The 5 Best Muay Thai Gyms in Perth to Train Like a Fighter

Class schedules and flexibility: We favoured gyms with plenty of class times, especially options that suit early birds, shift workers, and packed diaries.

Coaching experience and authenticity: We looked for trainers with genuine fight or coaching experience, not just someone good at holding pads.

Beginner accessibility: Newbies need a softer landing, so dedicated beginner classes and trial sessions earned extra points.

Facility setup and equipment: We checked for enough room, solid equipment, and a setup that doesn’t feel like an obstacle course.

Value and membership options: We rated gyms higher for fair pricing, casual passes, and flexible memberships that won’t lock you in unnecessarily.

I’ve already got the security systems sorted at home, but I reckon being physically prepared is a smart backup plan. Finding the best Muay Thai gym in Perth felt like the next logical step.

I wanted somewhere that’d sharpen my reflexes without chucking beginners straight into the deep end. Bonus points if the training was tougher than my usual gym routine and a bit more exciting than another treadmill session.

Muay Thai ticks plenty of boxes, from fitness and strength to practical self-defence skills. So I looked for Perth gyms with solid coaching, flexible classes, and a crew you’d actually enjoy sweating alongside.

How much does learning Muay Thai cost in Perth?

Muay Thai in Perth usually costs $35 to $60 per week for unlimited training. Casual classes are generally $13 to $30 each.

Limited passes for one to three classes a week tend to cost $37 to $52 weekly. Fly-in fly-out rates can sit around $30 to $32 per week.

Paying upfront for three to six months usually costs $500 to $1,260. Some gyms also charge a $49 to $220 joining fee.

1. M1FC Mixed Martial Arts

Website

Address: Unit 5B, 443 Scarborough Beach Rd, Osborne Park

Contact: 0422 109 225

Hours: Monday-Friday, 6 AM – 9 PM | Saturday, 8 AM – 2 PM

M1FC Mixed Martial Arts is a handy pick if your week is already doing its best impression of organised chaos. Muay Thai runs throughout the working week, so squeezing in a session feels a lot more realistic.

I also like that its all-access membership covers other disciplines, including boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. There’s no lock-in contract either, which makes trying something new feel far less intimidating.

Beginners aren’t treated like fresh meat here, with classes designed for different experience levels and a free trial available.

More advanced fighters also get dedicated training options, so there’s room to progress once the basics start clicking.

The main catch is for families bringing younger fighters along. Children’s classes don’t have a casual pay-as-you-go option, so you’ll need to consider a full membership after the trial.

Pros

  • Muay Thai classes run throughout the working week
  • No lock-in contracts
  • All-access membership includes boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu
  • Free trial available for newcomers
  • Suitable for beginners and more experienced fighters

Cons

  • No casual pay-as-you-go option for children’s classes/kids need a full membership after the trial period

This place has it all

Mach 1 is an awesome gym; the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The classes are suitable for all levels of fitness/skill. I train all year round and love it. Boxing, MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai- this place has it all. The 6 am boxing class is perfect in summer. Give it a try, it’s a lot of fun.

Great atmosphere and really fun

As a teenage girl, it seemed a bit intimidating at first, but as soon as you go in, everyone is very welcoming and helpful. Joined the Muay Thai class with a friend and am enjoying it. Great atmosphere and really fun, the most I’ve ever enjoyed exercising.

2. Phon’s Muay Thai Centre

Website

Address: 1 Edith Street, Northbridge

Contact: (08) 9227 5296

Hours: Varying by class

Phon’s Muay Thai Centre has been around since 1989, so there’s plenty of old-school credibility behind those pads. The training leans into traditional Muay Thai rather than feeling like another cardio class with gloves.

I also like the structured Khan grading system, which gives you something concrete to work towards. Many group sessions run for around 90 minutes, giving you enough time to actually learn instead of just survive.

Newcomers get two free group-class trials, which is handy if you want to test the waters before committing. It’s a good way to see whether the coaching style and pace suit you.

The main drawback is the timetable, particularly on Fridays. There’s no regular coached group Muay Thai class that day, so flexibility isn’t quite as strong as at some Perth gyms.

Pros

  • Established Muay Thai centre operating since 1989
  • Traditional training with a structured Khan grading system
  • Many group sessions run for around 90 minutes
  • Two free group-class trials for newcomers
  • Strong focus on technique and progression

Cons

  • No regular coached group Muay Thai class on Fridays
  • Timetable may be less flexible than some Perth competitors

An extraordinary place

If you want an authentic coach who is interested in your growth as a Muay Thai practitioner, then you don’t need to look any further than Phon’s Gym in Northbridge – an extraordinary place. Ajahn Phon is the Cus D’Amato of Muay Thai in Australia.

Renowned for his Muay Thai training and being respected by all nationalities

Went to see Phon’s Thai Boxing Gym, was a good place. One thing I noticed is its authentic feeling and decor of original Thai-style kickboxing. Phon himself is renowned for his Muay Thai training and being respected by all nationalities.

3. Ora Belmont

Website

Address: 96 Belmont Avenue

Contact: 0411 341 889

Hours: Monday-Thursday, noon – 7 PM | Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM | Alternating Saturdays, 9 AM – noon (call to pre-book)

Ora Belmont is a handy option if you want Muay Thai without giving up your regular strength training routine. The 1,400-square-metre facility packs in lifting platforms, racks, a boxing ring, and plenty of room to work up a sweat.

The coaching team also brings solid competitive experience, while classes cater to everyone from first-timers to seasoned fighters.

Kids get their own sessions too, with confidence and anti-bullying skills worked into the programme.

You can try a once-off Muay Thai class for $25 before committing, which takes some sting out of the decision. Recovery extras like the infrared sauna are available as well (though it’s a separately booked service).

The catch is that Muay Thai membership doesn’t include 24/7 gym access. There’s also a minimum term and four weeks’ paid notice required for cancellation.

Pros

  • 1,400-square-metre facility with extensive training equipment
  • Muay Thai classes suit beginners through to experienced fighters
  • Coaches have competitive and championship experience
  • Dedicated kids’ classes include confidence and anti-bullying skills
  • $25 once-off trial class available

Cons

  • Muay Thai membership doesn’t include 24/7 gym access
  • Minimum membership term applies
  • Cancellation requires four weeks’ paid notice
  • Infrared sauna is an extra rather than part of standard Muay Thai access

Muay Thai classes are fantastic for all ability levels

Great gym with plenty of equipment. Muay thai classes are fantastic for all ability levels. The owners are very accommodating and are on hand to answer any queries you may have. 24/7 access and isn’t too busy, so you can always use the equipment you want.

Amazing selection of equipment, always clean, fantastic staff & great members

Best gym I’ve been to! Amazing selection of equipment, always clean, fantastic staff & great members. Shane’s Muay Thai classes are an awesome addition to your workouts! Also a great place to complete your Cert III or IV in Fitness.

4. Guardians Gym

Website

Address: 72 Brown Street

Contact: 0432 398 024

Hours: Monday-Tuesday, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM | Thursday, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM (Muay Thai classes)

Guardians Gym makes starting Muay Thai feel a lot less like being thrown into the deep end. Their Monday beginner class gives newcomers room to learn the basics before mixing it up with more experienced fighters.

I also like the $99 four-week unlimited intro pass, which lets you sample Muay Thai, judo, wrestling, boxing, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. For anyone who gets bored doing the same workout, that’s plenty of variety under one roof.

The East Perth location is handy for anyone wanting an after-work session without trekking across town. Tuesday caters to all levels, while Thursday shifts towards drilling and sparring.

The downside is the limited Muay Thai timetable, with only three evening sessions currently listed each week. If your roster is unpredictable, that narrow schedule could make regular training tricky.

Pros

  • Dedicated beginner Muay Thai class
  • $99 four-week unlimited introductory pass
  • Access to Muay Thai, judo, wrestling, boxing, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu
  • Handy East Perth location
  • All-levels and drilling sessions available

Cons

  • Only three Muay Thai sessions currently listed each week
  • All Muay Thai sessions are in the evening

All the trainers are polite, kind and experienced

Very friendly gym. Really nice people, good atmosphere, literally no dramas. All the trainers are polite, kind and experienced. I’m training both Muay Thai and Jiujitsu and loving it. I train 4 times a week, but pretty good deal with the membership.

Awesome gym that is welcoming and caters to all skill levels

Awesome gym that is welcoming and caters to all skill levels, from newbies to advanced. I’ve been doing Muay Thai for roughly 4 weeks and have been loving every session. Coach Huey teaches some dope elbows as well

5. Scrappy MMA & Fitness

scrappy-mma-fitness-logo

Website

Address: 10 Gympie Way, Willetton

Contact: 0468 098 363

Hours: Timetable varies

Scrappy MMA & Fitness has some serious fight pedigree, with a coaching team linked to Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena.

That sounds intimidating, but beginner Muay Thai runs four days a week, so newcomers aren’t left dodging metaphorical elbows.

Your first class is free, and you don’t need your own gear to give it a crack. I also like the variety, with boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, and strength training all available under one roof.

The $60 weekly unlimited membership is handy if you plan to train often, and memberships can be paused without extra fees. Open-gym access also gives keen lifters another excuse to stick around.

The catch is the eight-week minimum membership term. Some advanced fight-team sessions are invite-only too, so you can’t wander straight into elite training on day one.

Pros

  • Beginner Muay Thai classes run four days a week
  • Free first class for newcomers
  • No gear needed for the first session
  • $60 weekly unlimited membership
  • Cross-training includes boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, and strength work
  • Memberships can be paused without extra fees

Cons

  • Eight-week minimum membership term
  • Some advanced fight-team sessions are invite-only

Suitable for all ages and levels. Great timetable

Quality coaches, training & fighters here at Scrappy MMA. Suitable for all ages and levels. Great timetable which includes MMA, Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, strength & conditioning, kids & ladies only classes. You won’t find a better mixed martial arts gym in the surrounding areas, or Perth for that matter.

The gym has a great family vibe

I have been training at Scrappy MMA for 2 years; the gym has a great family vibe. I train there with my son; the coaches put in as much as you give. They have helped sharpen my skills and given my son the perfect foundation in different principles to either compete at a high level or be able to defend himself in everyday life. It is refreshing to train at a gym where you are not just a number; the coaches will support and guide you with whatever avenue you choose to take.
