think it’s great that patients on a budget can choose a cheaper counselling session. The Provisionally Registered Psychologists in their Intern Program cost only $110 per session.

  • Counselling sessions online and through phone are available
  • Christ-centred counselling

Cons

  • Varying schedules
  • Has only 2 Registered Psychologists on the team
  • Closed on weekends

Connections Counselling is a team that consists of psychologists, counsellors, and life coaches. Their mission is to promote their patients’ relational, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being through Christ-centred counselling.

One of the most experienced psychologists on the team is Dr Kristy Felsea. She has over 15 years of experience and has worked with a wide range of clients such as children, adolescents, young adults, couples, parents, and families.

Notably, Dr Kirsten has postgraduate qualifications in Counselling Bereaved Children and Grief & Palliative Care Counselling. She uses targeted methods in therapy to help her patients deal with challenges and the impact of their faith in reaching their unique potential.

We like that she does modules in Art & Expressive Therapy for her patients. This mode is especially great for her young patients since it helps them open up easily during the session.

It’s also noteworthy that Connections Counselling has established group programs and workshops, which are open to participants worldwide. One notable program is their Hope Alive Group Therapy, where participants can find support through group counselling.

On the downside, information on their fees are not available since it varies depending on the services and assigned personnel. However, we were glad to find out that the counsellors adjust their fees, depending on the income of their patient.

Pros

  • Has multiple locations
  • A Single Expert Witness (SEW) for the Family Court of Western Australia and has served the Family Court in this capacity since 2011
  • A member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society

Cons

  • Perth location is not used for consulting

Dr. Kevin Pyle used to operate under the The Kairos Institute that has been successfully operating in Perth from 2010 to 2015. He then decided to change the name of the clinic in order to reflect his advances with new technology.

Dr. Pyle specializes in the treatment of depression and anxiety in all its forms. What great about his is that recently, special emphasis has been placed on the treatment of pre and post operative anxiety and work/career performance anxiety.

We prefer him over others because he does not only use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Biofeedback therapy, and mindfulness, but also other supportive technologies that can give you the best possible outcomes of your situation.

Aside from this, they are one of the few clinics that continuously go with the advances in technology. Some of the technology used in their treatments are Spire, Thync technology, Neurosky, Muse, Heart Math Inner Balance, and eSense Skin Response.

If you want to read more about these, you may click here.

The only catch here is that they are closed from Fridays to Sundays so make sure to free your schedule before consulting with them.
