Pros
- Colourful Tiki culture theme
- Fun and quirky decorations and mugs
- Offers a good range of drinks with secret recipes
- Tropical holiday feel for all events
Cons
- Small venue and entrance
- May be a bit overpriced
- The dress code may feel restricting
If you want to experience an exotic nightclub in Perth, Hula Bula Bar is a little paradise continuing the culture of the Tiki Lounge from the ’50s and ’60s.
They offer a good range of rum cocktails, beer, cider, spirits, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. We like that some of these also include their secret recipes to make the customers’ experience unique and memorable.
Their colourful bar, with quirky Polynesian masks and palm trees, also adds to the entertaining ambience of their space. Several customers commend their incredible attention to detail for their decor.
Hula Bula Bar’s fun theme is also seen on their wonderfully-designed Tiki mugs.
Nonetheless, some customers thought some drinks and mugs were overpriced. These beverages may also take some time to prepare – some had to wait over 10 minutes.
Moreover, they’re available only 3 nights a week. But whenever they open, this nightclub is suitable for celebrations, casual drinks, and work functions for a tropical holiday experience.
Our advice is to come a bit early. Their venue (and entrance) is small compared to most nightclubs in Perth, so there may already be a long line if you get there late.
Hula Bula Bar also has a dress code – they expect neat, casual clothing at all times. This may be a little restricting to some customers.
On Fridays and Saturdays, they prohibit scruffy shorts, thongs, singlets, sportswear, hi-vis, and shabby clothing. Footwear must be worn at all times throughout the week.

Pros
- The location is ideal for performers, dancers, and drinkers
- Catered to the young and hip
- Broad selection of alcoholic drinks
- Their food selection is substantial
Cons
- Doesn’t accept cash
- Some customers smoke in the backyard
The Bird is among the trendy nightclubs in Perth, ideal for performers, dancers, drinkers, conversationalists, and the like. Their location is conveniently near the train station too.
More than a bar, they provide a hip live music venue and an art space with exposed brick walls. Some say the scene is fit for the young and funky, backpackers, employees after work, and lovers.
Prospects can also check their live music calendar for upcoming events and artists. Many can explore different music genres, especially indie.
Previous customers appreciate their broad selection of alcoholic drinks as well. These are classified into Bubbles, White, Pink & Orange, Red, Cocktails, On Tap, Ale & Lager, Dark, Sours, and Ginger Beer.
Their food selection is also filling and substantial. This includes cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, shaker fries, Buffalo fried cauliflowers, and buttermilk chicken wings.
While most of their services are decent, they’re only available twice a week – Sundays and Mondays from 3 pm until late.
If this bothers you, be aware of passive smokers in the backyard because they often make a crowd at the back. The place gets full later in the night, with long lines outside at the bar.
To avoid the hassle, we recommend preparing to pay online beforehand since The Bird doesn’t accept cash.

Pros
- Caters to numerous touring acts, functions, and special events
- Extensive range of beverage and catering options
- Holds special events and applies themes to drinks
- Their live music features various musical genres
Cons
- Limited parking space
- Gets crowded easily
Located in the basement at Wolf Lane, The Sewing Room is one of the nightclubs in Perth that caters to a good number of touring acts, functions, and special events.
They can accommodate almost any event with their extensive range of beers, wines, cocktails, mixers, and catering options. They can also host various functions 7 nights a week.
Their drinks may also depend on the event or theme for the night. For example, their Chocolate & Wine Masterclass mainly offers red, white, sparkling, and dessert wines.
Their live music also features various musical genres, primarily supporting original music and club nights. They also have a good sound system, playing the songs in high quality for everyone’s enjoyment.
We like that The Sewing Room recognises the changing face of music, where traditional instruments are no longer required to sound great. Some only bring a laptop, and all the magic happens there.
Take note that some of their events get sold out quickly, and many are left waiting to buy tickets outside. One customer also felt claustrophobic because it was way too crowded at one point.
Another thing to consider is their limited parking space outside Wolf Lane. This can get filled easily during peak hours.

Pros
- Open 4 days a week
- Award-winning nightclub since 2005
- Has on-tap beers and local and international drinks
- Offers discounts and membership perks
Cons
- No parking space right outside
- Services might be a bit pricey
Universal Bar is among the award-winning nightclubs in Perth. They have a long list of recognitions from 2005 as a superb late-night venue.
Their food consists of the classic Mediterranean chicken salad, chicken parmigiana, fish and chips, pizza, and burgers.
Many also appreciate their wide range of beverages. They provide on-tap beers, local and international bottled drinks, cocktails, and wines.
We advise checking their website and social media pages before scheduling your visit – they offer discounts on food and cocktails from time to time.
In addition, becoming a Universal Bar VIP member can also provide a 10% discount on all food and beverage purchases. You may also receive a $50 voucher plus a bottle of sparkling one when you book a function.
Our advice is to make the most of these discounts – some customers thought this club’s typical pricing leans on the expensive side.
Nevertheless, we like that the interiors also have neon lights, booths, and warehouse-style fixtures, contributing to their lively ambience.
The venue has been renovated a few times too. The Back Bar area was constructed,
doubling the capacity of the venue and creating a fantastic private bar area for guests’ functions.
But, there isn’t a parking space outside Universal Bar, so customers can park in front of another nearby establishment. This may be pretty limited, though.

Pros
- 3-in-1 nightclub (live music venue, late bar, and function space)
- Their menu covers most dietary requirements
- Reasonable pricing
- Flexible dress code
- Adequate parking
Cons
- The place may be a bit old and rundown
- Opens only twice a week
If you’re looking for a 3-in-1 nightclub in Perth, Badlands Bar is among our top options for a live music venue, late bar, and function space.
Their menu includes burgers, deep-fried mac n’ cheese balls, and sweet potato fries. Many commend that their food options cover all dietary requirements from vegetarian, vegan, gluten, and lactose-free.
They also have a good range of beers from Emu Export to Gage Roads Single Fin, Feral Biggie Juice, Cooper Pale Ale, ciders, spirits, and wines at reasonable prices.
For instance, this bar’s house speciality Salted Caramel Espresso Jartinis (martinis served in a jar) only cost $11, as do their Passionfruit Mojitos. This is priced lower than the average cocktail in Perth.
Their dress code is also flexible to anything you’re comfortable in, as long as you wear shoes on both feet.
Badlands Bar is open twice weekly (every Friday and Saturday night), but they’re available for hire on other days. There’s also adequate parking space on-site and nearby.
Alternatively, they’re a 1-minute walk from McIver train station (on the Midland and Armadale lines) or a 10-minute walk from Perth train station.
Transperth Blue CAT buses also conveniently stop around 500 metres from their front door.
One of the only drawbacks is that several customers think their place is a bit old and run down, needing some attention for improvement.
