OPENING HOURS | Tuesday – Thursday: 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM, Friday: 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM, Saturday: 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM, Sunday: 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM |
Tucked among Northbridge’s historic roofs, we believe The Mechanics Institute can provide an escape from your mundane 9 to 5.
For us, it’s easy to understand why this venue has long been a mainstay of Perth’s nightlife scene. As one of Perth’s tiny rooftop bars, they’re mainly known for their magnificent outside seating.
Their staff can also mix up a traditional drink or let you pick from the daily cocktail board. The beverage options are constantly changing too, so we believe there’s always something new to try.
It’s also fantastic for us that they offer drink samples to potential customers. This way, you’ll be sure to indulge yourself with only the beverages you actually like.
Just keep in mind that despite offering a wide variety of cocktails, they only have a limited number of beers on tap.
They have burgers to satisfy your hunger too – we know it can be hard for some people to drink on an empty stomach.
The Flipside Burgers, Vice Burger Deluxe, Frita Burger, and Aji Chicken are some of their other well-known meals. They provide loaded fries and their popular chicken taco as sides too.
More than that, we love that they’re concerned about the dietary requirements of their clients. To be inclusive, they provide dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
Finally, we think live music is the Mechanics Institute’s other attraction. The facility showcases a mix of local and international artists, including electronic music, jazz, and indie rock.
You may also stay past midnight. We think there’s no rush to leave early because the venue still has DJs spinning even after the live music has ended.
Friendly tip: Wear a jacket or cardigan because this location can get chilly! Once you’re comfortable, you can enjoy this cosy bar with terrific drinks and sing-along music tracks. |

OPENING HOURS | Sunday – Thursday: 5:00 PM – 11:45 PM, Friday – Saturday: 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM |
Sneaky Tony’s is a must-visit if you’re seeking a unique, quirky pub in Perth. It’s a dimly lit prohibition rum bar located in Chinatown, Northbridge.
Based on its name, this bar is mainly known for its secret location. Travel tip: Before visiting, we suggest first checking their social media pages for the password.
Of course, we love that Sneaky Tony’s charm lies in its air of secrecy and exclusivity. It’s the ideal location to show your friends your familiarity with Perth’s secret attractions.
One visitor even described how they had to find a steel door that was encircled by graffiti, push the buzzer, wait for it to click, and then push to enter.
And once you’re inside, we believe you’ll find a darkly lit space with a vintage vibe.
The bartenders dress in classic vests and bow ties, and the walls are covered with old photographs and artefacts. We think the drink selection is also excellent.
Friendly tip: Sample a few of Tony’s inventive and delectable drinks! If you’re unsure of what to order, the bartenders are more than happy to provide their recommendations. |
The Bird

OPENING HOURS | Monday – Saturday: 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM, Sunday: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM |
The Bird is one of Perth’s hippest nightclubs and is perfect for conversationalists, performers, dancers, and drinkers alike. They’re conveniently located close to the train station as well.
For us, they provide more than just a bar – they also have an artsy live music venue with exposed brick walls.
We think their environment is good for couples, young people and hipsters, travellers, workers after work, and employees. For one, many people can listen to various types of music, especially indie music.
Their wide variety of alcoholic beverages is divided into the following categories: Ginger Beer, Bubbles, White, Pink & Orange, Red, Cocktails, On Tap, Ale & Lager, Dark.
Their meal options are also large and filling, in our opinion. Cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, shaker fries, buffalo-fried cauliflower, and buttermilk chicken wings are among the items offered.
If this also bothers you, just be cautious of backyard passive smokers because they frequently gather at the rear. Later in the evening, the venue fills up, and there are lengthy queues at the bar.
Friendly tip: Unfortunately, The Bird doesn’t accept cash. So, we recommend getting ready to pay online to save you some time. |
Jazz Cellar

OPENING HOURS | Friday: 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM |
The Bird is a great option if you’re searching for a lively, laid-back bar in Perth. This well-known location is in the centre of Northbridge and is a favourite with both locals and tourists.
We’re drawn to their strange red phone box entrance right away. For us, this is a unique, compact entrance to a vibrant atmosphere (a little like Narnia!).
As one of Perth’s most famous vintage underground clubs, we believe you can travel back in time and have a fantastic experience here.
Visitors can come and relive the spirit of the 1920s and 1930s. So if you’re feeling nostalgic, you’re welcome to explore this place.
But since Jazz Cellar doesn’t sell food or drink like other clubs do, we’re aware that this is an important factor for you to consider as well.
Yet, they employ a Bring Your Own (BYO) alcohol policy. You’re free to bring your own bottle of wine or beer, which we feel is a great way to cut costs and personalise your night out.
Friendly tip: You must pay cash to reserve tickets on the night of the event or any Friday prior to it. To be safe, we advise making reservations 2 weeks in advance. |
Mustang Bar

OPENING HOURS | Tuesday: 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM, Wednesday & Thursday: 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM, Friday & Saturday: 5:00 PM – 3:00 AM |
If you want to watch games in a comfortable sports bar atmosphere, we feel Mustang Bar could be ideal for you.
For us, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to the Wild West as soon as you enter. The bar seems to have a joyful and whimsical vibe thanks to the cowboy hats, old posters, and saloon doors decorating it.
We also like that they provide a large selection of alcoholic beverages on their menu in addition to serving American food like burgers and fries.
For us, the daily live band concerts are one of its notable characteristics too. This can get you pumped up to watch your beloved team while a live band plays some melodies, especially during stressful game situations.
They also have 11 big TVs distributed around their pub since they are dedicated to giving their customers high-quality sports viewing!
With all of these TVs scattered throughout the room, we believe you won’t have any trouble viewing a game regardless of where you are situated.
Friendly tip: Don’t forget to ride the bull (a mechanical one)! This can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you, though we know this kind of thrill may not be for everyone. |

Another option for starry-night joy is the rooftop bar at QT Hotels and Resorts. On the 18th story, we believe the bar provides sweeping views of the city.
We think the sights are reason enough to go, whether you’re there for a late-night drink or a beverage at sunset.
The bar itself has a stunning design with chic, contemporary furnishings. There are many inviting nooks and inviting seating spots, so we feel you can unwind and take in the ambience.
Additionally, this location can entertain a variety of groups. We think the setting is ideal for high-life mixing and shaking cocktails for both residents and tourists.
They serve great wine and bar snacks under the moonlight too. We thought the cheese plate, beef burger, and natural oysters on their menu were the most intriguing and deserving of a try.
Their flavour-infused cocktails and delicious rooftop spritzes can also steal the show. They offer a wide variety of wines, beers, gins, and other beverages, so there are lots to try.
Friendly tip: Despite the fact that QT’s rooftop is open on holidays, be aware that there’s a 15% surcharge during these days. It’s best to bring extra cash to avoid any hassle. |
The Palace Arcade

Did you play a lot of arcade games as a kid? Then, get ready to feel nostalgia with The Palace Arcade.
They offer authentic arcade machines from the 1980s and 1990s. We believe they’re perfect if you’re searching for something fun and unique.
Travel tip: You may play all of the arcade games at The Palace Arcade, so make sure to bring enough quarters or dollar coins to go around with.
There are a lot of craft drinks and beers to choose from as well. Along with a wide variety of pizza (including Pepperoni, Hawaiian, Mediterranean, and Slice of the Month), they also offer chicken tenders, wings, fries, and salads.
Additionally, customers can reserve events at their three key Perth locations: Northbridge, Victoria Park, and Fremantle.
Just be aware that some of the pub’s machines can be broken or in need of repair. We advise checking out the games before you play to avoid wasting money on your arcade card.
Friendly tip: Do you plan to take the nightlife experience home? They provide food delivery too! Clients can choose whether to make an order now or later. |
