Stalls to Check

Porta Pizza

From portapizzawa

True to its Italian roots, Porta Pizza rolls out wood-fired slices the way Neapolitans intended—thin, aromatic, and savoury-sweet. That has been the case since 2011, which is why I never leave the market without having some of their classic margherita or pepperoni.

Even my teammates on a plant-based diet rock up at the stall. Their earthy, subtly creamy vegetarian pizza is quite a hit, attracting folks with its medley of mozzarella and mushrooms.

For those with sweeter cravings, there’s the dessert pizza. Sure, a few Italians might raise their eyebrows, but can you say no to a calzone with Nutella and banana cuts?

The Treat Truck

From thetreattruckwa

The Treat Truck is the first of its kind in Perth. By ‘kind,’ we mean a convenient food truck for pups!

So, what do they sling? Preservative-free and locally sourced treats that a certified canine nutritionist prepares. A few of the fastest sellers are the chicken necks, beef lungs, and apple pie doughnuts.

The best part is they cover most dietary needs, thanks in part to the novel proteins in their product, including those taken from crocs and emus!

Cactus Nation

From cactusnationau

My flat has been smelling class lately, and that’s because I found Cactus Nation’s stall.

Their catalogue of diffusers and candles is nature-centred, perfect if you’re shopping for fruity and flowery fragrances, such as a blend of grapefruit and lime or a pomegranate mixed with geranium.

The Bergamot & Banksia Candle remains my favourite, though. Its crisp woody base introduced the forest to my space, with hints of flowers and zesty fruits creeping in.

Canarian Cuisine

From canarian_cuisine

Francisco Pulido, who’s actually from the Canary Islands, leads the Canarian Cuisine team. That means they do flavours boldly, and the recipes are original.

The island-style chorizo is a mouthwatering example. Each piece brings heat, with a strong garlic base and peppery sauce tying the number together.

Another must-have is the paella, especially if you’re a huge fan of bright, hearty, and umami flavours.

Do Donuts

From dodonutsperth

Yeast-raised doughnuts made from scratch and local goods—that’s why we don’t mind binning our diet plans with a box or two from Do Donuts.

Seriously, their rings and filled treats are worthy of cheating your fitness plan. To be fair, their general flavour range is more balanced than sugary, with staples like cinnamon, crème, and dusted custard as the best-sellers.

New Horizons By Leeloo

From new_horizons_by_leeloo

I nabbed my first Mangobeat at New Horizons By Leeloo, and it’s certainly one of my quirkiest scores.

What’s a Mangobeat, you ask? It’s essentially a wooden speaker that doesn’t run on electricity; you only need to place your phone in the slot for it to naturally amplify the audio.

So far, it’s a ripper for calls, with the wood filtering random noises while also preventing echoes. It’s super handy for bush trips or camping as well, especially at places where there’s no power.

Bali in Perth

From baliinperth

With a name like Bali in Perth, you better be rolling out authentic Indonesian bowls. Good thing that’s the case with this stall.

They got me hooked on beef rendang. The dish is slow-cooked in coconut milk, with flaming and savoury nuances fitting the ‘intense’ label.

Nasi campur is a sweeter alternative (and arguably their top-selling item). Most times, it features chicken or beef, cooked with peanut sauce, sambal, and aromatics such as ginger and lime leaves.

Athena Souvlaki

From athenasouvlak

The word ‘souvlaki’ brings to mind images of smoky, tenderised meat, warm pita, and fresh greens—basically what Athena serves up. Their flavours are bold, be it the chicken, lamb, or pork.

It’s the chicken one that magnetises foodies, though, including us. The profile is quite vibrant, pretty much what you’d expect in a dish marinated in lemon and infused with oregano.

Tikka Tango

From tikkatango

Tikka Tango pioneered the ‘paratha taco’ craze. If you haven’t indulged in it yet, the Indian-Mex snack wraps curried lamb, paneer (non-melting cheese), and chicken tikka in buttery paratha, an Indian flatbread.

Best believe they load it with the good stuff! Pickled vegetables are the regular add-ons, followed by dressings made of yoghurt or garlic.

What’s the most ordered? That’d be the chicken version. Smoky is its overall character, rounded out by tangy sun-dried tomatoes and sweet balsamic.

Crush Juice Van

From crushjuicevan

Grabbing a sip or two at Crush Juice Van just makes sense after a foodie haul. Their fruit juices, crushes, milkshakes, and smoothies will freshen things up.

Some nibbles are on sale, too. Last time we popped by, there were bite-sized choc balls and strawberries.

El Aleman Loco

From el_aleman_loco

Papas locas for cheat days are what El Aleman Loco does best. That’s loaded fries for the non-Spanish-speaking folks out there.

The ‘loaded’ bit truly means loaded here, as they top the crisps with a generous amount of cheese and bacon (or Bratwurst if you take the German box), before blowtorching the entire thing.

Vegetarians and vegans can indulge, too. There’s a plant-based option featuring tofu, vegan cheese, and a solid hit of tomato-chipotle drizzle.

Unicone

From unicone.softserve

Like we’d leave out Unicone. Can you trust anyone who turns down soft-serve ice cream?

Selection-wise, it’s mostly the classics, such as vanilla, chocolate, and cookies ‘n cream, all dressed in rainbow sprinkles or a choco or strawberry glaze. Fruity ice treats are on offer, too.

Street + Sweet Food Lab

From streetsweetfoodlabperth

Most of us are suckers for Street + Sweet Food Lab’s Asian street grub. The food truck captured the continent’s tastes, especially the umami and fiery nuances.

A bite of their deep-fried tentacles will prove that. From what I savoured the last time, the ocean’s brine and the octopus’ natural sweetness course through each piece.

They also go all-out on those Japanese fries, which go hand in hand with some fried chicken or squid. Entirely covering the number with bonito flakes, Japanese mayo, and okonomiyaki sauce is the chef’s kiss.

Fish Boss

From fishbossperth

They’re not called Fish Boss for nothing. This stop is a fish and chips institution, flexing local seafood sourced by MSC-certified fishermen.

You can’t just skip on those fish tacos! It’s a heavier, chipotle-coated plate that’s stacked with spicy battered fish, fried beans, smoky corn puree, and bold shallots.

The best bit is the reasonable prices. Their staples (chips, tacos, and burgers) fall between $12 and $18 per serving.

General Public Food Co

From generalpublicperth

We kicked off with pizza and also wrapped up with pizza—only this time, the spotlight is on General Public Food Co.

This approachable joint is especially loved for its sourdough slices. That means the offerings, such as margherita and prosciutto, are tangier and chewier than your regular pizza.

If I had to pick a favourite, the brisket takes the cake. Mozzarella smothers its sourdough base while jalapenos and sour cream give the sweet-savoury brisket some extra punch.
