James Jackson knows courtrooms very well, given his 19-plus years of appellate and trial experience.

It’s obvious from the way he communicates. His knowledge of WA’s criminal justice system is deep, but his explanations and instructions are laid out plainly.

All cases are billed on a fixed rate basis, too, meaning clients don’t get burdened by unpredictable or hourly fees.

The problem is that he operates solo. You may have to wait to lock in a meeting and rely on a single viewpoint.

On top of that, consults aren’t free; initial ones will set you back $250 for 45 minutes.

As for whether it’s worthwhile, we’ll say yes. Clients whose cases had been downgraded, dropped, or suspended might say the same.

Winning high-stakes assault cases isn’t new to Chambers Legal Criminal Lawyers. They have clients who dodged immediate imprisonment and life imprisonment.

In terms of experience, the firm has practitioners such as Linda Maccarone and Karen Bamforth. The two joined the Supreme Court of WA in 2019 and 2018, respectively.

Staying power is where Curt Hofmann & Co outshines the other names here. The firm opened in 1983, and Curt himself has been a criminal lawyer for 45 years and more.

Of course, stellar results matter more, and they have those, judging by what our team heard and read. In early 2026, acquittals, charge dismissals, spent convictions, reduced sentences, and successful plea negotiations are what they’ve secured so far.

They rarely leave clients hanging, either. Curt and Katherine Dowling are said to be proactive and responsive, with someone often ready to take over when a lawyer isn’t around.

You can’t visit the office on weekends, though. The line is always on, yes, but being able to drop in on Saturdays and Sundays would be a bonus.
