A Guide to the Bell Tower in Perth for History Buffs, Families, and Lovebirds

If a giant musical instrument as a tourist attraction sounds off-key to you, then you’ve clearly never heard the high notes at Perth’s Bell Tower. Seriously, this 82.5-meter-high structure is one of our city’s most extraordinary hits.

Inside, you’ll discover historic chimers like the ANZAC Centenary Bell, Australia’s largest swinging bell commemorating ANZAC heroes. Also, beyond the chimes, there’s something for everyone, from antique collectors to tiny tots and even lovebirds.

With our countless visits to the spot, we have the inside scoop on what to see and do here!

Learn the history of the ANZAC Bell

Prices:

  • Concession – $32 per person
  • Family (2 adults and 2 children) – $99

Duration: 60 mins

The 6,500 ANZAC Bell is one of The Bell Tower’s biggest draws—figuratively and literally. Weighing in at a hefty 6,500 kg, this attraction is a heavyweight, and it isn’t just here for the short ring—it’s built to last up to 500 years.

Beyond its impressive mass, this bell also carries the weight of history, serving as a lasting tribute to the tales of brave servicemen and women of Australia and New Zealand—stories the guides will share and explain with passion.

What we dig most, however, is that it’s not just a look-but-don’t-touch affair. For instance, guests can score an ANZAC bell medallion, see chiming in action, hear a WWI song from the coin-operated carillon, and get a bird’s-eye view from the Observation Deck.

We swear by the Bell Tower Experience Tour. It’s a full package, featuring panoramic views of Perth, the Swan River, and an impressive collection of bells and other artifacts from diverse cultures.

As part of the experience, you’ll also be guided to the bell-ringing chamber, where live performances by ringers on Thursdays or Sundays take place. A Bell Chiming Certificate even awaits those who finish the tour.

Just make it a point to show up about 10 minutes before the tour’s 11 am or 1:30 pm kickoff. And remember, this one is so popular that booking early is a must.

If you want a hands-on dive into the ancient art of change ringing, the Bell Ringing Tour & Workshop is the one you should buy a ticket for.

This tour not only lets you interact with The Bell Tower Ringers (the resident band) but also offers a chance to witness the ANZAC Bell’s midday chime, soak views from the deck, and check out the 1725 bells from Buckingham Palace’s Saint Martin in the Fields church.

The main event, though, is the behind-the-scenes tour of the bells and bell chamber, featuring an impressive bell-ringing demo and the fascinating art of change ringing, where bells are rung in an ever-changing, harmonious sequence.

Let your kids toll the chimes

Think bell-ringing at the tower is just for the grown-ups? Think again. Tiny tots can also create their musical magic with the Bell Tower Chiming Experience kiddo-version.

This tour is tailored for kids aged 5 to 11, but parents can tag along and observe at no extra cost. We did this on our last visit, and our mini-mes had a blast ringing bells and listening to the non-robotic history lessons.

Waiting for their turn to ring the bell can be a real test of patience, though, especially on weekends. We suggest grabbing an activity sheet to keep your little ones entertained as they line up.

Lock your love by joining the Romance Package for Two

From thebelltowerperth

Price: $70 (2 adults)

Duration: 20 mins

The Bell Tower’s Romance Package for Two takes love to new heights, or should we say “locks” it in forever.

Much like the other tours, this one flaunts stunning vistas from the Observation Deck and an engaging Bell Chiming Experience with an expert guide. The unique touch? You and your boo get to create personalized and engraved love locks before the tour starts.

Priced at $35, the said love locks are a must-purchase for lovebirds. What to do with them depends on you, but most couples, including some of our team members, like to lock them onto a structure or let them drift away in the Swan River.

Say your vows

From thebelltowerperth

The Bell Tower can be a wedding venue too! This place has probably hosted more weddings than a hilltop garden.

It offers a spellbinding backdrop for nuptials, with its grand architecture, historic bells, and sweeping views of the city. Combine that with well-groomed lawns, charming gardens, and the shimmering Swan River, and it’s clear why it’s a top choice for couples.
