While most tourists flock to the famous Kings Park for its sweeping views of the city and the Swan River, we believe only a few know about the greenery within its spacious area.
If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, then we think the Botanical Garden is the place to be.
For us, you’ll likely be amazed by the diverse range of native flora and fauna that thrives around here as you wander through them.
You might find yourself in awe of the towering eucalyptus trees, colourful wildflowers, and exotic plants that are unique to this region.
And if you’re lucky, you might even spot some of the local wildlife that calls the gardens home. Just keep an eye out for bandicoots, possums, and a variety of bird species that flit between the branches.
Moreover, those who want to have a quiet time to reflect may take a leisurely stroll through the gardens. Breathe in the fresh air and soak up the serenity of this hidden oasis!
Next up in Kings Park is the Lotterywest Federation Walkway. We like this unique structure because it takes guests on a journey through the treetops, providing a bird’s eye view of the city and the surrounding landscape.
Fun fact: The walkway stretches for over 600 metres and has a stunning steel-arched bridge that spans across a section of the park!

But for those who are afraid of heights, don’t worry! The walkway is designed to be accessible to all, with gentle inclines and easy-to-navigate steps. So take your time, bring your good camera, and snap photos like a professional photographer.
Finally, the DNA Tower This iconic tower is also a beloved landmark in Kings Park. If you love science, you might be interested to know that this tower stands 15 metres tall and resembles a DNA molecule!
In our opinion, climbing to the top of the tower isn’t for the faint-hearted, but the views from the top are worth the effort. Here, you can see the entire cityscape of Perth from the summit, including the Swan River and the distant hills.
If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend taking the DNA Tower’s spiral staircase back down to the bottom. This may provide you with a thrilling descent!

And if you’re feeling peckish, we suggest making your way to Il Lido Italian Canteen. For us, it’s a hidden gem located just a stone’s throw from the beach.
This cosy restaurant is nestled in a quiet residential street and also serves some of the best Italian food in Perth, in our opinion. We think health buffs would also appreciate that they serve dishes that highlight fresh, seasonal ingredients.
From wood-fired pizzas to homemade pasta, every dish seems to be packed with flavour. They have an extensive wine list as well, featuring a range of local and international wines that we believe would pair well with your meals!

Moreover, what we like most about Kalamunda is the abundance of locally made products. If you’re looking for a gift for your loved ones, you can get anything from handcrafted pottery to artisanal chocolates and preserves.
Make sure to stop by the Kalamunda Artisan Market as well. Apart from having 130 growers and makers all over the state, they told us that the money made from the market goes to charity!
