best-orthopaedic-specialist-perth

Find your footing again with the best orthopaedic specialists in Perth!

Experience: Using profiles, registries, and hospital or clinic affiliations, we picked doctors with close to or beyond a decade of experience, weighing surgical tenure heavily.

The number of patients they successfully treated also mattered, especially those who underwent complex procedures like ACL repairs or joint replacements.

Qualifications: Governing bodies like AOA, AHPRA, and the Medical Board of Australia helped us verify if the candidates hold the proper medical degrees, certifications, and fellowships.

Extra points were granted to doctors with peer-reviewed publications and/or awards.

Accessibility: We favoured clinics with convenient locations across Perth, virtual consultation options, and flexible scheduling, all confirmed using direct inquiries, test drives, interviews, and personal experience.

Communication Skills: Bedside manners, staff professionalism, responsiveness, and clarity of explanations were rated through experience and interviews.

Pricing: To gauge overall value and proximity to Perth’s typical range, we looked into published fees and insurance coverage, weighing them against the four other criteria.

When I wrote my sports clinics piece, I talked about how brutal it was for my sporty nephew when injuries hit him. Months later, I felt his pain.

My motion started feeling off, thanks to a persistent swelling around my shoulders. It made moving (especially writing) a bad reminder that I’m far from my 20s.

The suffering didn’t take ages, luckily. With my team’s help, I learned about the best orthopaedic specialists in Perth and landed on one who turned back the clock.

You can enjoy the same luxury by working with the seasoned doctors below, all flexing high success rates.

Complex cases don’t rattle the internationally trained Dr John Radic. His outcomes in meniscus repair and knee replacements (both half and full) are well established.

That’s why local and international athletes make up a good chunk of his portfolio. You’re looking at players from the English Premier League, AFL, The Royal Ballet, and more!

I believe the quality of his post-op care also attracts patients, even your regular Joes. Follow-up appointments are followed, advice is given in layman’s terms, and he works with physios to coordinate the rehab plan or recovery stage.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a line. Locking in same-day visits doesn’t happen often.

Appointments are also limited to weekdays, which is bad news for those slammed from Monday to Friday.

The workaround is opting for a telehealth consultation via Zoom. Just note that while it’s handy, more complicated cases require in-person meetings (this applies to every entry with virtual options).

Pros

  • Internationally trained
  • Over 10 years of experience in surgery
  • Strong post-op care and management
  • Offers virtual consultations

Cons

  • No weekend hours
  • High demand

My knee feels completely normal and strong

After already having ACL surgery 15yrs ago on my opposite knee I was dreading going through this all again But, this time around and with Dr Ross, “Did I even have major knee surgery?” I severed my ACL, 3 degree tear meniscus…10 months after surgery, My knee feels completely normal and strong. I couldn’t recommend DR Ross more and if you are thinking about having the surgery a great tip: LISTEN to Dr Ross and do everything he tells you to straight after surgery it will help your recovery so much.

Exceptional Care

We cannot thank Dr. Radic enough for the exceptional care and expertise he provided during my son’s Meniscus Repair surgery. From the very first appointment, Dr. Radic was incredibly accommodating, taking the time to explain every detail about the procedure and ensuring we felt confident and informed at every step.

The surgery went smoothly, and my son’s recovery is progressing well under Dr. Radic’s guidance. His professionalism, compassionate approach, and dedication to patient care have truly set him apart. We are deeply grateful for the positive experience and highly recommend Dr. Radic to anyone in need of an outstanding orthopaedic surgeon.

Beyond his expertise in reconstructive and arthroscopic techniques, Dr David Colvin cracked a spot here for being personable. Nearly every patient describes him as friendly and reassuring.

We’re yet to hear complaints about his post-op care either. Seeing as it’s a multi-stage process with accessible online resources and a slew of therapies (like stretching and hydro), that’s no surprise.

What makes it more effective is the reliable communication. Dr Colvin and his team generally explain every stage to their patients, with quick responses to boot.

Then there’s his experience; the doctor has been a surgeon since 2000, making him this review’s most experienced name. Over 20 years of working on knee and shoulder conditions, including ACL, dislocations, and meniscus tears, is no small feat.

As for snags, the high demand can slow things down, and there are no weekend hours, much like the previous entry.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Comprehensive post-op program
  • Responds quickly
  • Offers virtual consultations

Cons

  • High demand
  • No weekend hours

A Wonderful Outcome

My experience with my shoulder op with David was just superb from start to finish. His friendly manner and re-assurance at my first visit, his wonderful work in the theatre on what was a major tear and his team’s support in recovery including the wonderful resources on his website.

I cannot recommend David and his teams support more highly and you can be sure you will be in great hands and made to feel important at all times in the process. Thank you David for a wonderful outcome on my shoulder and for your super bedside manner and humour.

Punctual and Welcoming

I was in pain for 18 months with bad impingement. My physio was reluctant for surgery due to two previous surgeries for unrelated conditions which is a reasonable concern. Surgery was a gamble but an educated one and I bit the bullet. Noticed as soon as I was allowed to move the arm that the target pain was gone, and from then on it was recovering from the surgery itself. I’m now three months post op and it went text book. Feels much better. As for Dave and his lovely receptionists they are simply good humans and you don’t feel like a number. Always punctual and welcoming.

Dr Rhys Clark stays up-to-date with the latest methods. The majority of his surgeries are robot-assisted, meaning they come with perks like reduced discomfort, shorter hospital stays, and top-tier precision.

Still, it’s the results we valued more, and he has a notable record in knee and hip replacements. Some patients even noticed improvements as early as 2 weeks after their surgery!

Distance might be an issue for most, though, as Dr Clark’s main practice location is 21 minutes from the Perth CBD (by car). The other doctors are within 10–15 minutes of the city centre.

His no-nonsense approach can be hit or miss as well. Personally, I prefer his direct guidance, but a few found it a touch blunt.

It’s all good beyond that. The doctor has a solid service list (even handles orthopaedic oncology) and tenure, with his surgical career clocking at 6 years as of 2025.

Pros

  • Uses modern methods like robotics
  • Over 6 years of surgical experience
  • Can handle orthopaedic oncology cases
  • International fellow

Cons

  • Farthest clinic on this list (21 minutes from downtown Perth)
  • Approach may be too direct for some

Everything about the procedures is clearly communicated

I am writing this review nine weeks post surgery. I had a hip replacement a year ago and total knee replacement this September performed by Mr. Rhys Clark. Both procedures were positive experiences in every way. Mr. Clark is a no gap provider which pleasingly limits the unexpected expenses. Everything about the procedures is clearly communicated through an excellent handbook that is provided and his wonderful admin staff, who are extremely reassuring and answer questions comprehensively. I was particularly apprehensive about the knee replacement as I had heard of so many negative experiences first hand.My knee replacement went so smoothly. I came around from the anaesthetic so well, felt little pain but was expecting that to wear off. At worst I have had some swelling, stiffness and minor discomfort! Mr. Clark contacted me the day before surgery, phoned my husband when the surgery was completed and phoned just after I arrived home. The care that he provided was faultless. The patient also bears some responsibility in getting the most out of this amazing surgery. I spent a year before each surgery maximising my physical condition in a rehab gym and have also been guided by a fabulous physiotherapist. I am currently working on my strength in the rehab gym again.I am so grateful to Mr. Clark and everyone else involved for my successful recovery.

I won’t hesitate to come back

I cannot thank Dr Rhys Clark nor his wonderful staff enough for fixing up my knee and giving me back quality of life without pain after my torn meniscus kept me in excruciating pain for

Months.

I hope I don’t ever need your services ever again – but if I do I won’t hesitate to come back and will recommend you to others!

Thank you ever so much.

Accessibility is one of Dr David Wysocki’s biggest assets. Unlike most doctors here, he offers daily private and public appointments, a boon made even better by his main practice area being just 8 minutes from the city centre.

Not every ortho focuses on lower limb trauma surgery, either. Say your lower extremities suffer fractures or tissue damage, he’s a suitable pick, especially since he’s supported by a physiotherapist (like these clinics).

Credentials-wise, his notable ones include Canadian and Australian fellowships, the latter obtained way back in 2014.

Equally impressive is his record. We bumped into elderly patients (one was 70-plus) who reported better movement after having their knee or hip replacement done by Dr Wysocki.

It’d be nice, however, if telehealth options were available and if his schedule wasn’t so packed. Lacking either keeps him from a perfect accessibility score.

The doctor’s sense of humour and his clear-cut explanations should remain, though.

Pros

  • Available daily
  • Focus on lower limb trauma
  • Local and international fellowships
  • Supported by a physiotherapist

Cons

  • No virtual appointments
  • High demand

Very Personable and Professional

Having suffered from osteoarthritis in both knees for a number of years I finally (after getting a positive referral from a friend) I had Dr Wysoki performed my first knee replacement in June 25. From my initial consult I found David to be very personable and professional with a great sense of humour.

David was upfront with what to expect after the surgery and the subsequent recovery period.

David was well thought of and respected by all the staff on the orthopaedic ward at the hospital. In summary I have rated David and his support staff a perfect 10 out of 10.

I have my other knee scheduled for February and have no qualms with David’s ability to achieve a similar outcome.

Explained Everything Clearly

Dr Wysocki has now performed 2 surgeries on me. He was very straight forward & knowledgeable, explained everything clearly & easy to understand. His follow up after surgery was excellent, as were the surgeries. Dr Wysocki was very proffesional & put my mind at ease. My recoveries were better than I expected. Dr Wysocki’s personal assistant Alicia was also proffesional & very helpful.

I would recommend Dr Wysocki to anybody needing hip or knee surgery.

Dr Wae Chiri’s expertise is treating hand/shoulder problems via surgical and non-surgical options. That’s the very reason I chose him and why I typed this piece pain-free.

His other patients say the same, including those who had their elbows and wrists sorted out.

Another neat thing is that one of his practice areas, Perth Carpal Tunnel Clinic, offers pros like pre-consultation EMG/NCS tests. The neurologist who does it is just next door, so coordinating results is often a breeze.

Patient support is reliable, too. The centre is contactable via phone and email, and, from experience, they address concerns fast.

That said, Dr Chiri may not be the ideal specialist for those seeking surgeons with a decade of experience. He started operating in 2022, yes, but there are more seasoned options featured here.

Weekday bookings are a must as well. He takes a breather on Saturdays and Sundays.

Pros

  • Can perform surgical and non-surgical procedures
  • Provides extra perks like EMG tests
  • Can sometimes accommodate last-minute appointments
  • Fast response via email and phone

Cons

  • Relatively shorter career
  • Weekend closure

Awesome Surgeon

BRILLIANT! I had a reverse shoulder replacement 13/11/25 worn a sling less than a week I no longer use it and can practically do everything am able to even make a bed and dress myself, I am working on the strength side of things but in all my movements are great.

I experienced little pain the worst maybe 3 days after partly due to frustration.

Wael is was fantastic with a smile 😃 AWESOME surgeon.

Thank you

His professionalism is evident

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Dr Wael Chiri & the Team at POSC through the initial consultation, followed by Carpal Tunnel release Surgery shortly after, and I can’t speak highly enough of the experience.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and incredibly welcoming team. The administrative staff were not only efficient but also genuinely friendly, making the check-in process a breeze and immediately putting me at ease.

Dr. Wael Chiri himself, is truly outstanding. His professionalism is evident from consultation to post Op, in every interaction he’s knowledgeable, thorough, and takes the time to explain everything clearly and patiently. What truly sets him apart, however, is his wonderful manner. He has a calming presence, listens attentively to all concerns, and makes you feel truly heard and respected. It’s clear he genuinely cares about his patients’ well-being before & after surgery.

The entire team at POSC mirrors Dr Wael Chiri’s commitment to excellent patient care. Everyone I encountered was kind, & courteous, it’s rare to find a medical practice where every single person, from the front desk to the doctor, exudes such genuine care and professionalism.

I highly recommend Dr. Wael Chiri and his entire practice to anyone seeking top-notch medical care delivered with compassion and a truly positive attitude. Thank you, and your incredible team, for such a wonderful experience!
