Never get lost in translation with the best language tutors in Perth!
I tried teaching myself Japanese back in uni (cheers to anime for the inspo). That said, the attempt flopped, as I relied solely on Duolingo lessons and YouTube videos.
Looking back now, I should’ve just forked out for a proper language tutor, especially a native speaker with the proper teaching credentials. Maybe I wouldn’t be stuck watching the dubbed version of One Piece (don’t come for me).
If you’re looking for one, you don’t have to read hundreds of online reviews. We rounded up Perth’s most proficient language coaches, primarily in Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and English for all levels and skills, including children with Specific Learning Disorders.

The French, Italian, and Spanish learners we had linked with pointed us to MultiCultural Centre. Seeing that all tutors there are native speakers trained to deliver curriculum-based lessons, we weren’t surprised.
A star attribute is their low-pressure but structured approach, applied to all classes, including the ATAR ones taken by high school learners studying for an exam.
What’s more, we didn’t receive any complaints about the tutors, character-wise. Confessed slow learners mentioned that the instructors were often patient and encouraging.
Flexibility makes them more impressive. One-on-one (can be taken online or in person), group, corporate, and even one-day classes are all offered.
The one-day classes, however, can get booked up quickly. We’d also love a Sunday option, as other tutors on this list provide that.
On the upside, they provide immersion. The centre regularly hosts social events, like food and movie nights, where you can talk to native speakers and fellow students.
Excellent Teacher
‘I have been learning Spanish at the MLC for a few months and my experience has surpassed my wildest expectations. Nestor is an excellent teacher and extremely patient with students like me who sometimes need extra explanations and help. I look forward to my classes each week and strongly recommend the MultiCultural Language Centre to anybody seeking to learning Spanish. You will be lucky if you score Nestor as your teacher.’

Fun and Engaging
‘I’ve had Nestor as a teacher for a few levels of Spanish now. He’s an amazing teacher who is very patient, kind, and has a genuine passion for teaching Spanish. He has a great teaching style and makes his lessons fun and engaging. Nestor is so warm and welcoming, and takes the time to get to know all of his students. Not only is he a great teacher but a lovely person too!
Everyone I have interacted with at the MultiCultural Language Centre has been so lovely – staff and students included. I have made great friends in my class and I look forward to class every week!
When I first began my lessons the staff were very helpful in helping me find the correct level. The classes are very reasonably priced and thoughtfully planned! I would recommend them to all levels. ❤️🇪🇸’

A few teammates take lessons under German with Jenny, and the feedback, so far, has been positive.
From what we’ve gathered, she makes German accessible even to beginners. That’s likely due to the structured but tailored method she has followed for over 10 years.
Jenny is said to be superbly diligent, too. Say, you mispronounce or misuse a word, corrective feedback will be offered immediately.
For a one-woman operation, there’s quite a good mix of options, like group, one-on-one, exam preparation, and corporate German classes.
The catch is, well, she’s the only tutor. You better not laze off, or someone else will take up your preferred timeslot.
Her rates are also smidge above the standard, but, to be fair, you get full access to online classes. Regular discounts are offered, too.
Lastly, students love her sense of humour—a massive win if you’re stressing over tongue-twisting words and sanity-breaking grammar.
Provides Real Time Insight
‘Jenny has added tremendous value and insight into my German learning process. Her curriculum is easy to follow, and she provides real time insights and positive feedback during the lessons. If you’re serious about beginning or improving your German I definitely recommend utilising her services.’

No Problem Discussing Technical Topics
‘I have been working with Jenny to practice and improve my German for use in business. She has been a fantastic tutor, providing the right balance of encouraging me to speak while giving constructive feedback. She has no problem discussing technical topics and corporate themes. I am happy to recommend her to others with similar needs.’

Run by Miki Omori, a professional narrator and native speaker, iStudyJapanese would’ve been a better choice than the random YouTube videos I binged back then.
For starters, she’s been teaching since 2010 and has worked with over 1,000 students, some of whom stuck around for years to level up. We even bumped into folks who thanked her for helping them pass the JLPT N5.
As for her curriculum, it leans on practicality. You get to pick up the language’s technicalities, learn tips in handling natural conversations, and acquire cultural know-how, including etiquette.
We also like the small group setup. Students can practice with peers, but the class size is small enough for structured, targeted feedback.
The price tag makes sense, too, considering you get access to 500+ short tutorial vids and 200 downloadable resources.
If there’s a hiccup, it’s the limited Wednesday-to-Sunday schedule. Face-to-face classes also cap at six people.
Very Receptive
‘I can’t recommend Miki’s classes highly enough! She provides a fun classroom environment and makes you feel right at ease diving into Japanese! You can feel and see your progress lesson to lesson. Doing the first few levels set me off to a flying start speaking with local people during our current trip to Japan! Everyone we’ve met has been very receptive! I can also read more signs than I ever expected to be able to.
Thanks Miki!’

Very Approachable
‘Miki’s Japanese classes are brilliant and she is one of the most amazing teachers! Her method of teaching is very approachable and she cares personally for each of her students.
Her lessons are fun and well structured, with a balanced learning curve. I really enjoyed the level of interaction in her classroom and how Miki herself was always looking to improve her teaching through discussion and welcoming feedback.
I particularly appreciated how she helped me to be sympathetic to the nuances of Japanese, by relating them back to quirks of my own language that I took for granted.
Our trips to Japan were all the better off for our time spent learning with Miki. Anyone with an interest in learning Japanese or planning a trip to Japan, I couldn’t recommend her classes more highly!’

Alex Green is worth checking out if you want or need to improve your English proficiency.
His structured lesson plans cover the four core skills—reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with an emphasis on real-world usage. The method is then personalised to your needs, goals, and level.
Compared to his peers, his exam preparation classes carry more weight, especially for the IELTS, where he has a score of 9. That grade reflects an expert-level command of the language.
Beyond that, Alex has a leg up in business English. He has a degree in Business Studies—with honours, no less.
He also has integration lessons for newcomers or those planning to relocate to Australia. Technicalities are taught, but it’s the emphasis on culture and Aussie norms that earns this one a mention.
Just remember that his hourly rate isn’t cheap at $90. Waiting for a response might also take a day or two.
High-Quality Teacher
‘Alex is an exceptional English teacher who is helping my daughters improve their writing skills! He always provides the right guidance and engaging brainstorming exercises. Each lesson is thoroughly prepared, and he offers detailed notes for my daughters to review afterward. They absolutely love his classes and wouldn’t want to miss a single minute of these fun and enriching sessions! If you’re looking for a high-quality teacher, Alex is undoubtedly your best choice!’

I Became More Confident
‘I had several online sessions with Alex who helped me overcome my anxiety during interview scenarios. Through practice and his guidance, I became more confident answering questions while living through my fear. He also showed me how to fix my communication errors and articulate my answers with more clarity. If you really want to impress in interviews, Alex has the tools to teach you.’

Since 2013, LALI Services has been backing up children with Specific Learning Disorders, and from what we’ve heard, their model often works. It’s holistic and targeted, as students get tailored academic and emotional support from qualified tutors.
Claire is one of those tutors. Aside from her 20+ years in primary education, she has worked with neurodivergent children, including those with Down Syndrome and dyslexia.
In fact, the parents we talked to acknowledged her expertise. They mentioned huge leaps in their little ones’ reading, writing, and spelling skills, often reflected by improved marks at school.
That said, the centre isn’t available on weekends.
Sessions aren’t the cheapest, either. Prices range from $95 to $110 per hour, and that doesn’t cover the upfront assessment or additional learning materials.
On the bright side, LALI’s assessments are effective, particularly in identifying weaknesses and areas to focus on.
Highly Skilled, Patient, and Encouraging
‘Jennifer has tutored my primary school aged daughter for the last year. I found her highly skilled, patient and encouraging. Care and consideration was given to the individual needs of the child. Parent and teacher input was encouraged and incorporated within the tutoring. Jennifer was adept at regularly assessing strengths and areas of challenge that required further repetition or support.’

Teaches and Guides
‘Helped to transform my 8 year old grandson
Jennifer is a capable, competent individual who has helped to transform my 8 year old grandson. She has all the attributes of a traditional “ old fashioned “ teacher. She teaches and guides. The results are outstanding!’
