The best dog parks in Perth are zoomie-friendly!
There’s no shortage of things to love about Perth, but if you ask me, its dog-friendliness takes the cake. Tiny fluffball or gentle giant, every pup gets a fair go here.
I mean, just look at the city’s pup-inclusive parks, specifically those made for flopping and sprinting alike. They’re undeniably paw-some.
Picking one is no easy trick, though, considering you have more than twenty names to check out. To solve that, we made a lowdown of the top ones only, all fur parent-approved.
Whiteman Park Dog Park
– From your.highn3ss
Address: Whiteman Park, 233a Drumpellier Dr, Whiteman
Contact Details: +61 8 9209 6001
Operating Hours: Daily – 8:30 am to 6 pm
Whiteman Park, within the Mussel Pool East precinct, offers 2.5 hectares of zoomie-friendly space. It’s gated (like these fenced dog parks), comes with water points, and has an obstacle course, so letting the dogs out without a leash is valid.
It’s a neat location for breathers and getting physical, too. Mature trees cover the grassy expanse, and the 500-metre perimeter walkway is fab for afternoon strolls.
Tip: Scout their Facebook posts to learn about the park’s shifting hours. |
Forrest Park
– From rrrachelhunterrr
Address: Cnr Walcott &, Curtis St, Mount Lawley
Contact Details: +61 8 6210 1690
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
As an approved dog exercise area, Forrest Park is a proper spot for pups (or parents) with zoomies to burn. Shade and seating are available, meaning you can always go for a lazy sit-down.
Early morning is our suggested go-time. Though you’ll likely bump into a few bikers and joggers (and kids on weekends), it’s generally a dead peaceful period.
Tip: Bring your cricket or soccer kit. There’s space for both. |
Woodville Reserve
– From greenonthegofoodtruck
Address: Namur St
Contact Details: +61 8 9273 6000
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Woodville Reserve is made for picnics and runs. Towering fig trees line the manicured lawn, while fences keep the runners from getting into sticky predicaments.
The sweet bonus is lounging with the river in view. You can even grill up a storm as the tots dart across the playground or practice rallies at the tennis courts.
Tip: Parking is a bit limited. Stopping by in the morning can fix that. |
Piney Lakes Dog Play Park
– From big_ears_leia
Address: WRXR+5F, 555 Leach Hwy, Winthrop
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Fifty acres of bushland is what Piney Lakes brings to the table. And no, it doesn’t end with the green views, as your pooches can also tackle the Aussie-made agility equipment.
The horse arena sand makes turbo time extra stable as well. Just keep them on a lead and the bitumen path when entering the bush, lest you want them to chase bandicoots.
Tip: Driving is a smart move; the parking lot here is spacious. |
Kings Park and Botanic Garden
– From kingsparkandbotanicgarden
Address: Fraser Ave
Contact Details: +61 8 9480 3600
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Kings Park and Botanic Garden is nearly 400 hectares big, and only the Rio Tinto, Lotterywest Federation walkway, and playground areas are off-limits. That leaves you with enough space to enjoy the gardens and bushland walking trails.
Dogs must be on a lead, though, and the leash shouldn’t exceed two metres. Pretty fine deal, if you ask me, considering entry costs nada, and you get to smell and see native flora.
Tip: You’ll enjoy the Swan River’s nippy breeze by visiting around late afternoon. |
Menzies Park
– From the_furry_framptons
Address: 121 Purslowe St, Mount Hawthorn
You’ve likely caught us having a footy, cricket, or fetch sesh at Menzies Park. The open and flat grassland is mint for such activities.
It’s also an official dog exercise zone. Off-leash fun is in the books, except when there’s a sporting event happening.
On top of that, the young ones get to play in a covered playground. The only snag is that the slide is too steep for the smaller bunch; best to stay close.
Tip: Free BBQs are available. Take something to grill. |
Dianella Dog Park
– From jobi_wan_kenobi_bully
Address: Dianella Regional Open Space
Operating Hours: Daily – 6 am to 9 pm
All of our pups are safe and happy whenever we’re at Dianella Dog Park. See, two enclosed spaces are available here: one for small dogs and one for the bigger fellas.
It’s not an empty stretch of grass and trees either. Obstacle courses, water fountains, seats, and sandy sections are around.
Tip: The park offers free poo bins and bags. You’ll find them at the gate. |
Riverside Gardens
– From allibdouglass
Address: King William St, Bayswater
Contact Details: +61 8 9272 0622
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
One bit of advice: pack extra clothes (and water bottles) if you’re hitting Riverside Gardens (or these dog beaches). It’ll be hard to stop your pup from splashing around here, thanks to the river access.
Don’t worry if yours isn’t fond of dipping; there’s a separate enclosed place for running around. Plus, you can always relax under the trees while soaking in those famed Swan River views.
Tip: Food trucks swarm the place on weekends. |
Charles Veryard Reserve
– From chloe.themalshi
Address: 6 Bourke St, North Perth
Contact Details: +61 8 9273 6034
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Close to Smiths Lake, Charles Veryard Reserve is one of my personal picks for off-lead dog walks (east side only). The charming neighbourhood vibe adds to the appeal.
Most of the essentials are here, too: toilets, drinking areas, public gym kit, an oval for cricket aficionados, and Pokémon (if you’re still into Pokémon Go).
Tip: Got kids? They’ll love the playground! |
Warndoolier
– From thethriftymumma_
Address: 60 Joel Terrace, Mount Lawley
Contact Details: +61 8 9273 6000
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Warndoolier’s amphitheatre and dog exercise area (found at the southern end) are too pretty to skip. Its well-shaded riverside location only makes both better.
My favourite bits, though, are the revamped playground, skate ramp, open grasslands, and fishing platforms. So yeah, my pup and I rarely yawn here.
Tip: You can play basketball. The court doesn’t see too many hoopers. |
Harmony Fields Dog Park
– From michelletaaffe535
Address: Harmony Fields, Maddington
Contact Details: +61 8 9397 3000
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
When it comes to safety, Harmony Fields sets the bar high. A 1.8-metre-tall fence runs the perimeter, so sneaky escapes are only possible if your pooches are secretly superheroes.
They might not get any notion of leaving anyway, with the park having an agility course and varied surfaces to play with. Besides, watering points are within the area, keeping them refreshed all the time.
Tip: You can stay until 10 pm. Those floodlights are reliable. |
Jack Marks Reserve
– From husky_luney
Address: 80/114 Wright St, Highgate
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
The fully enclosed Jack Marks Reserve is among the shadiest spots in town. That’s no dig, as it’s genuinely a breeze to cool off here with all the big and lush trees about.
Another label it’s worthy of is “a steal.” Entry, parking, water, and doggy bags don’t cost a dime.
Tip: It’s less crowded once the clock hits 6 pm. |
Point Walter
– From suzie_the_labkelpie
Address: Unit 2/10 Burke Dr, Attadale
Contact Details: +61 8 9364 0666
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
If your pups love wading about but aren’t the strongest swimmers, Point Walter just might be the spot to hit. The swimming area is shallow, with Melville Water vistas to boot.
Pre- or post-dip, you can take them out for a stroll along the trails and open spaces. Going the off-lead route is also fine.
The cherry on top? Once your pals had their fill, make a beeline for the jetty and try your luck at reeling in flathead, black bream, flounder, herring, or something else.
Tip: You can launch paddleboards here. |
Britannia Road Reserve
– From annesnapshot\
Address: Britannia Rd, Mount Hawthorn
Contact Details: +61 8 9273 6000
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Britannia Road Reserve is child-, dog-, and adventure-friendly. Kiddos can tear up the 1.2-km pump track or go nuts on the playground, while fur babies get their sniff-athon on the oval.
Of course, grown-ups get their share of fun. The oval is flat and easy, so soccer or cricket matches will always be on the cards (unless an actual match is going on).
Tip: Lots of cricket players flock here on weekends. Avoid that period if you don’t want to compete for space. |
Les Lilleyman Reserve
– From ellie_the_mini_labradoodle
Address: North Perth
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Fur parents who hate scorching-hot parks will probably fall in love with Les Lilleyman Reserve. Trees are abundant in this approved dog exercise area, and the cool part is that they cover the workout zones and picnic tables as well.
Beyond that, sprouts can get busy on the fenced playground with natural play elements and climbing courses. A drinking fountain (for dogs and humans) stands outside it, so getting water couldn’t be simpler.
Tip: You can book the reserve for a private function. |
